I like how open everything is. All the windows are nice and make the school feel more spacey. My school doesn't have windows because it's too big, so all the windows are reserved for offices, and our color scheme is red and black, which is awful for everyone's aura lol. Anger and death
These people (in the comment section) watched too much anime so they wanting to live there. I bet you don't even understand how school system in Japan works or how much work you have to deal with. learn the difference between reality and cartoon. I started my school in Asia, i assume Japanese school is similar as any other School in the East Asia, i also continued my school life in Europe, it was totoally different experience. School in Europe is much more chill, many breaks, less strict and less work and you don't have to spend almost half a day at school like we did.
Actually anime only exaggerates a tiny bit ( I know how school works in Japan), Portraying high school is easy because the creator most likely experienced it first hand
@@projects520 I'd agree, and as someone who has friends doing the JET Programme as well as speaking with a transfer student at my school here in the states, things aren't TOO much different in anime as it is in real school. Now of course every day isn't always sunny and ethereal, but most of the same concept applies. And I'm not going to criticize OP for calling anime "cartoons", but I'd watch something like Another, Shiki, or Attack on Titan before calling anime a cartoon, because I find it hard to compare blood and gore to that of Chowder or Regular Show.
Here in Canada, more specifically western canada our school system is made just to simply flush you in and out. Japanese schools feel less temporary, like a place you go and enjoy more so (or made to feel) that's why they have more school activities and clubs and all that kind of stuff. For me its pretty much go to school 9am-3pm 5 days a week, with occasional days off and seasonal breaks. After school I typically go to work, or hang out with friends. Both systems seem like it would take time getting used to, but also once familiar would feel quite natural. 12 years of school then moving onto secondary does seem pretty easy if you ask me :) and being able to take courses your interested in will also make things a lot funner.
I'm really surprised at your school hours, I live in America (although only ten minutes away from the Canadian border) and the school hours are from 7:00am-2:30pm, but can go longer depending on if you do afterschool clubs and stuff. You're right about the Japanese schools feeling more home-like, I never noticed it before! :o
Anime Central .Personal Try having an 8-420 schedule plus dual enrollment for two more hours. Plus my school has over 20 different clubs and over five sports. We have this pseudo major we pick before 9th grade (say you are interested in chemical biology or graphic arts, you'll sign up for that major and be enrolled in related classes for all your time) and it's designed to prepare you for university. Your schedule sounds like a breeze and I'd gladly switch with you.
I completely agree with you. I happen to be a fan of anime, but I don't let that interfere with my image of Japan. I really appreciate the beauty and complexity of the culture and I am really eager to learn more about it, so I can have a better understanding, and one day it's my dream to visit. This fall I'm taking a Japanese language course in college and I'm really excited not just to learn the language, but about the culture. Some anime fans/foreigners give us all a bad name
Nine months ago I watched this video because it was in the related videos of some 80s music (I dont know why lol) But I also applied to be an exchange student with YFU Japan after watching all your videos and I got a scholarship to go!This inspired me to become an exchange student and now I'm just counting down the days until my departure! My point is to say this was not a waste of time for me and thanks for sharing videos of your exchange because it changed my life I'm sure there are others too!
what I find interesting is how CLEAN everything is . the hall and the outside . I am mid 50's y old , grew up in Germany and been in the united states now for close to 30 years and I can tell you that's how german classes and schools were back then - orderly and clean and you showed respect . thank you very much for this video . brings back long forgotten memories .
I'd always want to do an exchange program and go to Japan. I just want to go there and see what it's like, yes, I watch anime I wouldn't do it for just that. Japan's schools take stuff VERY seriously but have fun things like clubs :D
Wow, I wish I lived in Japan, their customs seem so polite :) (like taking off their shoes before they enter a house and bowing) I'd love to go to Japan one day :)
i want to go to school in japan so badly I'm going into freshman year now and i have always admired japan i am so jealous. I hope one day i can go to school there for collage. I am trying to learn japan on my own right now and i hope I'm doing well. お時間をありがとうございました!
You are so chill, I love how you adapted so well to the life there. It shows a lot in your attitude. Plus, you come off as extremely friendly. And lastly, you are really cute.
