If you do an exact internet search for the following operations (which means putting each long phrase in quotation marks, such as “I am Groot”) you’ll find Chevrolet’s own Service Manual instructions:
Chevrolet Sonic Repair Manual: Engine Mount Replacement - Right Side
Chevrolet Sonic Repair Manual: Transmission Mount Replacement - Left Side
Chevrolet Sonic Repair Manual: Battery Tray Replacement
Chevrolet Sonic Repair Manual: Transmission Rear Mount Replacement

The three bolts into the transmission on trans side mount need to be replaced, 3 on engine mount engine side to engine bracket, need to be replaced. And the two on the lower trans mount also need to be replaced. GM decided to use all torque to yield bolts for anything touching the motor. Stupid as all hell to me. But the top bolts are m10*1.5*60mm same as trans top. Buy some grade 10 bolts and thick washers and screw the engineers. I haven't had the bottom lower trans bolt out to figure out it's size so can't help there, and no diagrams have it listed...

They also decided to require every standard and type of tool to do basic things. Torx, metric, the weired one to remove the coil pack and stuff on top of the engine, too tired to list the rest.
I tried to get aftermarket bolts but the homedepot didn't have the right one and ace was closing soon. Had to just reuse the old ones. I should grab some at Ace tomorrow. Really stupid I couldn't just Google the size bolts to buy to have them on hand when doing the job. Also the new mounts should just come with bolts. Feel like they're just inviting lawsuits.

I FOLLOWED YOU COMPLETEDLY & VERY MUCH APPRECIATE YOUR TUTORIAL, IT'S VERY DETAILED IN APPLICATION. I HAVE A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS: 1) TOOL ? T20 (2:16) OR T10 (10:56) (11:02) 2) HOLE ALIGNMENT @ 30:01- WAS'NT SHOWN.... DIFFICULTY ENCOUNTERED?? THANK YOU SO, SO MUCH, YOU'RE SAVING PEOPLE LOTS OF MONEY!!! • @crushrreviews
      @crushrreviews  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

I do apologize for the T-size mistake. Thx for pointing that out. The size you need is T-20. As for the part where I didn’t show the alignment of the hole in the lower transmission mount was because I had to pull the engine back with one hand to center the hole with the mount and so with limited space under there I accidentally blocked and knocked down the camera, so I just left that part out. But it’s just a matter of pulling the engine back as best you can with one hand to center the hole with the mount and quickly insert the bolt with the other hand. Remember the floor jack is supporting the engine, so it moves fairly easily with one hand.

      I also have a 2012 Sonic.
And notice my air filter housing was shaking like mad and making noise. And you're right I believe it's the passenger side motor mount right underneath the air intake.
You said the 2012 has a different type motor mount.
If you did this job yourself was this motor mount hard to remove. Because as you said it's different than other Sonics

@@stevel6634 its easy, just support the engine with something like wood and its 3 bolts on the engine side, 2 bolts and a nut on the body side. both styles bolt on the same. my air filter box was also making noise but it was just due to a missing grommet.

One thing I did notice in the video is that he is using his dominate left hand. If anyone is a right hand dominate, that person will have a hard time doing this because there is really not enough room if you are on the ground underneath the car when doing the back transmission mount.

    • @crushrreviews

Glad I could help you out. I appreciate you watching my video. Yes that lower mount is the easiest of all 3. You just need the car elevated on the front. I used a set of ramps. That’s all the clearance you need to get under there and remove the 2 bolts that hold that mount in place. Simply slide in the new one and bolt it back up like I show in the video.

I had watched several -- including one where the guy referred to his "TOYOTA Sonic" (!!!!), another which was 15 mins long of which 10 mins were of the guy trying to figure out the right socket size and one that was shot with a cell phone in the dark. None but yours dealt with changing the transmission mounts and of course you change all three -- one goes/going, the others are stressed and need to be changed out too. I am 70 years old and unfortunately I bought a 2012 Chevy Sonic new.
And I haven't stopped working on it since I've owned it.
I never had to change a motor mount on a car in my life.
My 2012 Chevy Sonic is a piece of crap the transmission went at $80,000 miles.
Now the motor is shaking like crazy and the motor mounts are gone.
I am so sick of this car.
Brand new the housing for the thermostat was cracked because it's made out of plastic. Every car they release they over tighten the plastic thermostat housing and cracked it.
There should have been a recall on this because everybody had the same problem.
I've never had a transmission go in any of my cars.
And I've never had a motor mount going any of my cars. And I'm 70 years old and owned a lot of cars. Chevy sucks
