The train noises in the background almost immediately afterwards. The city keeps on moving, the world keeps turning, Stringer’s death means nothing. Clever.
Also, having just watched this episode with a friend who was watching for the first time, I was floored to realize the train air horn noise is in the very first cold open scene with these two and is also in the scene with Avon and Stringer having their last, emotional talk. David Simon doesn’t do that by accident, but I’m still trying to think about the symbolism…
The show is rife with symbolisms and details that foreshadows important events. Every scene is intentional. This what makes The Wire rewatchable and ages like fine wine. I love going to TH-cam to read comments on The Wire scenes. Sometimes people dig really deep, even more than what the director intended and that is also intentional. Its a technique used by many directors, I forgot what its called but its meant for the viewer's interpretations, like the train in this scene running in the background, this is intentional but could be no actual meaning other than the director leaving it to the viewers to think about and ponder.)
Stringers death meant everything. It was the fall of one of the cornerstones of the Barksdale crew; orchestrated by Avon himself. The Barksdale boys were no more after this
I love the line "and we didn't have to torture his ass neither." Because Omar is letting Stringer know that this all comes back around to Brandon's death.
@@damonmcdougal2567 In season 1, Avon's pit crew in the projects keeps getting jacked by Omar's stick up crew, whom Brandon was apart of and was Omar's boyfriend. Stringer gets the drop on Brandon one day and sends his muscle to kidnap and torture Brandon about Omar's whereabouts. When he doesn't give Omar up, they kill him and mutilate him for display. That's why Omar says "didn't have to torture his ass neither" not "coach."
I simply loved Omar's facial expression when that guy crawled away, crying. It shows once again how Omar respects his code at the fullest, and never put the gun to nobody who wasn't in the game. Best TV series ever.
That guy was a crook, so shooting him doesn't violate the code. Omar just spared him because Omar didn't know that guy was a thief and that guy wasn't an immediate threat like the bodyguard.
Jon Kline Yeah. The cops should've waited until Stringer got Clay Davis killed before intending to arrest Stringer. Stringer was living on borrowed time, so he should've just dropped Clay Davis himself.
I loved how Stringer and Avon gave each other up. I thought it was amazing how each one gave up the other to the worlds that they were a part of. Stringer wanted to be a businessman so he gave up Avon to the cops and the world he was so desperate to join. Avon gave up his boy to the streets so he could continue thriving living the gangster lifestyle. Truly awesome writing.
Alpha Blaq no he ordered the hit on stringer because brother mozune didn't give him a choice Avon had to either give up stinger's life or lose everything Avon worked for
In avon defense he tried to pay for stringers life...he didnt flat out say go do it...he was willing to pay for it...that says a lot knowing he the reason deangelo got killed
Honestly, this scene stayed with me because of Brother Mouzone's savage comment to Omar about going through the front being a first. And also, I can never forget Idris's acting in his last moments especially when Omar tells him, "Your boy gave you up." He has the look of a man who has come to the realization that everything is over, his friendship with avon, his business, and most of all, his life.
Omar & Mouzone killing Bell = Bishops take Queen. We all know the reoccurring chess themes in the series. Mouzone and Little can easily be identified as the most "moral" of the characters (with respect to the game), making them metaphorically Bishops. Notice how they trap and "take" Bell diagonally, as only a Bishop can, Forget gender, Bell is the queen b/c he gets taken; Avon, although checked several times (By Marlo, the Police, etc) always escapes.
Omar is always more like a Knight to me. Wildcard, unorthodox, unpredictable - his method, actions and gender all yield those same attributes. Even his hairstyle looks like a Knight. Mouzone is the Bishop literally with his religious outlook, clean cut appearance and manner.
Nigga you should've taken on Omar man. Sure Stringer set you up but Omar but a cap in you and you just let him get away with that? Damn nigga you weak.
***** Nigga that's not understanding the game that's being weak. You after both whoever wanted you dead and whoever pulled the trigger. Now not only is Brother's image ruined as the guy that got owned by Omar, thus increasing the amount of people that go after him and decreasing the amount of people that fear and respect him, if that kid hadn't whacked Omar, who was to say that Omar wouldn't go after Brother again? Even worse, Brother got owned by the guy that got owned by a kid. Nice image.
