Good topic. I grew up in a black church in a mainly white neighborhood. My best friend is black and is gay. We’re together always from junior through college. He dated black and Latino men. Most of my partners when I was younger were white. Never felt fetishized but don’t forget that fetishes is a two way street. I’ve been in interracial relationship for 30 years. We do have a lot in common but our differences didn’t pull us apart, rather makes it more interesting for me. I for one like learning other cultures and from that I have a better understanding of other people. We’re not taught every culture in school and most don’t know other folks in their own neighborhoods. We shouldn’t look down on questions because we don’t everything about everyone. Our relationship has worked with the support of both families. Both sides are family oriented which in a relationship makes it that more special.
Just within the 1st few minutes I can already see there is already misinformation surrounding Nationality, race, and ethnicity. "Black" as a racial term denotes a person with sub Saharan African roots. This means a Dominican that is not mixed and is dark skinned with kinky hair and African features is Black. So if an African American were to date this fictional person, it would not be interracial. The difference here between the Africa American and this Dominican are ethnicity (genetic makeup ) and Nationality (country they were born in + culture). So I'm going to watch for a few more minutes to see if you all get it together... It's not that hard. Also I disagree with the whole "whatever you identify as agrument." A person that is hispanic like JLo is not Black but Amara La Negra is....there's a difference. If a JLo comes up to me saying she's and Afro Latina or she's Black...it's over for me im not taking anything you say seriously. Edit: im at the 30 minute mark and the convo definitely took a more interesting turn. However, fetishization I feel like is not always cut and dry. Someone expressing interest in another person based on their "exotic" facial features or skin tone can be just that, admiration for someone who you aren't used to seeing or just looks visually interesting. There is certain language that a person can use to indicate sole sexual gratification based on racial phenotype but until thats is explicitly said than it's just admiration. I feel like that's how the guy on the left sees it. I think we have to ask ourselves if I was another race would this person be as sexually attracted to me? What is the root of their attraction to me? Is it only sexually? Those answers reveal intent and is its actual fetishization.
Actually, race is also a made up social construct. A black Dominican is just a Dominican. We Hispanics do not see blacks (from our own country) as being black. They are Hispanics with a different color. Growing up in a Hispanic country, I learned from an early age that Hispanics are a mix of European, Native, and Blacks. We were raised to see ourselves as a mix. We don't see each other as being more of one race or the other. Like, I wouldn't look at a very dark Dominican and think he is from a different "race". IDK if that makes sense to you. In any event, going back to the question about a Black and a Dominican being an interracial couple or not, as a Hispanic IMO I would count it as interracial because when people think interracial they are thinking really inter-ethnic/inter-cultural and I think that hispanics and african americans have pretty different cultural references.
@@JoseReyes-ov2tu I just now read your comment in full. So I'll say this: 1. Race, nationality, and ethnicity are all "made up" concepts. However, they are clearly defined and have clear definitions with real-world implementations. So no, you don't just get to pick and choose what race is because culturally (according to what you said) Dominicans don't practice or think if race "the same way". Which may be true in a day to day sense, but you all know what race is. There was a study released about what Dominicans racially identify as Look it up. 2. I understand near perfectly how due to colonialism, a country such as the Dominican Republic, your people are highly mixed race. So, if everyone is pretty racially mixed, you all look at skin color or features as opposed to race. 3. Your response in your last paragraph is not accurate. Racial classification is not about how we feel. I don't say this to be crass or to say this concept isn't flawed or isn't inherently racist. However, it has rules to it. A Dominican and African American getting together is not inherently an interracial union. It is intercultural because we come from 2 different cultures. If I, an African American, get with a Dominican that is clearly and visible more Black/ African, that is not an interracial relationship. As opposed to if I got with a Dominican that is more genetically Native. I am not Native and they wouldn't be Black, so we are 2 separate races. Again, I personally don't think this is a hard concept to grasp. People tend to just say how they feel as opposed to using definitions and concepts that are already created.
@@KnijMagz Hi. Thanks for reading my response. Race is a social construct. The human race is on a continuum. Don't confuse genetics with anthropologic measures. How people look often says nothing about their genetics. You could date someone who looks black but is in fact a good mix of 30% european, 30% native and 30% black. As an "african american" you wouldn't share much genetically with a Dominican. In fact, I would bet money that you are far more distant than you imagin. In science there is a shift to move away from race to ethnicity because ethnicity captures better those genetic differences. Dominicans are a different Ethnic group than African Americans. Personally, I don't think they are the same "race", but even if you thought they were, you have to admit they are a different Ethnic group. And thus, the concept remains that a Dominican (from the DR) dating a Black (from say Atlanta) would be in fact in a interracial relationship, even if both are pretty dark to begin with. They speak a different language, have totally different cultures, and would need to work just as hard in communicating as a more classic "interracial" couple would. Even if you see them as the same race, for all intent and purposes they share more in common with a classic interracial couple than they do with a non-interracial couple (say, two black guys from Georgia).
