You have a proud amd distinguished family tree, sir. Your forebears were special. Highly intelligent, highly responsible, courageous, they thought for themselves and they had empathy.
When I read the name I was like „OOH thooose Yorcks“. It’s old Prussian aristocracy , Ludwig Yorck von Wartenburg was THE prussian face of the napoleonic wars along Blücher (the famous „Yorckscher Marsch“ written by Beethoven was named after him).
Ha, I’ve got a relative by the name of Johann Georg Elser(my grandmother and uncle and cousins are Elser) whom planted the bomb and so it either went off late or hitler left early, there’s a movie, a book, and a statue dedicated to it, he was killed in the concentration camp right before the war ended
Be so proud of your uncle. I often think of that operation Valkyrie. There were decent Germans who did fight against Hitler which was extremely brave given the chances of being killed or worse being tortured were very high
The only reason most participated in Valkyrie was because hitler was losing the war, up to that point most were supporters. Of course the lower in the chain of command you go the less supporters.
My immigrant ancestor from England married a Prussian immigrant (who's maiden name was Yorck) circa 1767 and they settled in Germantown, PA. This guy might be a relative of mine.
Germany was a catholic country and the Vatican aided and abetted Hitler, my Aunt Elfie was in the Orphanage in Germany. Hitler wanted the catholic nuns to close all the Orphanages and work in his factories. The Orphanages were closed and she was sent back to her mother who could not stand her. Not all Germans were Nazies. My Aunt Elfie married my Uncle Masami, who was a Japanese American serving as an Air Traffic Control person . They lived in America 🇺🇸 after the War. Many years later, I was living with my Dad who was suffering from cancer. Aunt Elfie and Uncle Masami came to visit us every week. After months my Aunt Elfie told me her life story. It was meant for us to meet and become close. So she could tell me who the duplicitous Vatican really helped. The pope could have come to The US and told the newspapers (media who was keeping public opinion in AMERICA 🇺🇸 down about getting involved with another WAR) I knew many catholic American families and they were good, kind people. I 'm sure if the pope told the priests to tell the people in cathletic church, the men would have immediately wanted to go to War and save the nuns and children. We would have gone to fight evil before Hawaii had to get attacked by Japan. The Defense Secretary of US moved the American fleet from San Diego to Pearl Harber, Hawaii. The Creator made a way to get America 🇺🇸 in the War to help keep our country and our families safe and to help the Allies fight and bring an end to the War. 🙏 Karen Murao
You bet pal. 🙄 If the vatican "aided and abbetted" the nazis to any degree, it was in the same manner as the jews did. Forcibly. And shirley anyone can see why the church would be extremely cautious and reluctant to get involved in, or advocate for any military action anymore, after the hit they took to their pr from when they did that trying to combat & defend chritendom from the existential threat it faced from Islam in the crusades.
Hitler was a Catholic as well and the Catholic Church celebrated his birthday every year even after his death. The Catholic Church would seem to edge its bets.
Hitler wasn't really a Catholic. He might have been baptized as one, but his actions and beliefs show that he believed otherwise. And only some members of the clergy supported him and would "celebrate" his birthday. Many were against him and plotted against him.
doesn't matter. I identify as a vegetarian. Just bc all i ever eat is chicken, beef, and pork, doesn't make me any less of one. How good or bad I am at it is irrelevant as it's still central to my identity. Just bc all of hitlers policies, and his agenda were distinctly and definitionaly 'anti-christ' and completely contradicted and violated carholic doctrinal beliefs, doesn't mean he wasn't one. He may have simply been worse at catholism than anybody ever, in history.

This guy didn’t do jack. His uncle however
How stunning to be that brave at that time. Simply astonishing.
What an amazing family story! So tragic that your brave and heroic uncle did not live to see the Allied victory. RIP Herr Yoerck.

What a childhood. Became adults too soon and exposed to war horrors on a daily basis. ❤❤ Bless your late Uncle and all of you.❤❤
❤Thank you for your service 🤘🫡🇺🇲❤️👍💯🙏💪
Amen for telling your history! So sorry for your loss.
Wow, there is a great story here - I'd love to hear more.
Do a search on Peter Yorck von Wartenburg.
The promp for the whole story is on the screen.
A Real life story movie.
God Bless your Uncle.

Many of us admire your Uncle and wish that their operation was successful. I’m sorry you lost him to Nazis.
I don’t think many people are thankful given how many people voted for trump in 2016z

Yes, very, very brave men. I don't know whether I would have such courage, even though I would have wanted Hitler dead.
Way to go brother!!!

So, very sad you lost your dad!! A very sad experience! Wish you well❤❤❤😢
Literally the first 5 seconds he says Uncle and you still say Father instead. You should try to actually comprehend the things you see and hear
His Uncle was hanged not his dad.

Sorry for the loss your father.

This is not something unique in every country there are supporters and opposers. We all know history is written 📝 by winners.

"And then we came to America; Port Washington, Long Island..." He meant to say, "then we came to America at Port Montauk, Long Island."
Nope
