Chuck Sipes was one of my idols when I was 16 years old. Also, his being an ex Marine was a plus.

I met Mike Katz when he guest posed at the Mr. Can Am in Watertown, New York in the late 70s/ early 80s. I have never seen a bodybuilder with such an enormous chest as Mike Katz. He also was very friendly and humble.

I attended the first 6 Mr Olympia contests in NYC and in 1967, though I was a big Harold Poole fan, when Sergio Oliva came out and hit his first pose ,which was a front lat spread, I said to myself, "Game Over" Thanks John for sharing.....

@@naturalolympia Yes it was and Sergio looked even better in 1969 when he beat Arnold. Arnold was also in terrific condition. Thanks again for bringing those sweet memories back.

@TheLusianPopa I agree with you 100%.. Sergio also had a great thick chest, but as you said, hadn't mastered the side pose.

Rick Wayne was an amazing bodybuilder, also a great Journalist writing for years for Muscle Builder/Muscle and Fitness!!
These days, our own JOHN HANSEN is the best on the scene- best interviews and bodybuilding history on TH-cam ever!!!

TheSpritz0 given how Rick was for so many years in the magazines and books he then seems to have disappeared completely from the BB scene. Such a pity, would love to have seen/heard him do some interviews/podcasts. I bet he would have some great information and stories to tell.

I collected comics when I was young. I sent away for the Joe Weider muscle building courses that were always advertised in all the comics back in the day. Don Howorth's pictures were all over the pages in the booklets. As a young teen I was in awe of him. A good looking guy, small waist, broad, broad shoulders, athletic looking, the guy had it all. At the time he was definitely better then Zane.. Howorth was a part of my childhood because when ever I worked out his physique was always my goal. Great memories bodybuilding as a kid in the 60-70's. Thanks John for blast from the past. Great channel, great video 👍💪

This was fantastic. Most people that are associated with the bodybuilding scene have no idea who Tony Carroll, or Harold Poole are. I had the pleasure of watching Sergio train at Duncan Y many times with big Lynous, and Mario Nieves was just a young kid. Bodybuilding has made so many changes. I still think those days were some of the best.
So glad you have a great collection of film and photos. Thank you so much for the post.

NICE HISTORY of the 67 Mr. Olympia. That was 'our era'. BUT every one of these competitors, not just the winners, was on steroids, as they admitted in later post-retirement interviews, albeit miniscule doses compare to the present day chemical clown show that is the IFBB/NPC.

Many of Vince's boys were winning loads of titles in this year.
Had no idea Rick Wayne sang as part of contest warm up shows.
I'm sure that footage, if it exists, would be very difficult to find.