I have had a chance to visit elementary, junior & senior high schools around Tokyo & Kyoto for 12 days in July 2006. I had leart a lot of their advance school system. Bravo Japan!
how did you get accepted in a japanese highschool? there is 1 in Ct USA but im wondering if you have to also speak japanese and understand their langauge even if your english cuz next year i have to pick a high school to go to i need help please answer me :-)
This is a really cool video to see your school. I knew the Japanese school year is different than an American one (start in April end in March, summer break is usually late July until September, winter break starts around December 24th etc). It was actually interesting to learn that there is a summer school for the smart kids too.
omg i'm jelly, my school is crap, only reason still people in it is because you can litterally get a 10/10 by studying during the 10 minute break and sleeping during class...
It is actually. The style of the school is just like what you see in anime, inside and the outside. Same with their uniforms, it's exactly what you would see in an anime. I don't know what your talking about, really. Everything is basically the same except for a a few things. You can't relate reality to a fictional show either.
wat r u talking abt? it's exactly what it is in anime. I've obsessed with anime and sometimes i thought it was just anime before i watched this. there's anime in my country also but it's like nothing, it's fictional and uninspiring. This one on the other hand should be where all of the craziness were invented into anime. Japan schools are amazing.
I feel sad that my own High School life has just ended, I would have loved experiencing it in different countries, Japan being at the top of the list! The structure of the schools there that I have seen are very interesting. You are lucky! :)
that's so cool that you went to nago koko! i miss okinawa! i used to be a JET in motobu about 15 yrs ago (i'm old, haha) but i wanted to show my son schools in japan so i appreciate your videos. ganbatte ne!
I know this is an older video but thank you so much for posting it! Your school seems really cool and you seem happy to be there which is even better. I will be moving to Japan soon and your video has me even more excited to go! Thanks again!
Why are the students so nice to them there....if i was an exchange student in america right now they'd pick on me for being bi-racial df.......confusing as hell////
I seriously went "wooooooaaaahhh!" when you walked into that little place for the vending machines! Total vending machine heaven! It may be hot there but at least they've got every beverage imaginable :)
It was hilarious how avid you were when talking about the vending machines and as soon as that group of girls came you were like.. yeah.. lets go... Thanks for sparing you, us and them the awkwardness
Oh it's been years since i saw this video ! Brings back good memories ( i guess lol) Not a weeb here School in Japan is not anime It's super strict But summer school is usually more relaxed (from what i've heard in the past ) Nice random throwback i guess
You could totally tell both by the name of the video and the vid-pic that this was what the contents were. I came, I saw and I enjoyed the video and her japanese-like enthusiasm tyvm.
DANG!! that was So cool!! ^__^ I hope too go too Japan one day! :) thanks for showing me some of the culture and whatnot really quite amazing. Loving those vending machines & the positivity there.
From my part of Asia the people are nice like that. They are all hospitable and don't refuse guests. We are very open to anyone and winters can be harsh. Miss Asia -3
Nice to see some breakdance in the background there! :P And uh, Also, When you were walking down the stairs, it reminded me of the anime another... Please don't walk down the stairs with an umbrella...
Very neat! I'd like to do an exchange myself -- probably one of the month-long ones that I can do through 4-H though, not a year long one -- and I'm learning Japanese right now in preparation. I've asked my parents, and they haven't immediately shot down the idea yet, so I have a chance, but even if they say no I still want to learn it! :)
Your Japanese school is very similar to one I used to work in when I lived in Korea. Looking at this video makes me wish that I had made a video of the school I worked at while living there.
Hi, I'm looking into studying abroad in Japan over summer vacation with YFU. Do you know if there are any current YFU programs offered that allow you to study at a high school? So far I can only find programs where you stay with a host family without going to school.
I really liked your video, and I find it sooo awesome! that you live there and that you learned at a japanese school....I kind of envy you, but still, you really have charisma! ^_^
Duuude, I'm a senior in high school but I'd love to do high school again for just one more year to be a transfer student in Japan. I barely speak the language but I love the culture. And I'd love to experience that culture hands on.
Lol, that sucks, I'm gonna learn Japanese after summer, it's a special program for it and at the end of it (3 years) we'll go to Japan and go to their schools for like 2 weeks, I'm super excited! ^_^ Hope you'll visit Japan anyway when you have the chance c:
We have summer programs for smart kids in my town too. I was supposed to be one of them, but it took up from when you get out of school to August and my immediate thought was no, because it takes up your whole summer.
Our school doesn't even let us go outside. I want to be an exchanged student now! I would love to know how you learned Japanese and how hard it was for you!
