  • Today we are doing Unique Units in Eu4. There are a lot of them these days, but thankfully its not gotten completely out of hand. Honestly they are all better then nothing (excluding Marines) so should be used, non are inherently bad, just relatively.

    I think that marines are heavily underrated because people dont understand how brutal the attrition to sea modifier is. Losing 60k in a battle is very easy to understand and will probably make you look at your manpower right away. "One more of these and im done". Guess what also costs 60k mapower. transferring 100k from london to new york and back. If youre playing any european and want to do shenanigans in the indian ocean marines are pretty much a necessity

    • @afridge8608
      @afridge8608 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      Oh also portugal doesnt have 100% marines like engerland but they do have 75% (10 from gov reform and 15 from naval doctrine) same as spain (25 from doctrine) and portugal also has ordenacas decision which gives 2 years of manpower and sailors every 5 years so its kinda like extra 40% manpower and marine recovery rate (its better because it stacks multiplicatively with other recovery buffs). Yes it triggers only for provinces close to the capital but the rest are trade companies with giga autonomy anyways plus you get a good monument in lisbon to help. And of course the shock damage is bad but what they offer me is access to the entire world and i can just choose to invade someone with weaker tech

    • @LemonCake101
      @LemonCake101  หลายเดือนก่อน +31

      That is pretty true in fairness, but usually you don't want to do those shenanigans in most campaigns. I do agree that the no attrition at sea buff can be underrated, its just rarely useful.

      +5% discipline does not come from the "New War Steed" event. 5% discipline comes from the "Regimental Discipline" estate privilege. At 100% Influence, the entire army receives a 5% discipline bonus. Moreover, if you can increase the influence above 100%, you can get more bonuses. I was able to obtain 10.5% permanent discipline from this privilege.

    • @Xhristan

    The Cawa is S tier.
    Cawa cost 2 Mil points ... but they also spawn as 500, which means you do in fact have near limitless "manpower" with them, you can pay 80 mil points to make a 20K army spawning out of nowhere.
    By abusing this, you can't even lose as Ethiopia, you can keep fighting endlessly early game, beating the mameluks and ottomans by 1480 is easy, and Aksum is an okay tag to world conquest with thanks to the 15% war score cost and other modifiers, fighting endlessly also comboes well with some of the jewish aspects if you go for that faith.

    I'm not entirely sure if this is meant to be exclusively an mp thing or if sp uses apply as well, but one use case I've found for marines that felt pretty good was starting as a small island nation and being a pirate republic. In my ryukyu game where I first considered it I was basically running a perpetual deficit and using the raiding to prop up my advisors, and realized that I have a pool of manpower that is far beyond the size that any nation of my size should actually be able to maintain in the form of raided sailors. Being able to conserve manpower on say sieges, or being able to build over force limit without needing to merc up and risk burning through my raiding money faster than is managable felt really useful to me.

    I feel like marines can be good they’re very situational but when conquering Polynesia they help with the island hopping and if you’re up in MP against someone who memed their coastlines into impenetrable fortresses they can help, but one more thing is not a lot of people play it but if you have random new world it can be absolutely fractured sometimes so having them really helps with all the naval transport and small island hopping you might end up doing

They arent great, technically worse than your average units, but they make up for it by not putting a strain on your manpower. Semi-naval nations like Spain, France, Italians and India could totally profit from this.

      There is the 15% from the parlamentary issue, 25% as japan with a tier 5 diplo advisor, 25% from the roman empire government reform, 20% as hussite, 50% from two buddhist monumuments, tiwi and kitara get 25% in their ideas and many other nations like karaman and kongo get 10%, if I recall correctly there is a hindu monument that grants 15% cccr too, normal theocracies get 30%, byzantium gets 20% from their government reform also, and a church estate priviledge grants 10%. Most nations can get to 90% without the use of the adjacency bonus:3

