The game rhythm, length and quest types reminds me a lot of Monster Hunter Games and I feel like they are taking a lot of inspiration from them with all the post-launch content philosophy. Those games take around 20-30 hours to complete the main story, but they have post-game content and of course post-game grinding to the point where people can play hundreds and even thousands of hours and still can grind more (never will forget the rarity attack decos from MH World). Hope they copy that style because it was a huge success.
What a great combo of interviewer and interviewee! Your questions were amazing, and as you said, Yasuyuki Kaji was extremely open and willing to give new information to you, and appreciate that. I think you asked the questions that we were wondering about, as well as some other ones that were brilliant as well! It's too bad that there's no crossplay, especially seeing as how they made a big deal (for a good reason) about that for Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising, which will come out sooner than Relink. But anyway, I'm still definitely excited! It's my most anticipated RPG ever! (And GBVS is my favorite fighting game ever. It's looking like Granblue will hold the top spots in two genres for me!)
I normally wouldn't mind a 20 hours story, the original Nier was roughly that long and I enjoyed that game immensely. But for a game with a large cast and dense lore like Granblue, I can't help but be a bit worried about that length. I wasn't expecting a length comparable to the gacha obviously but 30-40 hrs would've been the sweet spot for me personally. Here's hoping they managed to write at least a decent stand alone plot in just 20. Best case scenario is that this game does well enough to get a sequel so we get to have more stories to explore in the future.
i was under the assumption tht the bulk of the playtime would be the multiplayer quest and not so much the main quest. Similiar to arpg games where its all about the endgame and upgrading your gear to max.
I always play solo first and then I'll play online with randos afterwards. I like to make sure that I'm not just being carried by other players. The playtime of games has always baffled me as when I play a game, I'm not ever anywhere near the playtime they say it is. I guess I play differently than other people as I search every corner of the game. My playtime is always double the amount than what they say it is. I think it's important to not play the game with any guides open or metas in mind. Your first playthrough should be with just you and the knowledge you aquire along the way.
That was a very good set of questions and I'm happy that you're able to get a good majority of them answered. I'm glad that there's still gung ho about the fact that despite the game story only taking 20 hours to complete they're heavily saying that's only if you go through the story there's still a whole bunch of stuff you can do to extend the play time. Not to mention the fate episodes giving you the incentive to increase your character's abilities and stuff really makes them very important to actually want to go through to not only want to make the characters stronger but also to make you want to know more about them. The cross play answer is a bit hesitant on my end mainly because I have a friend who would love to play the game with me but he mostly plays on PS5 and I play on PS4 since I still can't find APS 5 so hopefully either they do announce that will get cross play or if it's just console to specific console and PC then my friend may have to get it on PS4 also. In spite of that though again it impressed me that they were able to give you a good amount of answers for your questions and that they also answered some of my questions which makes me even more excited for the game to come out. Normally I would be like I so can't wait to play this game and I'm Still in that ballpark Right Now but now that we're getting Closer to star ocean second story R coming out which By The Way the demo is Amazing and tales of arise is Finally getting a story expansion DLC..... I think I'll be pretty good on my action RPG fix for the next few months until relink drops lol. Overall fantastic job on the video and once again thanks for making me even further further further hyped for this game despite the fact that I already pre-ordered it online and I may give the manga a read!
@@HavianCritDmg Fingers heavily crossed because my friend just informed me that hes definitely gonna be getting the PS4 version and double-crossed because praying we don't need plus just so we can play Together online.
Thank you for the updates and work that you’ve been doing for Relink and Granblue overall. The last question definitely hit the mark as I’m not a mobile/gatcha game fan but LOVE everything Granblue brings to the table through its art, music and world. Hoping for Relink’s future to be bright! Side Cygame note: If Dragalia Lost ever got an actual RPG game too, that would be awesome!!!
Great video, loved that you asked different questions than the standard ones, you gleaned some new good info. At this point the main thing I want to know is whether they'll include more characters as DLC since it's my number 1 wish for the game, but several interviewers asked that and they didn't really respond clearly, just that they'll have endgame focused DLC. Looking forward to the showcase in a few hours.
I think the Online Quest 3:37 is more like the Skyscope Quest in Granblue Fantasy, which requires players to complete certain quests, such as raids, special quests, etc., to obtain a reward. like Defeat *Name of Raid Bosses 10 times or Uncap or Upgrade Weapon to get this item or mats.