Before discussing this matter, I think the group 1st to know the difference between nationality and ethnicity. I’m an American because I was born in America. I’m African Because my ethnicity and phenotypes… Maybe as sociology major should’ve been asked to join the discussion
I think they are aware of the difference between Nationality and Ethnicity, but your definition of the term ethnicity is redundant as you used the term ethnicity in your definition. What I believe you were trying to convey is Nationality refers more to citizenship in a country wherein Ethnicity speaks to a person's cultural identity and characteristics to include among other things ancestry.
is it matter wich color the man has?????? love has no color....love has no ethnicity ...love doesn't know all about is.....love knows one thing: the energy from each one...is it worth ist or not..... of course black gay man are attractive (to me)...but the love likes to be cuddled , no mater where you come from
Right! I remember him from a previous video, they did years ago, and even then...he was very combative or I should say, always playing the "devils advocated". But in a weird way, glad he's on there because he provides a different point of view.
Just because we all black doesn’t mean that we all fill the same and view thing threw the same way and what we have experience also play apart. Don’t shit on someone because they are not speak the same experience you have just because we are all black. Listen , learn and grown from the information. Just because I’m black don’t mean I will always understand and or experience the same things just because we share the same skin color. We love to say use the narrative I can’t date him because I don’t want to explain everything to him. There are a lot of guys I haven’t met that are black they had to explain things to met because I didn’t know what they was talking or what do your friends or family do certain things. Along with with anyone family house you walk into your have to learn how they family does thing no matter what there Race is black, white , Latino, asian or even a person from that’s from Africa. The excuse. I don’t want to explain is said but wondering why there so many single people because of a lack of communication. Let’s do better we all have to explain thing when we dating on why family do different things rather you the same race or other race.
I wasn’t gonna comment but I was like why not! Why are “BLACK PEOPLE” so obsessed with white or non black people and interracial dating ? As a mixed person myself I understand to a point but I’ve NEVER seen any other ethnic group starving and debating to date out of their own ethnic group like black people especially men gay or straight damn slavery must have done a toll on you people I’m speaking also as a European person from a country way more racial than America love yourselves!!!
dovemendez3132 lol, you’re speaking also as a European person, lol, you’re not a European person, you’re simply a bi-racial person. Meaning that you’re MIXED with African blood and European blood. You’re not even an American much less know what you’re talking about. furthermore you have a last name of Mendez which means also that you’re NOT Black American aka African American simply put you’re not black, you’re not our people, you’re not American, you’ll NEVER know what it means to be BLACK much less Black American. Likewise Slavery absolutely has NOTHING to do with this. It’s also the MIXED breed that think that they’re black and that they can SPEAK for Black American(s). And for the love of God just STOP comparing another Country with the USA because what YOU had experienced in that country and you’re around an demographic of INTERRACIAL couples and diverse ethnic group of people isn’t something to applied to the USA experience and in another country at that, lol. What YOU had experience mainly being bi-racial is completely DIFFERENT with Black American(s). Plus you’re Afro Hispanic and NOT black, you’re NOT European, you’re NOT African, you’re NOT anything but Bi-Racial rather that Afro Caribbean, Afro Hispanic, or Afro something else, but for certainly you’ll NEVER be Black American aka African American, African, or even European simply put you’ll NEVER be BLACK. Just stay in your lane and focus on non American things and non black folks and keep our ancestors out of your mouth, because that type of disrespect/slick comment about slavery that absolutely has NOTHING to do with anything, you’ll never make such comments towards Black American(s) aka African American(s) in the United States of America (USA) just ONLY in the COMFORT of TH-cam and other social media platforms, people like YOURSELF has courage, maybe it’s the European side that’s coming OUT of you, I don’t know, but the slavery part is something that Bi-Racial people tend to role play in the the PRIVACY of y’all “bedroom” with y’all European counterparts. P.S. 99.99% of Black Americans do love ourselves and we DON’T “need” an Afro Hispanic, non black person, that’s Bi-Racial, OUTSIDE of the USA, telling Black Americans to LOVE OURSELVES. 😂😂😂😂

Hi I love ur platform, I am gay , a bottom and I am into white guys I love them when they are slim , their body is so delicious to me , I do prefer a white guy like that , but by frist gay experience was with a slim black dude but to me a white dude is better on commitment and know how to get in with me as I get into him in our relationship
