I always appreciated ol Captain Hundo. He was always clear about his intentions and stood by his beliefs. He could be counted on as long as you made it worth his while. And while he didn't mind killing, he didn't like needless killing. Things like his respect for Obi-Wan after he didn't pursue vengeance for kidnapping and torturing him. Though Kenobi could have still arrested him for kidnapping, torture, and indirectly killing a Senator. Then when Boba and his crew were set up in the cantina, he warns the jedi about the trap, just to show his neutrality in the events.
5:43 My mother told me, "Son! One hostage is good, two hostages is better, and three hostages? Well, that's just good business. Ha ha, thank you mama!"
Being a pirate isn’t as glamorous as movies make them out to be. Especially for the pirate captain, you aren’t just constantly watching over your back from the law, but also from your own crew.
The story of Skeleton Crew reminds me of the Crimson Fleet storyline in Starfield. Pirate crews searching for a mythical treasure that can tip the balance of power in the galaxy
With all of the chaos that the Clone and then Galactic Civil War created, it's no wonder that there would be factions that took advantage of the situation. There are billions of unexplored planets as well as the millions of colony worlds that would be ripe for plundering if you had a properly equipped crew. Looking forward to see if Jod and the pirates will be able to raid the mint or if they get foiled by the Supervisor.
No, SM-33 said he was killed by his own concubine during the mutiny. Also mentioned the captain pinning someone else to a wall with his sword, which we saw when Silvo was picking though the remains for new clothes. So, I think we can confirm he died. I was thinking that too before SM-33 had to go ruin it. I thought he would have made it in but decided to retire rather than just take the treasure and go.
on planet earth two of the factors that pressured government to crush pirate activity was the creation of corporations on the stock market with Dutch East India Company and the creation of insurance policies by Lloyds of London. Insurance rates have been for 300 years a major military issue.
I wonder if we’ll get a reintroduction of Sidon Ithano, a pirate Captain also known a the Crimson Corsair. He’s a very brief sequel character in TFA and Resistance and a few comics. I know the sequels ain’t the best for good reasons but he seems cool and I love how they integrate the last surviving clone, Kix, into their crew. Just the thought of a top tier medic becoming a pirate sounds pretty cool. I’d love to hear more about their adventures.
no one gives credit to one pirate that flew around in a freaking STAR DESTROYER! Captain Kybo Ren! .... this guy needs to show up in a live action show!
Alan, you need to read Treasure Island! Long John silver had a lot to say about the kind of people who became pirates, their economic situation, and what became of them. Ben Gunn, the guy who found the treasure, ended his life "opening a gate" for the landed gentry.
As long as theres inter planetary trade there will always be piracy it might be more difficult at curtain times with the fluctuating military/security strengths of the various factions of the galaxy
This is why I'm not a fan of the Monkey Island series. Hollywood and pop culture in general have glamorized the pirate life, when in reality, it's not that great. ☠
What's wrong with that, a cursory read of any history would change that. If people have no interest in history what is the harm in thinking pirates are cool? Are kids going to be hopping in rowboats to raid the local ferry?
Fair point. But couldn't the same be said for almost any backdrop to pop culture stories of adventure? No matter the time period - the background elements are likely romanticized versions of actual historical reality.
Space pirates in star wars were first introduced to us in the classic Marvel comics (FIRST appearance of "Crimson Jack"... *Franchise opportunities available in your sucker) and reinforced by EACH of the ORIGINAL Han Solo and Lando Calrissian novel trilogies.
My big conspiracy theory for the end of "Skeleton Crew" is we find out that At Attin isn't being hid by the New Republic but by the New Order. The planets were hid away by Palpatine and have been minting the credits the New Order will use to build their fleet and take over the galaxy.
I don't think Jod and his pirates can take At Attin. Something about those safety droids seems off. I bet the Supervisor has a switch in his office that will switch all of them into 'kill' mode.
Pirates ships were very democratic and power laid with the crew. Everyone voted on decisions, and the quartermaster could not only veto the captain on anything (unless in the middle of combat), they also decided how much of the score the captain got. The pirate Captain "Black Bart" ran his ship very strictly and cleanly, crew members were not allowed to bring women back to the ship, lights out, and bedtime happened at a certain time, and if a crew member violated a woman without her consent he was flayed viciously. Pirates also generally wanted to have a good reputation amongst merchant ships. If a crew had a reputation of being friendly and merciful to ships that didn't fight back, then more ships would just surrender knowing they're going to be treated well. That meant less loss of life and less heat from countries' navies.