    • @regularname1825
      @regularname1825 หลายเดือนก่อน

      after looking at the wiki... I was wrong the hindu monument gives only 10%, also persia gets 5% from its mission tree, the eastern monuments(borobodur temple and buddahastatues) accept all eastern faiths and interestingly also the buddhadharma fetishist cult, japan gets 25% from its mission tree and shintoism gives 15% at level 3 isolationism.
      the fraternité government reform available for revolutionary countries also gives 20%...
      the best religions for culture conversion are:
      shintoism with 15+50 = 65%
      hinduism with 10+50 = 60%
      confucianism, all buddhist faiths and fetishism = 50%
      hussite = 20%
      zoroastrianism = 10%
      [you might also consider the church estate in this category which would add an extra 10% cccr to any country with the clergy estate]
      taking all of this into account I will now list some good candidates to reach max culture conversion with:
      Japan can easily gets 90% without even taking religious ideas (which might still be a good idea considering the fact that shinto is a very tiny religion) with 15% from shintoism + 25% from mission tree and 50% from the eastern monuments
      Generic theocracies, revolutionary republics and byzantium can reach 30% from government reforms+ 25% from religious ideas + 15% from parliament/ religious-influence policy + 10% from church estate
      Rome can gets an extra 5% in government reforms (sadly there is no roman theocracy so the limit is 35% from government reforms)
      keep in mind that normal monarchies and republics have only 10% from government reforms so you'll need either to rely on enlightenment or on the adjacency bonus or switch to a religion that gives cccr like hussite (might be more viable for europeans) otherwise the limit is 85% (I guess the persian mission tree comes in clutch with that 5% if you are playing as persia)
      another, more devious candidate might be kitara.... "what's that?" you might say, well it's a formable country available to the countries around the lake victoria area (aka with rwandan, ugandan etc culture). Kitara gets 25% from it's national ideas which is great but nowhere near enough to 90%. Except that kitara is a fetishist nation and, with the buddhadharma cult they can access the eastern monuments granting them 50% cccr and now there are many ways to reach 90% (parliament, religious ideas or government reforms)
      I hope that you've enjoyed my Ted Talk on efficient racism and I wish you reader a great day.

    Wing hussars are meh. Yes they are very strong, but u can only get not a lot of them. Lets say u need 40. Its 4000 dev of polish culture. I actually never seen 4000 dev poland. Because of this they are maximum B.

      You say 4k dev, but you can get % buffs to them. Granted not too many, but its doable, and you can get +6 flat too from an estate privalege. Yes, it's your elite core units, but they make up for it with their over the top quality.

      @@larochejaquelein3680 and also. I did the math. Lets say u need 4000 dev. Normal poland is around 100 provs. I mean lands of lithuania, poland, creamia, orders. U will need to conquer a little more but its fine. So 30 dev in every province. And dont forget to culture convert. Even so u may think its good. My opinion hussars are to little to affect much.

      No for sure, that's why I kind of addressed it while ranking. It's a weird one for sure, as most others are tag restricted though while that one is heavily time restricted.

    Ngl disagree with a lot of your takes 😂 banners in S when theyre based on culture group not FL so they dont scale at all? Kinda weird ngl. Cossacks being so low when theyre independent of most reqs for other units and can be used by tons of nations? Bruh.

    • @LemonCake101
      @LemonCake101  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Banners are actually good though in terms of their modifiers, and cossacks have some of the weakest buffs as units. If you do a culture conversion build you can easily run 200k/300k banners assuming proper mp devving etc
      In SP I find quality buffs pretty worthless

    • @Caesar--
      @Caesar-- 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @LemonCake101 culture converting en masse is terrible unless u have a bunch of modifiers which require you to alter your entire build around tho. Also proper mp deving would be deving in china since so much of it is farmlands etc not manchuria with its shitty terrains. Cossacks dont deserve s or whatever but i think theyre definitely higher for me simply because so many people can use them which makes em very versatile. Plus u can use them alongside other special units

      @@Caesar-- ngl adjacency and picking up religious is already a 50% discount: culture conversion cost is pretty stackable, and you also tend to see a lot of MP mods encourage it through dev cost in primary culture being seeing as as a more balanced version of dev cost

      @LemonCake101 most mp mods are horrifically balanced i dont take them into account tbh lmao. The communities are also corrupt asf and implement changes based on whims and complaining not actual evidence or data