***** Guess that's why I feel so much pity for you. A try-hard keyboard warrior that can only resort to throw the same insults that apply to him after getting owned! Don't bother replying, you're not worth my time anymore so you're now bloooooooooooooooocked!
The look on Stringer's face at 2:00 and afterwards when he slowly realizes that it was Avon who gave him up. From anger to confusion to sadness to resignation all in about 15 seconds with out saying a word. Priceless. Dude is a tremendously talented actor
"Queen taken by two Bishops" Remember in season 1 when D'angelo taught Bodie and Wallace chess, and Wallace said the queen "reminded him of Stringer"? 2:45 Notice how they approached Stringer's body after cornering and "taking" him...diagonally.
Ive watched the wire at least ten times straight through and ive heard that line but i always took it literally. wow...the way they wrote mouzoune's dry humor and the way he played it are unreal. he's a scene stealer for sure. good catch.
t3rr3nc388 OMG!!! I just finished watching season 3 literally about an hour ago and I didn't get what that meant when Brother Mouzone said that. Good job & Thanks!
I ain't involved... After him being thoroughly involved in having people killed. He was definitely involved, but thought he was somehow above it all. He got what was coming to him.
It looks a bit like Omar respects him saying that too from his facial expressions. Realised he'd lost the game and was accepting the outcome with some shred of dignity left.
Honestly, Mouzone wasn't even involved in much action on the show. It was just his persona that made you believe he was the baddest man in the city. Incredible work by the actor who portrayed him.
Stringer didn't feel any conscience ordering hits on Wallace or even fucking D. He shouldn't have been surprised when the killers came for him and didn't care about anything except the mission. Everything he did was for money but you can't buy your way out of the black market situation (ie, criminals like Omar from "below," and established hitmen like Mouzone from "above," who can do what they want cause you will NEVER reach their level). Mouzone must have done some mental gymnastics to be "at peace with his god."
Wermhats Wormhat I'm not an expert on Islam, and I also realize that different religions have different views on things (I'm not one of those idiots that thinks "all religions just teach "be good" as if it is obvious what good is). But never the less it seems like, murder for money, particularly for the sake of drug deals, is not what most religions, would teach. Plus Omar is an infidel, but Mouzone lets him live - sure he needs him for a while, but it's clear he respects him. I suspect Mouzone is a bit of an infidel himself, and good for him for that. If he totally believed, he'd still be part of NOI. Mouzone has his own morality and THAT is what he's at peace with.
Wermhats Womhat is a classic bigot, no need to request further explanation because he's obviously here just to spread his pathetic-muslim-hating spiel, The Quran doesn't say you should go on killing whoever you want because they're infidel, in fact what Mouzone does as a job has no relation to the Islamic religion whatsoever.
now hold up the hit on wallace was justified due to wallace snitching to the police and d sold out bay to the police before stringer ordered the hit on him
This scene was stunningly good, the whole episode, actually. When Brother Mozourne visited Avon at the barber shop, he questioned why Stringer tried to kill him through Omar. Avon took responsibility for Stringer's actions & offered him money, but Mozourne reminded him that Avon is who he is because of name & reputation, not money. That scene right there made Avon give up Stringer to Mozourne & Omar. Amazingly scripted! This show deserves more recognition and awards!
After all the shit that Stringer did, the scene where he is frantically running through the apartment complex trying to escape really made me feel sorry for him. The way he was running really got through that he was terrified. When he saw all his escapes blocked and he became even more frantic, I felt even worse. Where he is gunned down was a very powerful scene- a big man like Stringer, gunned down like a dog and everything he had gone in an instant. He was a bad man, but still human..
Mkc N It's better to end your life then it is to live with a fucked up leg/back? Yeah, that's why so many people in the streets die so young.. dumbasses don't know what your losing.
Mouzone had a gun pointed at him. If he tried to turn tail and jump he probably would have been shot in the back, and coupled with the injuries he''d suffer from the fall, the chances of him surviving would be vanishingly small. Plus he didn't know at that point for certain that he couldn't reason with his aggressors.
brother mouzone was only in the wire for 7 episodes. 7, in total. yet he is one of the most legendary in the entire show. that's how good the writing on this show was.