I'm hoping to see the New Republic by the end of the finale, and for At Attin to get a chance to decide what to do. They could be under the control of a pirate faction masquerading as the old Republic, and they might like it that way...
I wonder during the Galactic Civil War just how many of the BEST and MOST FEARED Rebel Alliance Officers and/or units are basically just Pirates that exchanged whatver they was wearing for Rank Insignias and standard uniforms of sorts an started flying Rebel/Republic colors an Symbols an basically just went on kicking Imperial Asses using that to further rub it in..?? Especially since heard some of them got good enough they was finally able to quit Piracy altogether an go legit. Though dunno if that means they exchanged Piracy for Trading, or becoming Bounty Hunters or someones idea of Security/Law Enforcement or what
I am possibly one of a few people who actually have fought real pirates. I worked on and later owned my own guard vessel ( security vessel, ship ) I have had encounters in multiple parts of the world while providing security for cargo ships and even private yachts escorting them in dangerous areas. It's not fun folks, it's very dangerous !
Can they really be pirates if none of them wear a straw hat? The Rebel privateer EF76 Far Orbit had a rebel officer onboard to make sure they honored the agreed terms for serving as a privateer
Legit haven’t watched this video yet but had to find a video to comment a random question. Is Rex force sensitive? I’m rewatching The clone wars for the 100th time it feels like. S5 E2 “a war on two fronts” at 8:10 he’s showing the rebels how to take down tanks. Not only does he do gymnastics on the barrel of the tank but then does a backflip off the top of an at least 10 foot drop and lands it.
No piracy was straight up caused by the community, not caring about its people and destroying them. That's the briefest bit of it, but piracy was seen to be a way to rise out of poverty and destruction that the current community created, or the current government created and as a way to fight. Back
Outside of Jedi stuff, since there are many worlds there are likely many antiquity stories. Since it’s not feasible to talk about each world I can see this is largely not discussed. Unless one world wanted to go conquer other worlds to spread their antiquity stories and force people to convert in the name of their antiquity story being superior and others being “myth”
It's a shame Ja is so greedy and is only looking for the huge score, instead of going for the bigger score or better. He could order the druids to fill his ship up with credits, and leave, or figure some way to take the kids with him on repeat trips so they don't blab, and just transport loads of credits to his frigate. Instead, he keeps trying to force the Droid authorities to go against their programming and let his frigate through. Something they cannot do. Now he basically going to have a confrontation with the one person who will see through his lies, and lose everything.
I know this is off-topic, but the way I see it, Wat Tambor's atrocities on Ryloph are kind of similar to what Saddam Hussein did in Kuwait. Both were ultimately slain by their own greed.
I really like the “Skeleton Crew” showing a whole different level of detail and depth to a great Franchise. ( it’s unfortunate because the Sequel Trilogy plus acolyte were so poorly written and executed that the great shows where over looked) one of my Favorite movies in Star Wars “Roque One”- ( not counting the Original Trilogy that’s the golden age of Star Wars) Silver Age was last two Prequels plus Clone wars ( animated series) by extension-Mando/Ahsoka/Rebels ) Now like The MCU- we get more Miss lately then Hits. But Andor and Skeleton Crew were hits ! Poor ratings… no one wants to watch ( What they hear as another useless show) which I think both shows will age well!
So civilization have been trying to discourage crime for thousands of years. So hole higher EDUCATION. Makes it seem like a new idea 💡 to teach people not to commit crime
I think there a lot more smugglers that out right pirates. With smuggling the goal moving cargo form point a to point b with out getting caught. So less risky than stealing cargo form merchant ship. every time pirates stole form merchant ship they hope the Marchant ship crew would not fight back. 2nd that they can get away before any government ship came. So life as pirate you never know when going to be your last day alive. Life as smuggler you are sure you are going to live the next day when in transit.
i really like how fans rationalize the bad writing in starwars stories :D i feel what fans really love about starwars is the potential, not the actual thing (not always, but a lot of times in the case of disney products) xD... don´t get me wrong, i do the same. That´s why andor is so great, it´s a series made in base to the potential of rogue one.
If the Rebels were pirates would that make private tears. They had no employers but they had political objectives. So they were most like John Paul Jones