Canadian schools aren't that boring!I'm British-Canadian,but I had to leave Canada when I was six to the US,so I never got the chance to go to St.Mary's,the high school my older sister went to!I always wanted to go, and for a time after we moved,I would insist that when I turned fifteen,I was going to go back to Canada and study at St.Mary's.Now I REALLY want to study in Japan, however I do miss Canada often. So don't say it's boring,I never got to go to high school there even though I wanted to!
thanks so much for videoing this. you have made me and many otakus, yet to go to japan, so very happy. seeing the very familiar anime school setting in real life made me so giddy. those vending machines made me jizz.
oh! it was a nice video about japanese school i wiished i can come back there soon i really missed japan... by the way... where are u living in japan??? what school is that? thats all and i want to see a part2 of this video....
Wow, I really liked the vlog video, I would like to do an exchange in Japan but I don't think they will let me, I would like to do it and do you know which international associations or organizations there are to do exchanges in Japan or in a other country without doing a scholarship?
How do you sign up to be exchanged in Japan?!? I totes want to do that xD. I was thinking that once I get into high school I would spend a summer in Japan, then realizing sometimes they have summer school, like what you're doing. It's kinda sad though because summer break is only a few weeks there. And I didn't really want to be in a big city, but rather an average sized city Dx... What city did you go to?? And how did you sign up?
Seems like so much fun to go to school in Japan... I'd love to go, except I can't speak Japanese (not as fluently as I speak English anyway) T_T The people there all seem so friendly and polite!
See, in my city, if you take summer school, it means it's because you failed.
People don't get that option here.
US, The state of Pennsylvania
Ohh, I see.
I can't do summer school. I need the social Interaction.
We can do summer school to finish highschool earlier in the USA. I guess just your city doesn't do it. Texas sure does.
Chocomunchie
So does Nebraska
I like how open everything is. All the windows are nice and make the school feel more spacey. My school doesn't have windows because it's too big, so all the windows are reserved for offices, and our color scheme is red and black, which is awful for everyone's aura lol. Anger and death
This is almost every anime watcher's dream

It isn't like the anime's at all ._.

Wow. Thanks for the tour of the school. I think it's so interesting how different japanese schools are from american schools. :)
OMG...so cool! My friend Yuki is from Okinawa :))) and she was in Texas for a year with YFU exchange program :)
Your Japanese school is very similar to one I used to work in when I lived in Korea. Looking at this video makes me wish that I had made a video of the school I worked at while living there.

Seeing videos here on TH-cam from American Exchange students in Japan are very interesting, makes me want to go to japan when I enter college.
Duuude, I'm a senior in high school but I'd love to do high school again for just one more year to be a transfer student in Japan. I barely speak the language but I love the culture. And I'd love to experience that culture hands on.
The stairs at 2:35 look like the ones from one episode in Mischievous Love: Tokyo
OMG! Im not the only one that noticed!
Leticia Cortes I'm just a huge fan on all things Japanese and I noticed that.
Lol, that sucks, I'm gonna learn Japanese after summer, it's a special program for it and at the end of it (3 years) we'll go to Japan and go to their schools for like 2 weeks, I'm super excited! ^_^ Hope you'll visit Japan anyway when you have the chance c:

by the way... where are u living in japan??? what school is that?
thats all and i want to see a part2 of this video....
Wow, I really liked the vlog video, I would like to do an exchange in Japan but I don't think they will let me, I would like to do it and do you know which international associations or organizations there are to do exchanges in Japan or in a other country without doing a scholarship?
thinking about going to japan to learn but this is an example of school that sometimes i want to go.
what exchange program did you use ? i can't seem to find a good one. please do tell:)
I wish my mom would realize what an awsome country Japan is and let us move there
How do you sign up to be exchanged in Japan?!? I totes want to do that xD. I was thinking that once I get into high school I would spend a summer in Japan, then realizing sometimes they have summer school, like what you're doing. It's kinda sad though because summer break is only a few weeks there. And I didn't really want to be in a big city, but rather an average sized city Dx... What city did you go to?? At first i only wanted to because of anime/manga, but I started looking into Japan more and I fell in love with it!
Seems like so much fun to go to school in Japan... I'd love to go, except I can't speak Japanese (not as fluently as I speak English anyway) T_T
The people there all seem so friendly and polite!
How were you able to study abroad? is there a certain thing you have to do in order to be able to?
So summer school is for the smart kids..... isn't that a bit backwards.....?
Those fucking perfect school uniforms.
That happy friendship.
That fluent Japanese.
That long flowing mysterious hair.
*gross sobbing*
When you go there do you have someone escort you or like translate things for you? just asking cuz i really want to go really bad