It was symbolic of his life that he was running around in one of his real estate projects, trying to be legitimate, be he gets hunted down by the people from the game. It was like he was running from the game, trying to be legitimate, but he was still yoked to it.
Brother Mouzone told Omar that his boy didn't give him up easily. Here Omar tells Stringer that his boy gave him up, and they didn't have to torture his ass either. Love the details this show has.
Ghost wanted out and go legit and positive - gets murdered. Stringer wants out the game and to go legit... gets taken out. The streets are cruel. No one is allowed to shed the evil coat of the game without blood... thing is... its always yours.
Notice Brother, not really aiming, shot bell 3 times in the heart as Omar got his first round off. Omar and Mouzone... I can't imagine a more dangerous combo. Besides the pepperoni and cheese kind, of course, those are the worst Combos around.
@Buenas Intenciones Damn man the problem with all you non-religious types is that the shit lives in your head rent free all the time. Its pathetic. You pretend you don’t care but you spam comment sections all the time insulting whatever religion of choice. You’re like a christian spazzing out because somebody doesn’t believe in christ. Instead, you spaz out because someone believes in something while you don’t, and that frustrates you that not everybody carries the same beliefs you do.
Stringer hated Opened Doors Always telling people to "Lock that Door" and at the end when his life is in danger and needs to escape the doors are blocked off. The irony. . . Also when Stringer looked at Brother Mouzone. Brother had nothing to say to him because he already told him "I will take care of Them myself" when stringer went to see him at the hospital asking who shot him trying to hide the fact that he's the one who set him up in the first place. Stringer is one of my Favorite characters but dam you done Fucked up buddy.
Yeah but Mouzone would have killed Stringer anyway, you really think Mouzone would have went back to New York and just let it slide and forget about it lol, I mean of course I do think Stringers slip up played a role in his demise, but his comments only confirmed what Brother Mouzone most likely suspected. Brother Mouzone and Omar we’re just to smart, even down to Brother Mouzone entering the barbershop where Avon was, how did he know Avon was there ? You can tell like Omar he did his homework and was very strategic in his approach.
I love the look Omar gives to the business man crying on the floor. He's not used to people showing how truly terrified they are of dying in front of him, and panicking like that at the same time.
Looking back on this scene, I did not realize how hopeless I was to think Stringer would talk his way out of this. He is literally pleading with the two most principled men in the whole damn show. I bet if Omar was in NY, Brother Mouzone would have loved to have Omar as a part of his organization.
I actually think it's kinda sad that he had Omar AND Mouzone come after him directly... lol man had NO CHANCE of survival lmao.. idc if he did have a gun on him. Like trying to 2 v 1 master chief and solid snake.
Love breaking bad. But BB ain't shit compared to the wire. That being said, hank was my favourite character. I was extremely pissed when they killed him off.
@@marcelor818 Breaking Bad, Sopranos and The Wire are my favorite tv shows and I can’t really decide which one is the best. They are slightly different and I love them equally
Yeah, but Omar claimed he "never turned a gun on anyone not in the game" when he was about to testify in court. Doesn't sound right....he turned a gun on this guy.
@@user-tb2jy9lu3d The difference is he didn’t shoot or rob him ,he just pointed to make sure he didn’t have a weapon or was with Stringer Bell. Notice he just walked away and didn’t shoot him.
Stringer was like the Walter White of The Wire, a truly fascinating and intelligent character, and someone who wanted to play the game without using violence, but in the end was a horrible scumbag.
Malachi Coleman Lol, how am I a scumbag? Stringer ordered the torture of Brandon, and snitched on Avon, after putting a hit on D'Angelo for doing the same thing. Walt murdered Mike in cold blood just because Mike insulted him. Not to mention poisoning a kid, trying to frame his brother-in-law for just doing his job, and handed his partner over to be tortured. Great characters, but horrible human beings.