“Big, fat, juicy, warm, profit!”
5:43 My mother told me, "Son! One hostage is good, two hostages is better, and three hostages? Well, that's just good business. Ha ha, thank you mama!"
Well, at least no Quarren became Davy Jones yet. Man, something similar to the Flying Dutchman on the galactic scale must be really scary.
Kragan Gorr from Reaiatance is Davy Jones of Star Wars to me
Being a pirate isn’t as glamorous as movies make them out to be. Especially for the pirate captain, you aren’t just constantly watching over your back from the law, but also from your own crew.
When you think about it piracy prob kept some companies from getting insanely rich (and prob a couple deaths along the way)
The story of Skeleton Crew reminds me of the Crimson Fleet storyline in Starfield. Pirate crews searching for a mythical treasure that can tip the balance of power in the galaxy
Thanks!
This is actually so helpful, I'm running a bounty hunter starwars rpg rn, and the primary antagonistic force is a group of piratwst
Man I've been looking for your channel for 5 years, used to watch all the time but forgot the name !!

Idr the name of the original pirate captain who went to At Attin successfully, but I bet he’s the current supervisor of the mint/at attin

You do a great job on combing earth history into a galaxy far far away.
Awesome video. Amazing content as usual. Love the comparisons with real pirates.
Bandits are rarely romanticized, but pirates are. And pirates are bandits with a ship.
Thanks for discussing how the history of realworld piracy informs Star Wars and other fantasy franchises.
And here I though Alan was going to address the exodus from Disney Plus yet everyone is still watching the latest episodes. Hondo approves!

I may have seen that guy ONCE. Man what a fever dream.
I thought piracy in Star wars started in Return of the Jedi with Jabba's crime business
Nah that was in Star Wars 1977 which wasn't a Pirate gang but a (un)official criminal enterprise. Jabba was akin to an italian mob boss.
please do an episode on clothing and fashion in the star wars universe ❤ from the utilitarian to the absurd, wtf is going on with their get ups

I'm hoping to see the New Republic by the end of the finale, and for At Attin to get a chance to decide what to do. They could be under the control of a pirate faction masquerading as the old Republic, and they might like it that way...
Bloody pirates! Oh, wait. I’m in the wrong universe. (Joke)
Space-Aaaargh!
Don't forget poor Captain Kidd, he had a Letter of Mark but unfortunately captured the wrong ship under the right flag and was hung for his trouble !
You can only pirate so much of an area
a game where you could play as a pirate in the star wars universe would be pretty dope
sweet more Pirate talk
I'm Captain, Captain Jack Sparrow 😎.
Darth Vader: Jobs Creator -- A Star Wars Story.

Buenos días podías hacer un vídeo de la corbeta clase vigilancia que con 255 metros y un armamento y CAZAS sería un buqué pirata impresionante
I always wondered: what are star wars equivalents of real world faiths?

Piracy will always be cool. Unless it's irl.
Now, Pirates are with different clothing.
