  • Today I am sowing more seeds; Foxgloves are both biennials but also sometimes hardy perennials. Sow in the summer or autumn for strong plants that produce masses of flowers the following season.
    It’s difficult to know how to express myself on social media when there is so much sorrow and devastation in the world we live in, particularly in Ukraine. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Ukraine.

    I love foxgloves. I got wild ones. They natural pest repellants and beneficial insects like bees and humming birds attracting too. Pretty purples, whites and pink colors or mixes and hardy beautiful flowers.💜

      Yes, foxgloves are stunning and so easy to grow - mine are super-tall this year - probably all the rain we had 🤣

    Thank you Annette, having a go at planting my own foxgloves. Got a mixed packet of soft pale colours and white. I want to surprise a friend who is doing a green and white garden, much of it in pots, with some white foxgloves seedlings 😊🐞🦋🐝🌾

    I sowed seeds in fall by sprinkling them all over a large area of my garden now I have literally hundreds of seedlings that are about 4-6 inches wide this spring. I don't know if they will bloom this year but I am so excited. I did pot up some of them so I can put them where I like in my garden. I am always careful to wear gloves and not plant them in my backyard where my dogs play. Zone 6, Canada Have you ever planted them in pots?

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Kate, that sounds fantastic - what a brilliant result. I planted some in patio pots last year but they were the shorter varieties and I won't do it again because I didn't feel that they bloomed for long enough - they were over and done before summer was over and I need my patio pots to perform well into autumn!

      Do you remember when in the fall did you planted these seed? I am in zone 6 and wondering when it is the best to do what you did :)

    Opposite for me, the foxglove I have in full sun grow stronger and faster

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oooh. That's interesting. I guess flowers tend to do well if they are given more sun but foxgloves are one of those flowers that will bloom well in shade too.

    Thank you for the video. How often do you need to water planted seeds? Does soil need to stay moist?

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there, when the seeds are germinating, they do need to stay moist. I find the best way is to keep a clear plastic cover on the seed tray. Good luck. 😊

      Hi Bella, here in the UK, you can usually find them at Homebase. These ones, specifically are the brand Plantpak. Hope this helps. 🌱

      Thank you Kathrine. I can't remember where to get the pelleted seeds from. It's usually just luck for me if they send them out pelleted!

    Hey Anette, just in the off chance you know..... I'm chasing 40 cell seed trays in standard British size, so the same as your 24 cell one you used. But my issue is I can't get them in aus, do you know a place that would post here? I can't get them in aus in that size.

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Natasha, I have the 40 cells and the 15 cells. But I'm actually switching to 8 and 6 cell trays because I find that with the larger trays, they don't last very many seasons because it can be difficult to remove the plugs sometimes and the trays crack. So I'm not buying any new 40 cell trays. I don't know anywhere that will ship them internationally and I've checked a few online stores for you. I'm so sorry. have you tried eBay?

    • @natashaboerner6008
      @natashaboerner6008 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cottoverdi The size is my issue, I need them to fit in my little greenhouse, so even if I got smaller trays, I can't seem to get the right sized ones here. I have looked everywhere, scoured the internet, I can get 4 of them for $50 off Amazon and I have to have the bottom tray with it, and the dome over it. But thank you for looking, that was so lovely of you.

      @@natashaboerner6008 My pleasure. Yes squeezing all our seedlings into our available space is a constant battle! 🌱

    • @natashaboerner6008
      @natashaboerner6008 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cottoverdi a battle I feel I will never win, in Australia I can't get 6 or 8 in the right size either, my greenhouses are the mr fothergills ones that fit uk standard trays haha, so I bought a 72 cell tray just to test it out for mums vegetables, the insert doesn't fit in the damn tray!!!! They're sold together, who designed this nonsense? It fits over the edge with a 1inch gap between the insert and bottom tray, so it'll just fold in half once the soil is in. I reckon I just live in the wrong country 😞

      Gosh, that sounds ridiculous - who DID design those?!? Yes, maybe just move to England 🤣🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