Kevin Kibble because you are. Uhm you realize Brandon robbed them, was he supposed to let him live? You clearly don't know what you're talking about either, he "snitched" on Avon because dude was bad for business, killing for some corners they don't even need, you fucking serious? Even he realized this in the very next episode after Stringer was killed, was it really that hard for him to realize String was before he died? He didn't snitch on him out of malicious or anything, it was just fucking business, and they both turned on each other, Avon is the one who got Stringer killed in the first place!!! And you can't use the excuse that Stringer snitched on him because Avon didn't even know until after. I'm really tired of idiots acting like him having D'angelo killed wasn't necessary. It was obvious that the dude wasn't reliable and was very close to turning on them, he started doing heroin too. You think String would want to sit there and have that shit on his mind about whether or not he would rat all that time, 20 years is a long fucking time. Killing D was necessary, so stop with that bullshit. Mike, you mean the same guy who almost killed Walt at least 3 times, assaulted him, berated and condescended him all the time? You mean that Mike? Yeah, Mike had the shit coming for a long time, it's only so much a man can take. If you were Walt you would've done the same thing. Also, you act as if Mike was some innocent guy. I'm not even gonna go over the rest, but have you ever heard of the phrase "do what you gotta do", yeah, that's what String and Walt did, scumbag.
Malachi Coleman Yes, they needed to deal with Brandon, I'm not disputing that. But torturing him to death rather than just giving him a quick gunshot to the head was horrible. Killing for corners was part of the game, Stringer had been with Avon for so long that surely he knew that was how shit went down. Avon had his reasons for getting String killed, Stringer fucked with Avon's family, even if D'Angelo was a snitch. Mike was on his way out, about to go on the run and Walt killed him, not over Mike trying to kill him, but over petty ego shit. What a nice guy. I notice you keep calling me a scumbag, but haven't answered my question, of how not liking two fictional characters makes me one? Get a grip, son.
Kevin Kibble you just said you liked them but said they were "horrible", so do you like them or not? They tortured him trying to get him to tell them where Omar was, and eventually he died from his injuries. Yes, he knew that's how the game was, but he was trying to change it, what don't you get? Yes, it may have been a futile attempt, but he tried. And no, that's not why he he got Stringer killed, he was willing to try and work something out with Mouzone and Omar for them not to kill Stringer. But he realized that it wasn't negotiable, so he just told them. Avon accepted D's death, he wasn't even stuck on that, he knew the game was the game, regardless if Stringer did it. Stringer and Avon were practically family, they knew each other from when they were kids, they were brothers. He knew him way longer than D too. Like I said, it's only so much a man can take. All of that shit Mike put Walt through was building up, and up, and he just snapped in the moment while Mike was just berating the fuck outta him. If you were Walt, you would've done the same, anyone would. They were badasses, especially Walt, and the fact you're trying to deny that makes you a scumbag. It doesn't matter if he wasn't a "nice" guy, fuck being "nice", that doesn't equate to being a scumbag. But yeah, you are though.
Stringer Bell had this coming…. That man after telling “Avon” that he was the one to set up “D’Angelo” to be killed, went right to the police to get “Avon” out the way so he can continue his business with the “Co-Op”….. He tried to get “Brother MOUZONE” who was hired by “Avon” to hold down the towers, killed by telling “Omar” that it was him that killed his boy “Brandon”, and in the end hoping that they both would kill each other….. Etc etc etc etc. Stringer bell was responsible for a lot of devious and grimey sleezeball shyt and “Avon” still stuck by him!!!!! Even after “Avon” learning what really happened to his nephew, he was approached by “Brother MOUZONE” and in that conversation “Avon” was trying to negotiate for “Stringer Bell’s” life!!!!!!! Everything came full circle in the end, and “Stringer Bell” brought this all on himself!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stringer Bell, one of my favorite characters from this tv series, I knew it was a matter of time for him to get killed tho but guy was a badass and he went out like it too, he took them shots like a real man.
***** He was a snitch. He snitched on Avon to get him out the way. You answered your own question. After killing D for being a snitch, he contradictorily snitched on Avon for a purpose. Everybody with a right man know one can't convert a corrupt system into a legal one; only a fool would. Fuck Stringer
Master Yodai Stringer rightfully met his fate. This is a true classic example of when a mr "know it all" gets ahead of himself, tries to fit a pair of shoes too big for him.
this was the first time a character's death actually made me feel something. this dude quickly became my favourite villain of all time. such a well-written character, and portrayed amazingly by Idris Elba. man. i dont even know what to say. i wish they didnt kill his ass. i just saw this episode today and i dont know what the series is gonna be like after this. damn. on the plus side, idris elba just became one of my favourite actors because of his role as stringer bell.
