As someone who finds bugs kinda fascinating, I can't help but imagine an alliance between the Kaminoans and the Collicoid.... the Kaminoans could have cloned any species the Collicoid wanted to eat, in bulk, and the Collicoid could have fortified Kaminoa to the point where the Empire had zero chance of ever being able to attack it ^_^
Most of the CIS army: silly little goobers designed for comic relief first and battle second. Collicoid droids: spill rivers of blood, dye the soil red, penetrate all things flesh. It's like they're the only faction whose goal in war is to kill the enemy. Even the Mandalorians were aiming for style points.
In a way that's kind of true, both the Republic and the Empire were influenced by the force, which is a thing that connects all things. So the goals were more control and appearance than anything. In the clone wars, Anakin often detested the Republic's lack of resolve to destroy the enemy. This of course was purposefully done to turn the Republic into the Empire. The Mandalorians, after having their homeworld glassed, fractured into religious zealots who didn't really know how to be cohesive and valued tradition and honor above everything else. They were also renowned mercenaries, but in the show their effectiveness is lackluster and held back by tradition and a superiority complex.
Yeesh. Tri-fighters, buzz droids, AND the droidekas? I didn't realize the same species made all 3 of the worst droids to fight against. Badass species.
Yeah, there's a reason I had them as part of the team behind my Droid Quad Fighter, which is sort of a Droid Starfighter version of the Trident and Droch.
This does bring up the interesting question of why more people didn't carry personal energy shields. I mean yeah they're expensive, so is replacing your expensive organic foot soldiers after you spent so much time training and equipping them. Not to mention you'd at least have a slight chance of survival against those bloody space magicians.
@@JakeBaldwin1and the only reason it produced that radiation was because the power pack had to power a shield capable of protecting the user from increasingly powerful handheld blasters. Look it up the history of all that is fascinating! It mimics our own history with body armor and guns.
@@JakeBaldwin1 But the Gungans used them as standard equipment. Perhaps Gungans were immune to the radiation? In which case, they have the potential to be a very powerful species, especially on the individual level, if they combined their handheld shield with the standard Galactic loadout. Gungans wielding blaster carbines in one hand and a full body sized shield in the other would be extremely dangerous in a firefight. And if they adapted their bombaas to be used in grenade launchers..... Not to mention being amphibious is useful wherever there's open water, and they can leap really high and do acrobatics.
@@davidschrepfer3077 yeah was about to say, it feels like a situation in which to make them compact enough to be man portable and not cook you with radiation, probably becomes exponentially more expensive, there's always the fight between size and efficiency when it comes to any machine really.
So why not have a smaller shield containing the energy generator so that the radiation can’t harm the user and then a bigger shield on the outside? Also weight really doesn’t matter because of repulsors which we know can be made quite small, so why not produce a bunch of tiny shielded one man ships that could fit through doorways and use those as infantry. You could even slap some droid arms on the outside so that people can manipulate things in the environment. Basically make every single infantrymen capable of fighting anywhere from space to the surface of a planet?
Imagine you have millions of genetically identical super soldiers just for an AI starfighter to immediately be able to predict the moves of every single one of them
my inner Dark Angel wants to acquire several models of each droid the Colicoid Creation Nest makes, for our vaults. my inner human being wants to tell every organic and robotic being that dislikes or outright hates bugs, to get their equivalent of Raid spray ready.
The different weapons developers of the Star Wars galaxy are so fascinating. Because it's such a huge galaxy, but is emphasized as a large singular community made up of many disparate groups, that means that any faction in the galaxy could have weapons built halfway across the Rim by a developer with a completely different philosophy than them. Or we could one day find out about a new developer from a new planet who makes weapons with very different objectives, but it would always fit because tech in Star Wars can come from anywhere.
The Collicoids would have honestly made great antagonists for the New Republic, especially if they capitalized on the fall of the Empire to go full expansionist and start conquering neighbouring worlds
I love the design of the Trident class. The standard droid rack indicates it has (some) easily repairable parts, along with an eye towards logistics. Even if it is overall an expensive platform. I know it is a mashup of a bunch of authors ideas, but it matches real world weapons development. Where companies make "perfect" weapons, then scale back to hit quotas or budget constraints.
Makes the Trade Federation scarier not because of what they could do themselves but because of who they sponsored to create some of the deadliest weapons that still plague the galaxy in the modern Star Wars years.
You missed some key points about the skorpenek or the protodeka, they're handcrafted and as such not too terribly common anymore. While you could of course argue that no human should ever meet more than one of their creations, I think just around 100 Skorpeneks were ever produced, before the clone wars. And even less protodekas, I think less than 5 where found over the course of the clone wars.
I love all of these droids, weapons, and breaching pods. They're all great designs. The race is a good race design as well. Plenty alien and scary. I especially liked the squid inspired breaching craft they used to attack Genosis. Since you don't have teleportation, breaching pods and shuttles are how you need to get onto enemy ships and it's a lot easier to get aboard if you can attach to the ship. Sometimes you don't want to destroy an enemy vessel and if your troops are droids, the risk is fairly low to do boarding actions, so why not go for them for intel?
my head cannon of how she could do that, as well as be on par if not stronger than trained men is that she's been on hella lot of advanced PEDs during her spec ops training.