It's certainly possible that Relink will have a feature like Skyscope too. But in this instance, they specifically mentioned "will receive a bonus to 'dropped' items when tackling certain online quests". Rather than, receive items for fulfilling specific objectives in online quests.
If the Fate Epsiodes are about 3 episodes (sounds like there's at least more than 1 episode) and about 10 to 20 minutes or so thana long with the 20 hour for main stories that could easily push the game's length to around 60+ hours given how many characters you can play...I generally play as much side content as possible and am crazy enough to go out of my way to read every piece of npc dialogue after any major story development (or in Trails series case each time the day progresses/before and after quests as Falcom changes dialogue fo npcs at least 4 times per chapter/after each quest with said dialogue usually being about said quest) as said dialogues can give a bit more interesting world lore most of the time (sometimes it's a miss and the dialogue is a waster of time though but many times it builds onto the general world lore or the npc character's history...Trails in particular has some npc storylines that start in 1 game and continue into almost ever game afterwards) which adds in another 20+ hours alone as well. The game will likely also get some sort of post game content as well which if it's story based will just add into the above time....only real issue that could come up with dlc is whether or not they try to push gacha like aspects given the core series is a gacha game...which if they do will turn off fans of this game or retail non gacha games like it/people that try the game in the west and even if they don't go the gacha route the price vs what you get can also become an issue as if the problem isn't gacha half the time the other issue would be how pricey some dlcs can get for how little you get (say $5 or more for 1 costume that only gives visual changes for a character or a $10 story dlc that lasts barely an hour and gives no real new story additions or recaps events from the main game (Alisha dlc in Tales of Zestiria is prime example of this and people didn't like it for that reason)). The game overall is starting to sound more like it'll be a anime style Monster Hunter game using preset characters with actual personalities from their answers in this video...well as long as it's a good game and the side content gives a lot of character/world building I guess it doesn't matter that much if the main story length isn't as long as I'd prefer (50 hours or so). Hell in an idea world this game would do well enough that it'd encourage Cygames to adapt the main story into a console game, well series of games as there's too much story for 1 game, that plays like this one...hell could even be turn based I'd just rather explore an actual world rather than just click on an area, get a few text boxes for story, battle, and then rinse and repeat or go to an actual town you could explore (in that sense even though the story's meh if not bad and combat's very meh Genshin Impact is a somewhat better game due to letting you walk around and explore things even with being a gacha (worst aspect of the game tbh as it affects balaned of the game negatively and forces people to shell out ungodly amounts of cash)...even their games like Star Rail that go with field maps over full on open world is a bit better in game design in this regard).
Thanks for the confirmation on the state of Cross-play! I just cancelled my PS5 pre-order; I'll lose out on the bonuses for my Danchou in the mobile game unfortunately. Guess I'll use the discounts I have stockpiled for Granblue on Fate/Samurai Remnant. With the accessibility controls, I am hoping I can get my mom to play the game with me.
It's nice to see that the quest multiplayer has a minimum power lvl to enter. Don't want to carry someone who is way under lvl. Sad to see crossplay isn't a thing at launch.
Even though the main campaign it’s short probably the endgame will be good with lots of replay value. Plus there are more characters coming and playing all of them can make up for the short campaign also
Thank you so much for your coverage on this game Havian. I'll definitely pick this up day one. Quick question, do you have a favorite character since you got to play it?
Speaking of similarities with Monster Hunter, Square Enix did try back in 2015 making their own Monster Hunter-like game called Final Fantasy Explorers. You had up to 4 skills with abilities and yes, that game also had mage classes as well, something which Monster Hunter didn't have. And the game's UI was very similar to Monster Hunter.
Oh wow, that's a name I haven't heard in a while. I actually did play that back when the Japanese version first came out, I remember it being pretty fun. th-cam.com/video/ObcNO865pnQ/w-d-xo.html
Honestly I think im fine with such a short story mode. I often find that I am not able to finish a lot of jrpgs due to just how long the games can be. I tend to get a bit burnt out before I can finish. In this way I can for sure finish the story and just continue to play as long as I am having fun without feeling bad about stopping at any time.