You should probably keep that to yourself lol. Not sure if you missed the memo but Stringer was an embarrassment to the game on every level. Hence why he was chopped the way he was.
@@Alex-jv5cs lol i was hella young when i wrote that comment. ive rewatched the wire 1-2 times since then and my perspective about a lotta things changed. stringer was a fool for thinkin he was bigger than the game and got got for it salute for the comment lol, it made me laugh reading something i posted 9 years ago
To me it was surprising just because they took out such a pivotal character. I don't know why I'm surprised because they already showed that no one was safe with Dee, but I still couldn't believe they would kill String
"Your boy gave you up! And we ain't had to torch his ass neither!" It's great to see Omar saying that line with Stringer realizing that an early act of cruelty has finally come back to be his doom. Come to think of it, they sort of repeated this idea in the end of "Boardwalk Empire", but I won't say how in case people are still watching it.
true all though i would consider what McNulty said 'it was a goddamn tortureparty' and 'thats what the giggerrette burns, broken fingeers craked forearms where about, he was trying to find you' cracked forarms broken fingers and an eye gouged out is more like torture, they didnt burn him they displayed him like a deer(thats what he said when they were talkin durin the basketball game when the fat he was gay was brought up. remeber thats what freaked that kid out his one eye staring, but it was great to see that hypocrite Bell get blown away. Thats why he dumped the boy wwho gave Omar up to Boe Tie, cos he saw what Brandon had done to him without squealing
In this same episode Stringer met with Bunny Colvin. They talked about how they both tried to make some sense to "the game" by the means of reform. The line "get on with it motherfuckers" ties these two reformers together. Stringer says it right before he is shot, and when Colvin is fired he says the exact same thing. I find this little detail very amazing, and it makes me respect the writers of this show even more.
I love this scene. I love how Stringer is always in control; he's always calm, but in this scene, he's actually scared. It was odd seeing Stringer in a situation in a position where he had no way out. He was desperate. He wanted a way out. Shit, the Wire has got to be the best TV Show of all time. Breaking bad is very close, but it's no Wire. While I'm glad that Omar (my favorite character) got revenge, I was honestly sad to see Stringer go.
The Shield The Sopranos Breaking Bad The Wire All of them are so good they are interchangeable for the style and writing. Every one of them is a must and fans would love the ones they haven’t seen.
Lmao yo when stringer started running I was in tears haha...I've never seen him react like that lol but when he died I was tight... One of the best characters... Idris Elba is one of the best black actors we have
The Wire man...it doesn't get better than this. This show is incredible, it's nothing like you've ever seen before. Watching Bell's death for the first time is mindblowing after everything you've watched from the Wire up to his death. The depth of this show is genius.
+Sloth from The Goonies they turned him down the creator said he was too "gangster" aka we don't want a black man playing James Bond smh he would of been great
+Sloth from The Goonies Come on, Omar is a better actor but poor fella does n't have as good of looks as Stringer. No wonder our Stringer would become Mr. 007 himself.
we always think we are smarter than we are until boom! stringer thought he had taken care of avon but....if only omar killed mouzone that time/if only those mofos got omar that sunday morning. loose ends everywhere
That look in stringer's eyes at 1:12. When he realized that the guy he's trusted his entire life, couldn't be trusted at all. Betrayal is the worst type of pain of them all!
That line about how Avon gave Stringer up, when he knows that he just gave Avon up to the cops. They ended up betraying each other. The funny part is that Avon actually tried to negotiate for Stringer's life, but he was trapped by being the head of his gang and thus had to obey the laws of that world, so Brother wasn't going to let it go without Stringer's head.
Avon was willing to literally pay the consequences for String's actions. It took his reputation & his connection to NY for him to give him up. String gave up Avon because he was in his feelings over Avon getting in his ass over Clay Davis. String was bitter & petty. Hell, Avon wasn't hurt by String snitching. He seemed relieved of guilt. String was more devastated by it. He didn't even think that it was Avon who dropped the dime on him.
When Omar says, "You still don't get it do you?" I don't think he was talking about Brandon or revenge for Brandon specifically. He says it with a grin on his face. I think he was laughing because he was bewildered by the fact that Stringer didn't understand that whole side of the game, which is typified by revenge. In his mind he's like, "Omg, he doesn't even understand something as simple as revenge hahaha. That's hilarious!"
