    Still didn't get it. +2^18 and -2^18 becomes opposite and then should be eliminated that gives 0 . And only 2^1 should be left. Can Anyone please explain how the answer is 2^18?

      2^19 = 2 x 2^18. So 2^19 - 2^18 = 2^18(2 - 1) = 2^18.

      @@discovermaths I really appreciate your help ,but I still have a confusion. In parentheses (2-1) 2 came from 2^1 but how that 2^18 converted into 1 . I mean how did you take out common factor? Still I have q question that why 2^18 and -2^18 should not be eliminated? Can you refer me to any of your video that shows how to take out common factor of power with the same base?

      @@hasandukanwala2046 2^18 is a common factor of both 2^19 and 2^18. It goes into 2^19 twice, because 2^19 = 2^18 times 2, and goes in 2^18 once, because 2^18 = 2^18 x 1..

    Try 2^4 - 2^2 shows that the answer doesn't always comes out as a single exponent number, the answer for this is 12...

    I notice a pattern in the case of 2^n -2n-1 the answer is 2^n or more specifically 2^n x 1 ( 1 is 1 less than 2)
    in the case of 3^n - 3^n-1, the answer is 3^n-1 x 2
    in the case of 4^n- 4^n-1, the answer is 4^n-1 x 3 . so 4^4- 4^3 should = 64x3 or 192 . 4^4=256 and 4^3=64
    256-64= 192 or 64x3
    I am claiming that in the case of 5^n - 5^n-1 the answer is 5^n-1 x 4. So 5^6 - 5^5 should = 5^5 x 4
    5^5+1 - 5^5 = 5^5 (5-1) =5^5 x 4
    So it is true that 12^6 - 12^5 = 12^5 x 11? (notice 11 is one less than 12). and I just found it is?
    So my theory is P^n - P^n-1 = (P^n-1)(P-1) in which P and n are positive integers .
    so 100^2 - 100^1 should = 100^1 x 99 or 9900. let me check 100^2= 10,000 , 100^1=100 , and 10,000-100=9900

      This only can happen if you are dividing the powers. For example, you have 2^5 - 2^4. 2^5 is 32 and 2^4 is 16, if you divide it you get 16 which is 2^4 and by your logic it would equal 2 because 2^1 is 2.

    I say the answer = 2^18 why?
    because when I do 2^1- 2^0= 2-1= 1 or 2^0 or the subtrahend AND 2^2-2^1= 4-2=2 OR 2^1 or the subtrahend AND 2^3- 2^2 = 8-4 OR 2^2, or the subtrahend All three is just one apart (eg 2^2- 2^1) just like the problem (2^19-2^18
    as 19 is just one less than 18)) and the answer is always the SUBSTRAHEND. So I see a PATTERN and will assume FOR NOW it is true for all. So the answer is 2^18

      the answer is 3^2012 x 2 why? you will notice a pattern the subtrahend x 2 = always the answer so in the case 3^1-3^0 which =2 the subtrahend, 3^0, which =1 is just one-half the result which is '2'. Or you could do : 3^2012 +1 - 3^2012 or 3^2012 (3^1-1) = 3^2012 (2)

    The final answer is incorrect. The last step that says 2 to the 18th power times 1, that 1 has a power of 1. When you multiply numbers of power, you add the powers, therefore, the answer will not be 2 to the 18th power, it'll be 2 to the 18th power plus 1th power, which makes the answer 2 to the 19th power.

      We only add the powers when the bases are the same. Here the bases are 18 and 1, which are different. So no addition will take place. So the answer is 2^18

      2^19 is just 2^18+2^18 so 2^18+2^18-2^18=2^18 you dont even have to know the method to figure that out