20 hours is pretty short and it sounded like the "post-main-story" missions will also not be that much dense (director mentions "a dozen or so hours" on that content). What I would expect then is that they will add new endgame content over time, events and such, just as they did on the gacha game. I really hope that is the case.
In the previous interview, they already mentioned that playing in the quest mode can lead to 100+ hours of content. The dozens of hours was related to the additional story content.
Do you happen to know if anyone asked about the delay into 2024 after they said last year in June, when they delayed the game from a 2022 release date, that it would come out in 2023? Or why in early this year when they said " Winter 2023" why didn't they address it as a delay?
Thanks for your reports and news on Granblue pal!! amazing job. Question, now that you have tried the game and that, do characters have skills trees, do they learn new abilities as they progress the game or are just the four skills the only thing they have??
Characters have skill trees, and they'll learn more skills as you progress through those trees. They have more than the starting 4, but you can only set 4 active skills in the palette at a time.
I wonder if multiplayer has scaling, like in monster hunter world where the enemies get more hp with how many people in the group is, or just vanilla world where the enemy is either solo scaled or multi scaled which made 2 players way harder than 1 or 4 people.
Not sure yet, but there might not be much scaling since you always have the option of having 4 party members, whether you're online or offline. You can fight things with one character if you really want to, but enemy HP might always be based on having 4 members in a party.
I've been following your videos since you seem the only one talking about this game to this extent. So i would like to ask you if he said anything about DLC in the future, like additional maps and story, as well as more characters?
So far they've mentioned that they will be doing post release updates with new quests and bosses, but they can't share any additional details about it yet. They said they'll announce everything at a later date, which will most likely be during the January showcase.
i wonder how big each stages or levels are and will they allow for exploration for hidden loot, side quests, lore etc. or are they just linear corridors with some mobs and a boss in the end.
Hmm no crossplay....damn...that's a shame. Really wanted to buy this =( I guess I'll wait and hope for an update that introduces crossplay down the line. I'm on PC and none of my PC friends are interested in this, my console friends however are. Damn this news was a real kick in the nuts ngl.....sheeeeet xD
Was hoping for a long story driven rpg, looks more like short quick story with endless grinding to get maxed characters. Reminds me of White Knight Chronicles, but with less story. Still looking forward to it, just was expecting more given how long the games been in development.
@@devlo2348 Buddy I've played all types of games, from Nes to the Ps5. If you ever played the game I mentioned. It was massive, with single player storyline and hundred of hours of multiplayer afterwards. All on the Ps3. Was hoping this game would be similar. Still going to buy the collector edition, and platinum it.
Is there a certain order we unlock characters or is there some sort of item to unlock a character to play it in online mode? Besides that great video man, you the goat. ❤
@HavianCritDmg that's great to know because I thought it would be tied to an online system or we would have limited selection (with not unlocking them all). I personally am going to be unlocking all my favorites before worrying about optimal parties n all. Thanks for all the info!
._. I hope alot of it not involved around multiplayer. I just like to be able to do everything by myself without having to rely on others or worry if servers go offline later
Damn it I'm furious. No cross play. My friends are in psn and PC and we're hyped to play together now we can't. I hope they implement it like they did in versus eventually.
They've mentioned that you can go through the story again, but I'm not sure if there will be harder versions of story stages yet. This is the type of game that's intended to be continued after the credits roll, so I'm not sure if there will be any kind of NG+
Is the skills to flashy that might hurt your eyes i mean being that close to the monitor im just gonna assume no 😂 just messing with you thx for the info 👍.
20 hours to complete the story is okay. It's just like Monster Hunter post ending is the real game. I hope to enjoy this game before the release MH6. 😅
The one thing I'm curious about is whether or not other players can use the same character or will we be forced to choose different characters for multiplayer.
I remember in their Famitsu interview, they said you can use the same character in co-op and the characters are also available in different colors, so you can tell each other apart!
Ngl....they should add crossplay they kinda lame hopefully they'll discuss it more and add it in the future but overall THANK YOU FOR THE NEWS BRO CAN'T WAIT TILL TOMORROW
One question: Are there afk counter measures? As most are proper players, you’re just ought to meet some weirdos that afk the whole match and only come back once the rewards are up.
It depends if they add a participation system like the original game. In that game everyone can get basic drops, but the people that contribute over a certain threshold have a higher chance of getting the better loot.