David Simon said it best, "Keeping Stringer Bell alive would've been good for the character, but it would've hurt the story." It must've been hard for the show's creator to let go one of his most interesting characters.
The first two seasons of Prison Break were absolutely phenomenal. The show went completely downhill when it went from escaping prison to escaping multiple prisons and saving the world.
This really took out a part from the charm of the show in a way for me. Stringer was such an interesting character. I looked forward to him trying to build his empire "legit" while trying to keep his gangster part under wraps.
Then you missed the point of his character. 1) He wouldn't have ever been able to go legit. He didn't have the business killer instinct to go against sharks like Clay Davis or others. The moment he got played like a chump, he wanted to go back to his street roots and have Clay killed, which if that happened, the resulting heat would've wrecked the Barksdale organization. And this is despite Avon pulling rank and telling him not to go through with it. If he's that dumb on such a basic concept, he wouldn't have made it far either way. 2) He was caught on the wiretap anyways, and there was a case being built against him for years. He was on borrowed time.
Stringer's last look at Brother Mouzone, saying, "kill this, guy (Omar); we can work something out..." then, Brother stares intently back at Stringer, with a rye smile, as if to say, "No, sir." Pure visual poetry.
Just realized that when Omar and Brother have the showdown in the alley there's a train in the background. There's a train in the background as they walk away here, when brother gets back to Baltimore he says "slow train coming", and the season ending montage uses a song called fast train
Stringer every eventually grows to the point where he wanted to get out of the life... But he was still moving pieces around, dipping his toe back in, and had already caused too much havoc. Either you are in or you are out, and Stringer you are in this...
I remember the newspapers having a story about how the writers and producers needed protection because a lot of women threatened their lives for having killed off STRINGER. That tells you this show rang out.
lol I remember the next day after this episode LMAO If you didn't know what female watched the Wire before this episode you definitely found out by the next episode. Women were mad as hell lol cussing out Omar left and right.
This was the most bittersweet and unexpected TV death. I respected Avon as a businessman who wanted to change the game, but for everything like having Wallace killed, Stringer was deserving of this death. The way that he was running through the building hopelessly trying to find an exit, wow. I thought he was going to jump through the window for a minute and take his chances. The way the show was going, I thought that Stringer would take out Avon in and be the kingpen because Avon didn't see that there was more to their business than the drugs.
This was expected and well written! Mouzone return, Roof tope scene and graveyard meeting with COlving, many scenes were clues to Stringer fate! Omar death that was totally unexpected brother
*SPOILER* Yeah, I'm not a man though, I'm a woman. I was so shocked to see Omar die too, especially like that. Michael followed in his footsteps, and DuQuon in Bubs' footsteps. I like how they showed the history of all of the grown-up characters through the "Boys of Summer" characters. This also shows the the vicious circle that the people at the bottom of the face each generations because the higher ups want "juke stats."
Marie B *SPOILER* Yeah seeing Dukie like that at the end of the show was similar to a death of a main character. Even worse perhaps because you just know all the suffering he's gonna go through
Wallace wus literally snitching to the police and doing dope Lol ofcoarse they killed wut shud they have done let him give er1 up and go to prison with a smile Lol smh
I look at this scene like this: String got caught by both sides of the game. Omar, with the shotgun, represents the streets and the game. He is standing at the same level as String when he shoots him. Notice again that Omar doesn’t kill the civilian contractor, because he isn’t in the game. Omar represents the street vengeance, because String violated multiple street codes in his conduct. Brother represents the moral code of conduct in the game. Notice how he doesn’t speak at all. He is also standing at the top of the staircase, in front of a locked door. This signifies that he represents a level of the game that Stringer could never amount to. He is the criminal, but ethical side of the game, where your word and your reputation are your substance. Stringer had no morals, he betrayed Avon, and played outside the rules. That’s why Brother is standing high above Stringer, casting his judgement down on him. The locked door represents the civilian, clean side of the game. It was impossible for Stringer to transition into a lifestyle outside of the drug game because he thought he was smarter than all the other players in the game. The building he is killed in represents the drug game itself. Everyone involved in the game is within the confines of it’s walls, and there is little, if no opportunity to teach the top if you disrespect multiple layers of the game. Avon knew it. “What did I tell you about playing those away games.” This was done perfectly.
