The Long Way Back is a short narrative film that tells the story of the daily struggle of survivor’s guilt, depression, and the contemplation of suicide from a veteran’s perspective. For many veterans, though they may have left the battlefield and returned home, mentally many have not yet completely returned. This film tells the story of one veteran and the path he has chosen on his journey back home, the long way back.
I'm not a combat vet like a lot of you are, saw some action but not like you warriors,but I can say that the transition from 20 plus years behind the gate to walking out and being a memory in seconds was and still is the hardest thing I've had to do. Felt like I walked into trap. Thanks for this. This topic needs to never be silenced.

This vid should be required viewing when registering for the selective service and shown when "demobing." War is hell. All parties need reminded of that. 6 months and 3000 views? Please include this short as a "trailer" in the Range 15 sequels. It is a brilliant piece of work and needs more exposure.

I am at a loss of words I just watched this and I am going to share this for sure.
Many will never know what it feels like. It is strange how those wearing the same colors seem to become more of our brothers than our blood brothers. How hearing screams puts us in a different state of mind immediately, how you not knowingly pull security and are the last one to get in your POV. Good video

Been told you are too quiet , you are a grouch , you are an asshole, you look like you are mad as hell. You hold nothing back . My brother told me this that some staff was describing me like that, I told him fuck'em all. He laughed cause that's what he told them that is what I would say. But my brother told them you don't know him , where he has been and what he has done. If you're Vet he might talk to you if you are a civilian don't ask him he won't talk to you because you will never understand.

I would like to thank you for your service. I've heard stories of how difficult it can be for soldiers to reintegrate into society. I wish I was as strong as you and your brothers in arms. As a chikd and a young adult, I jad dreamt of being a soldier so that I coukd protect those I love from tyranny, but after I graduated high school back last june, my parents forbid me from enlisting and I never did. I don't know if it was because I respected them to much, or If I was afraid of losimg the only people I have in my life, or if I was just to scared to make the transition from civilian to soldier. Either way, you, and those like you, will always be more man than me in every way, shape, and form. Thank you for your service and God rest the fallen.

I felt this video on so many levels. I served in Iraq myself and I know too well what it's like fighting these inner demons on a daily basis. From having a company that I worked for 6 years putting a no tresspass warrant on me after getting medically documented with PTSD, to the nightmares, to feeling the hopelessness to keep going. If anyone is interested I made a couple of videos that are shared on my channel of my time in Iraq OIF III 2004-2005. I made those videos after one of my battles became a major news story about his dying wish.

Both of my grandfather's served in Vietnam and when they pass I'll get tattoos to remember how great they were. I tried joining but health problems disqualified me. I'm now a trucker with an amazing love for the military and the service you guys do. Stay safe.
I have a boyfriend going through the same thing and it’s hard for me to accept things he is going through preferably because I never experienced it but I would like to get him the help he needs’ I tried the website and it possibly maybe the wrong one’ even if talking to someone he needs that’ I respect all veterans for all they have done and what they have to battle when they come home! ❤️
Rocco, you did an amazing job with this. I am a civilian, but I cannot express the gratitude, love, and respect I have for our veterans and men and women in uniform. I do not offer pity for what you have gone through as I know that is neither what you want or need, but instead I offer support and respect. Thank you for all you have done, and all you have had the determination and strength not to do. We need you here, we need you to teach the next generation, we need you to tell what the news doesn't. I like to believe that there are many civilians such as me, who will bend over backwards to support veterans.
View powerful message sir vets like you guys are a beacon to those of us that are struggling as we have no idea where to turn and who to believe anymore. The only thing that keep us going is the mission and keeping our heads above water but to see that we still have that brotherhood to turn to helps out in ways that no pill will ever touch. To you and all my brothers and sisters I say never give in to that dark space in your hides mind but look towards the light of the day and ensure that you keep driving onward and forward until the battle is done.