The main story is single player only, but I'm not sure if you can still take part in the single player activities while other players are doing their own thing in your lobby. I'll have to look into it.
Sucks about the crossplay. I have friends I play FF14 with and most only have pcs but friends that are only on ps5 that plan on getting it so I guess I’ll be picking up both versions. Probably PC first and ps5 when it goes on sale. It’s already gonna be a hectic month with this, P3P, Like a dragon & FF7 releasing so close to one another.
I have high expectancies for this game, but it's just too bad they don't plan on adding cross play. I got a friend who is a PS5 player and we badly want to play this together. I don't know how much it costs them to add this functionality, so maybe they they deemed it unprofitable? It's just too bad.
@@GodsMercenary Yeah it’s basically a more casual Monster Hunter with faster combat. Might wait to pick this up on sale then at a deep discount. Definitely not day 1 anymore.
With FF7 Rebirth coming out in the same month, the 20hr story may be super convenient. Im amped for both, but I do want to take my time and enjoy Relink. I just fear FF7 will be a super spoiled game given how beloved FF7 is. How are y'all feeling about FF7 and Relink coming out in the same month? Kinda feel like these two have overlapping fans.
I mean a win is a win relink would take around 100 hours to platinum the game i think its more than enough time to finish relink then go on with rebirth
See i look at this differently. 20 hours main story took 9 years to finish..what in the hell were they doing. This game should be no less than 40 hours main story. 20 hours is very little.
I don't think the main story made much of an impact on the development time, since it seems like they had the general idea of what they wanted to do with the story pretty early on. The additional time was most likely due to the developer change, rebuilding the game in a new engine, graphics overhaul, working from home during lockdowns, character balance, and other content. Currently Relink contains 100+ hours of content. 20 of that being the main story, and another 10-20+ hours of additional story related content (post story, side quests, fate episodes). The quest mode will most likely take 60-80 hours to get through, if you just want to clear things once. But I can see it being a mode that people can easily put hundreds of hours into if they want the gear chase. If you don't want to do it, then that's fine. But it still exists. This game was intended to have multiplayer from the beginning, so it's also part of the experience. This is the first time Cygames has developed a console game of this scale, so I'm sure they want to get everything right before it releases. After release, the general audience won't really care about the development time. They'll only see the end result.
@HavianCritDmg Okay, that's fair. However, wouldn't you agree that if they game doesn't sell enough copies to recover the money put into the game, they would have a very different outlook on how long it took to release the game and money spent trying to develop it?
Yup, it will definitely be a lesson for them. But I think they may have already planned for that situation when going into development. They're trying to break into the console market, and grow a presence worldwide at the same time, so they're fighting an uphill battle. Especially when they have to compete with other massive RPG companies. They're probably going to take it slow at the start, so I don't think we'll see the impact until all 6 of their upcoming console games have released. Project Awakening was another console game that got announced at the same time as Relink, but it still has no release date or major updates. Back in 2019 there was apparently going to be a PS4 demo for Awakening, but I assume they decided to keep working on it instead. It will most likely be a PS5 and PC game at this point.
Keep in mind, back when they were at Platinum, Platinum was _nowhere_ near halfway close to completion when development shifted in 2019. Hence why they only showed gameplay and no form of plot/story going on at the time. No menus, towns, shops, etc. The game was most likely around 30% done at the time. It wasn't until December 2019 where we finally got a teaser of the game's plot, where we got a silhouette of the villains and Lyria. Cygames, seeing how Platinum was biting more than they could possibly chew with other games, including Babylon's Fall, figured it would be better to move the project to Cygames Osaka, which seemed to be the right direction. One thing that also is kind of good about this game that this isn't a publisher owned IP, or cases where the publisher (Square Enix, Bandai Namco) owns the IP and not the devs. Had Granblue Fantasy Relink been a publisher owned IP, this would've been a different story.
@neliaironwood7573 I know there was a change in development. However that doesn't change the fact this game to many many years to see the light of day. Even after the change happened it was another 4 years working on 5. There has been huge AAA games that didn't need that long. To be clear i am looking for forward to this game. But beating a game in 20 hours with the possibility of more, really needs to blow it out of the water when it comes to gameplay and other activities to make the game longer.
We're finally starting to receive information about Relink at a faster pace. Hopefully we'll learn a lot more in today's showcase!