The foreshadowing in this show is incredible. Up until this episode Stringer Bell was always telling his lieutenants "boy I hope I don't get murdered by Omar Little and Brother Mouzone in a physical monument to my own hubris," "I really hope my schemes don't backfire on me and lead my best friend Avon to sell me out to notorious gunslingers Omar Little and Brother Mouzone" and stuff like that. And then this scene comes. David Simon you've done it again
Ironically, the ending theme of this season was named Fast Train by Solomon Burke
Still don't getting do you?
The show is rife with symbolisms and details that foreshadows important events. Every scene is intentional. This what makes The Wire rewatchable and ages like fine wine.
I love going to TH-cam to read comments on The Wire scenes. Sometimes people dig really deep, even more than what the director intended and that is also intentional. That guy was a crook, so shooting him doesn't violate the code. Omar just spared him because Omar didn't know that guy was a thief and that guy wasn't an immediate threat like the bodyguard.
The Super Star Yeah he def contemplated it, but the guy was so pathetic he just was like screw it. I wished he had lit his ass up though...
Marian Liviu Right. He could've shot him in the behind just for kicks
Jon Kline Yeah. The cops should've waited until Stringer got Clay Davis killed before intending to arrest Stringer. Stringer was living on borrowed time, so he should've just dropped Clay Davis himself.

Stringer wanted to be a businessman so he gave up Avon to the cops and the world he was so desperate to join. Avon gave up his boy to the streets so he could continue thriving living the gangster lifestyle. Truly awesome writing.

So why is Avon giving up Stringer not snitching? Does it depend on who you snitch too? If you give up somebody to save your ass , did you snitch?
"...remind me of Stringer." - Wallace on the queen
Damn I never thought of it that way.

There's also that similar moment between Bodie, Snoop, O-Dog, and Chris in the fourth season.
NatPickett357 spot on
Omar is always more like a Knight to me. Wildcard, unorthodox, unpredictable - his method, actions and gender all yield those same attributes. Even his hairstyle looks like a Knight. Mouzone is the Bishop literally with his religious outlook, clean cut appearance and manner.

Even worse, Brother got owned by the guy that got owned by a kid. Nice image.

+Wermhats Wormhat
You're completely and utterly ignorant on Islam, to say the least.
Wermhats Womhat is a classic bigot, no need to request further explanation because he's obviously here just to spread his pathetic-muslim-hating spiel, The Quran doesn't say you should go on killing whoever you want because they're infidel, in fact what Mouzone does as a job has no relation to the Islamic religion whatsoever.
now hold up the hit on wallace was justified due to wallace snitching to the police and d sold out bay to the police before stringer ordered the hit on him
There are plenty of gangsters who if asked would identify as Christian on the show, what's so weird about having a Muslim one too?
1:01 I love the imagery of Omar's silhouette flanked by those birds...like an angel of death coming to bring justice to Stringer...

Stringer hated Opened Doors Always telling people to "Lock that Door" and at the end when his life is in danger and needs to escape the doors are blocked off. The irony. . . Also when Stringer looked at Brother Mouzone. Stringer was like the Walter White of The Wire, a truly fascinating and intelligent character, and someone who wanted to play the game without using violence, but in the end was a horrible scumbag.
Neither of them were "horrible scumbags", but you are though.
Malachi Coleman
Yes, they needed to deal with Brandon, I'm not disputing that.

+Sloth from The Goonies Come on, Omar is a better actor but poor fella does n't have as good of looks as Stringer. No wonder our Stringer would become Mr. 007 himself.
One of the best shows ever. So far ahead of its time.
Omar made that trenchcoat look fly af 😭😂
The contractor deserves an Oscar for his performance..... When he saw the gun he folded up like a quilt....😂
I love that Colvin and Stringer each have the same "last lines"
"What did I tell you about them away games? "
Avon Barksdale
we always think we are smarter than we are until boom! stringer thought he had taken care of avon but....if only omar killed mouzone that time/if only those mofos got omar that sunday morning. loose ends everywhere
they saw yo ghetto ass comin from MIIIIIIILES away nigga
That look in stringer's eyes at 1:12. When he realized that the guy he's trusted his entire life, couldn't be trusted at all. Betrayal is the worst type of pain of them all!
