Cool stuff, Shawn. Also just want to say that your channel is the absolute best. Thanks very much for everything you do, dude. Toontrack should give you a medal or something.

Good advice. I started from the very first EZDrummer with the original Pop Rock kit. I much prefer the snare sounds in EZ2 than the core library of EZD3. Happy New Year Shawn!

I began with SD3 since circa two weeks and found your channel a week ago or so and subscribed. You have very good material and explain very well. This video is gold, too, I would have never thought in the value that the very old packs have in the midi they include. I can tell too, having some amateur experience in DAW and in mixing techniques, that the way SD3 is built and organized is very intuitive and friendly. They found the way to handle complicated things in a very clear and easy way. The guys behind the interface programming seem to have some formation in didactic. I simply just can’t believe I am able to easily find all I need. And for the still hidden things your videos are of super immense help.

Thanks for the heads up on this value/deal. Picked it up on the holiday sale based on your tip. The 2 bar avg was a little surprising, so glad you pointed out that to set expectations. Still an amazing deal to build a library.

Great video thanks, I might have to grab that pop/rock expansion , I've been using SD and EZD with logic's drummer track, it's functions work pretty well to adjust the midi tracks.

I'm gonna have a guy on the stream to talk about that integration sooner than later. He stands by that workflow as well.

That is the thing about upgrading to the newer version of the software. The carry over of all your old midi files. I still have the Cocktail midi from the first version of EZ Drummer.

I wish they would sell the Cocktail kit as an EZX.

    Thank you sir.
I just went and grabbed this on sale as soon as you gave the tip.
As a P.S, do you happen to know why EZkeys expansions come with ZERO midi?
    Thank you.

You got it!. Only EZKeys2 generation EKX packs come with midi. SO do read the descriptions before buying.

Streaming first Saturday of every month: www.youtube.com/@ShootieSchool/live A NOTE about SDX/EZX Midi file count could be as low as 200 all of the way up to 1000. I average them saying 500. Specifically Electronic type EZXs can be as low as 30. Thomannmusic always beats Toontrack prices on Toontrack products. I was unscripted in this video and forgot to mention it.

"Drum Kit From Hell" has a lot of what I might call building block fundamental sort of grooves. I just checked the site to see if it lists a count. I don't see one if it does but it seems like the 2nd largest collection that I know of. Its endless very usable stuff and great to practice along with.
    Happy holidays!

It's midi collection is super unique if you have the patience to go through it. Hope you had a great holiday, Steven!!

@@ShootieSchool Totally. I am thinking because I can't experience this yet) that if a person is fast enough on the groove editor they could make most of this DFH collection more quickly than rolodexing through them. I tend to grab one at random when I just want to practice or riff noodle for 15 minutes (may be a bad habit actually). Serendipity rules!
I remember DFH advertisements long before I knew at all what any of this software was about, so my guess is that back then when there were fewer options, a collection like this was like getting a big bucket of Legos for Christmas with no instructions.

No matter how big the MIDI packs or sound expansions are, there are also patterns or drum parts that are not included in any pack.
For this purpose, I bought an electronic drum kit a few years ago so that I could record these parts myself if I couldn't get them anywhere.
I will never be a drummer, but since it's MIDI, you can slowly record the drums. It's better than programming the drums, because that way you've recorded the human inaccuracies, even if you then have to quantize some of them.

    • @ShootieSchool

I'm a hand programmer myself. A foundation of midi as a starting point speeds me up so much I consider it a savings. I've got a finger pad & ekit when I'm in the mood as well though. And physically playing really helps you learn to produce drums, so good on you.
The majority of the market is midi pack only though. That's just how it is.

@@ShootieSchool Only a week ago I recorded with the e-drum set in SD§ because the rhythm didn't exist.
In SD3 and EZD3 you can also search online at toontrack for packs that you don't have yet. Toontrack didn't have the rhythm that I had in mind at first.