Great video, me personally i dont have am issue with the main campaign being only 20 hours. Not every jrpg needs to be over 100 hours😂
I thought they all felt fun to play, but Lancelot and Gran stood out. I'll need to spend more time with each character though.
Class - thanks so much!
I really hope theres longevity in this game. Looks like a game me and my wife both like together
Win relationship
I need such wife too XD
I only have one question for them: when will I be able to finally pre-order the game on Steam??
Great video as usual ! I just wanna ask about the OST you used in the background, I was jamming on It the whole time
It's from Granblue Fantasy. 満天に嘶く - Tsutomu Narita
@@HavianCritDmgI really appreciate you, keep up the amazing work Havian
I wonder if multiplayer has scaling, like in monster hunter world where the enemies get more hp with how many people in the group is, or just vanilla world where the enemy is either solo scaled or multi scaled which made 2 players way harder than 1 or 4 people.
Not sure yet, but there might not be much scaling since you always have the option of having 4 party members, whether you're online or offline. You can fight things with one character if you really want to, but enemy HP might always be based on having 4 members in a party.
Thanks bro!
Awesome job hav. No crossplay?! 😢😢 ive spread so much misinformation.. not all articles are correct..😐
@@HavianCritDmg that's reassuring. Keep the information coming, and thanks for answering.
Havian, if you get the chance to ask again if it will be optimized for portable PCs like steam deck.😅😅 BED > FPS
Or someone already asked?
If I get another chance I'll ask lol
You're awesome! Appreciate it
i wonder how big each stages or levels are and will they allow for exploration for hidden loot, side quests, lore etc. or are they just linear corridors with some mobs and a boss in the end.
Nice one Havian, hopefully they will drop a demo on PS5 before release
Hmm no crossplay....damn...that's a shame. Really wanted to buy this =( I guess I'll wait and hope for an update that introduces crossplay down the line. I'm on PC and none of my PC friends are interested in this, my console friends however are. Damn this news was a real kick in the nuts ngl.....sheeeeet xD
Was hoping for a long story driven rpg, looks more like short quick story with endless grinding to get maxed characters. Reminds me of White Knight Chronicles, but with less story. Still looking forward to it, just was expecting more given how long the games been in development.
Literally mhw but grand blue you think 20hrs are short? You may need to play just straight single player games
@@DarkKnightGrimm I can safely say I have not played those however I did play Disgaea 3: Absence Of Justice I think that was like 200hrs of content
Is there a certain order we unlock characters or is there some sort of item to unlock a character to play it in online mode? Besides that great video man, you the goat. ❤
You get items during the story that you can use to unlock the characters. You can pick the order you want to unlock them.
All of the multiplayer content can be done solo and offline.
Hey Havian, can you ask the director of the IP what the process was like to make Granblue Fantasy?
Right off the bat. It not having crossplay hurts. I have friends who are on console.
Yeh it sucks. GBF Versus had crossplay but Relink doesnt...
I just hope I dont die before I get to suck all the contents inside. All I've wanted been the game's release lol.
Damn it I'm furious. No cross play. My friends are in psn and PC and we're hyped to play together now we can't. I hope they implement it like they did in versus eventually.
Any ideas on ng+? Or repeatable story missions on harder difficulties any info would be appreciated
They've mentioned that you can go through the story again, but I'm not sure if there will be harder versions of story stages yet. This is the type of game that's intended to be continued after the credits roll, so I'm not sure if there will be any kind of NG+
@@HavianCritDmg awesome thanks for the info appreciate the videos!
Respect+
Did something was revealed about when the steam pre orders begin?
Will there be match making for the online missions?
Is the skills to flashy that might hurt your eyes i mean being that close to the monitor im just gonna assume no 😂 just messing with you thx for the info 👍.
Where did you get the clip of Sandalophon and Lucifer at 12:38?
I've never seen that clip before...I'm still sad Lucifer is gone...
Its from the Ain soph aur music video
@@Unoj151 Thanks
20 hours to complete the story is okay. It's just like Monster Hunter post ending is the real game. I hope to enjoy this game before the release MH6. 😅
Request. Can the entire game, including the quests after the end of the story, be played entirely solo? With no other players online
Yup
Wouldn't there be a leaderboard ?
why would i farming for very rare item or improve my skill play ?