One of the most iconic scenes of all time. Respect to all these actors. Top talent
1:59 At this moment he realized the one time...He couldn't talk/smart his way out of this..And came to terms with it.
Idris Elba was best Villain as Stringer on The Wire. He was smart, educated with Dreams which was relatable. No one else came close afterwards.
Marlo did a lot more than come close.
Brother never said a word 😃 they say beware of the quiet ones😃shhhhh
That building has mad fire hazards
+Jonathan Halloran
No, he was pissed, not amused.
+Jonathan Halloran whats hilarious as that you can make yourself laugh at something you just pulled out of your ass
+Jonathan Halloran gangstas never think 'OMG' #justsayin
lul
Every game has offense and defense and a draw.
The greatest moment in tv history, I get goosebumps everytime I watch this.
Omar was just walking the whole time! I love it!
Stringer not knowing the ins and outs of his properties told us how unserious he was as a developer
The way he looks him up and down when he says *Your boy* gave you up
David Simon said it best,
"Keeping Stringer Bell alive would've been good for the character, but it would've hurt the story."
It must've been hard for the show's creator to let go one of his most interesting characters.
"Well, get in with it moth...'' Until that point, I never believed they would actually kill Stringer. Real life. Best Show Ever.
0:31 Omar be like the fuck is this guy doing? Sliding like a walrus on the floor.
Offended Badly then Subscribed troll game 0/10, would not subscribe.
Stringer was trapped in the refuge that he built to escape the game. He didn't realize it was a coffin all a long.
I'm outta breath watching Stringer run so much.
They'd all survive if it was Prison Break. And they'd break outta jail too.
Fuck that shit show and fuck the 'company'
Saracen LDN lmao chill
The first two seasons of Prison Break were absolutely phenomenal. The show went completely downhill when it went from escaping prison to escaping multiple prisons and saving the world.
This really took out a part from the charm of the show in a way for me. Stringer was such an interesting character. I looked forward to him trying to build his empire "legit" while trying to keep his gangster part under wraps.
Me too. Sort of tuned out after this, plus he was so handsome. I like good looking men in my shows.
@@EChai900 You missed out then because season 4 was easily the best. Had everything.
He was so far out the game that he didn't even have a yammy on em! Damn, always keep the Yammy!
'Your friend gave you up and we didn't have to torture his ass either' is some amazing dialogue.
i love this duo so much
Mouzone AND Omar? Shiiiiieeet, Stringer accumulated godlike levels of unluck by this point.
DarthUchiha17 it’s not bad luck when you pit two murderers against each other for crimes you committed. Stringer wasn’t as smart as he thought he was.
Noticed how every door was locked lol like in previous episodes of the wire, he loved locked doors... 🤣
Stringer's last look at Brother Mouzone, saying, "kill this, guy (Omar); we can work something out..." then, Brother stares intently back at Stringer, with a rye smile, as if to say, "No, sir."
Pure visual poetry.
Good eye, sir!!
I love how Omar comes through the door at 1:02 with that trench coat and the doves flying away, the angel of death coming for Stringer.
Women were mad as hell lol cussing out Omar left and right.
im just saying....i had my wife half convinced that if we ever had a boy we could name it Idris
damn,.. women really love idris like that?
Marie B
*SPOILER* Yeah seeing Dukie like that at the end of the show was similar to a death of a main character. Even worse perhaps because you just know all the suffering he's gonna go through
Wallace wus literally snitching to the police and doing dope Lol ofcoarse they killed wut shud they have done let him give er1 up and go to prison with a smile Lol smh
I like how omar came out with his eyes trained on stringer the whole time, even when he shot the body guard.
50cent need to give brother marzone a part in one of his shows
2:04 Brother Mouzone look says “you know EXACTLY why I’m here!”
Still one of the saddest moments since I've been watching television.
Hmmm I'd say making them kill Wallace was the saddest moments for me, having them prove themselves by killing a friend was pretty foul by Stringer.
This was some great acting from Idris Elba, very natural.
When stringing people along comes to a much needed end.
😂😂
lmaooooooo🤣🤣