It seems like It's kind of similar to SAO lost song questing system
I had a huge question, will gran and djeeta have classes like the first game?
They don't this time unfortunately. I was told that each characters playstyle will be very unique instead.
The one thing I'm curious about is whether or not other players can use the same character or will we be forced to choose different characters for multiplayer.
they already confirmed players can use the same characters when playing online
I remember in their Famitsu interview, they said you can use the same character in co-op and the characters are also available in different colors, so you can tell each other apart!
Im very disappointed bout the fact there isnt crossplay but it is what it is. Other than that im very excited to play through the story and gameplay
this is so strange since every other source i could find said there was crossplay
those people probably just assumed because Rising have crossplay or mismatched their information with Rising
Ngl....they should add crossplay they kinda lame hopefully they'll discuss it more and add it in the future but overall THANK YOU FOR THE NEWS BRO CAN'T WAIT TILL TOMORROW
Man no crossplay is a bummer. Since I got a friend who plays on console.
Make an offline version of the mobile game like megaman did xD
are they gonna be a future added DLC characters ? are they free or must buy using money ?
Relink will have DLC, but they're not ready to talk about it yet. Maybe we'll learn something at the showcase.
The only question i have left is : Can you play the campaign mode with friends in the same lobby?
Or is it solo only?
The main story is single player only, but I'm not sure if you can still take part in the single player activities while other players are doing their own thing in your lobby. I'll have to look into it.
My only question is... will there be a online demo.
Will this game help me catch up or explain the lore? Not interested in “playing” the mobile game at all
You'll learn some things, but I doubt they would be able to add the almost 10 years worth of lore into Relink.
4 month left
no crossplay is almost a deal breaker T_T I wanna play in ps5 but im sure all my friends will play on pc :/
can we please get a vr mode?
I am so surprised that there isnt crossplay because i could have swore I've read that there was crossplay... But I guess rip me i guess.... :/
Was hoping for a long open story driven game. Hearing way too much about multiplayer which is not what I want in a JRPG.
@@GodsMercenary Yeah it’s basically a more casual Monster Hunter with faster combat. Might wait to pick this up on sale then at a deep discount. Definitely not day 1 anymore.
Was there really nothing new with the stream they did after this video?
Most of it was stuff i've been through, but with new footage. There are a few more things I need to go over though.
@@HavianCritDmg Thanks, looking forward to it. We got a release date, I should be happy with that.
no X-play support 😢
With FF7 Rebirth coming out in the same month, the 20hr story may be super convenient. Im amped for both, but I do want to take my time and enjoy Relink. I just fear FF7 will be a super spoiled game given how beloved FF7 is.
How are y'all feeling about FF7 and Relink coming out in the same month? Kinda feel like these two have overlapping fans.
I mean a win is a win relink would take around 100 hours to platinum the game i think its more than enough time to finish relink then go on with rebirth
Being on ps5 I'm glad there is no crossplay. Too many cheaters on pc unfortunately.
Can we play this game multiplayer?,like 1 devide but 1p 2p
Multiplayer will most likely only be online, and not on the same device.
@@HavianCritDmg thank you for the info
Do we know if there's social points or romance elements like with the SAO games
No crossplay is a bummer
Can you parry in this game?
If you perfect block you can knock enemies off balance. I haven't checked to see if it works on bosses though.
Good idea about cross play, why the hell would we want a bigger pool of people to play with. That just sounds stupid.
the fact that no crossplay is huge disappointed, no crossplay mean divide player base and shorter life span of game 😢
@HavianCritDmg
Okay, that's fair.
@neliaironwood7573
I know there was a change in development.
Seems like ur characters take minor damage. Really hope the game isnt as easy as it seems
This really isn't the case. Watch my preview of the game if you want a better idea of how combat is: th-cam.com/video/CXxRleHDIlM/w-d-xo.html
Is Rolan Playable or just an NPC?? 😭😭
NPC at the moment, but I have a feeling that certain story characters will become playable.
Game length 20 hrs is so disappointing🤦🏾♂️ then Yu dnt have to grind for story missions make it even more disappointing 💯
The game length isn't 20 hours, it's 80-100+. The main story isn't the only part of the game.
@@HavianCritDmg story is what I meant and I hope that content is good to make me stay playing.
