Rommel was one of the few commanders on the axis side that was very honorable.
one of the few commanders in the whole of war that was honourable, the allies also committed atrocities.
Tojo was the most honorable commander
@@soaringwingssecondstage8995 no he wasn't, Tojo was the one of the main reasons Japan was what it was in WW2
Are you sure?
@@soaringwingssecondstage8995 well I'm not so sure about how he handled when he was on the ground, but unlike Rommel, the man was very ambitious as a true believer of Imperial rule over Asia, hence boosting the militaristic nature of Imperial Japan. He was even called "Razor" for his cold decision making when he led the Kempetai(Military Police) in Manchuria. He also approved the attack of Pearl Harbor as well as the terrible conditions of POWs. Also being the Prime Minister of Imperial Japan who led the country in WW2, it can be said the the atrocities committed was also his responsibility, which are:
> Chemical warfare against Chinese citizens
> The Bataan Death March
> The rape of Nanking
And among others.
While yeah, these can be debatable if it was his fault or not, the responsibility of these actions ultimately falls on him as the leader of the nation (though technically Emperor Hirohito was the Head of State, most of the executive power kind of rests on Tojo)
So yeah, Tojo was definately not as honorable as other people, but that's pretty much gonna be a given being the Prime Minister of a fascist Imperial Japan
Montgomery is a competent general, but Rommel is a more capable general. If Rommel had received similar military supplies to British troops, Rommel would have won.
A funny side note: Germany was very adapt at using captured enemy vehicles (i would say they relied on it) At time the Afrikakorps boasted more allied vehicles then German manufactured ones. That's how dire the situation was. Rommel himself used a captured British command truck until it broke down and he switched back to his old Opel Blitz truck.
You have the RAF to thank for that. They torpedoed his supply ships and shot down his supply planes. When the fuel and ammunition does not even reach Africa, you are screwed. Though the Uboats wreaked havoc on the Royal Navy, the luftwaffe dropped the ball.
No because his military supplies weren‘t the real reason he lost in North Africa it was rather because of the decryption of the enigma. It was the thing that ruined Rommels attempt to capture el alamein. Due to them intercepting the communication they knew where he was going to attack. So, were able to heavily fortify and mine it. And due to that and because of the artillery guns there, he lost. So, in summary the shortage was a big problem but not the main one.
just imagine just with limited supply he almost defeated the British in North Africa, luckily Hitler never prioritize the North African campaign and just send Rommel their to help the Italians.
@@leanderklinger5154 I was going to post this but I saw your post. The compromised enigma transmissions combined with the lack of resupply really screwed Rommel. Hitler decided to focus Germany's resources on the Western front and practically abandoned Rommel to deal with the African front by himself.
If Rommel survived the war he would become one of the greatest NATO generals.
He would be executed for being a high commanding officer. Unless fellow officers of the Allies was willing to excuse him.

Wow. He should've been in charge, hitler shouldn't have been a german propagandist. That guy could have a good time leading, and not start a crisis. However, WWII did start peace between the americans and soviets, but, there is still some pros that outnumber that.
@@denniskibrik7310 Well I wouldn't say peace. I wouldn't even say WW2 laid any groundworks for peace between the US and USSR. The territory the Soviets captured wasn't being liberated, but rather occupied and controlled, but it wouldn't be until after the war would the West realize this and was greatly opposed to. After the war had ended and Stalin had lied about allowing elections in the occupied areas, all relations between the US and USSR ceased. Is it true that Rommel was considered to be gentleman at war and actually cared about PoW's ? I heard that somewhere but wonder if it's true
Montgomery and Rommel were gentlemen. They were adversaries but respect each other. In fact, both their sons are great friends. A bit like the Red Baron. When he was shot by the British and died he received a military funeral from the British.
Most soldiers does not mistreat prisoners of war, but sadly there are exceptions, even today.
Even Winston Churchill respected him for being so honourable in battle
Now the story of how the German came to be in possession of the goggles can be told for the first time. They were given to him by a British prisoner as a gift to thank him for retrieving a stolen hat.
Major General Michael Gambier-Parry, of the 2nd Armoured Division, was captured with 2,000 of his men by Rommel in Mechili, Libya, in 1941.
The German field marshal invited the British officer to dine with him in a gesture of military camaraderie. The pair shared good wine and smoked ‘excellent cigars’, according to Gambier-Parry’s granddaughter, Liza Donoghue, 67.
During the meal, Gambier-Parry complained that a German soldier had taken his hat. A furious Rommel then took it upon himself to get the garment back to his prisoner. And when Rommel later found Gambier-Parry’s Army goggles in a staff car, he asked the British officer if he could keep them and Gambier-Parry agreed...... Erwin Rommel cared about his own troops and the enemy
He didn't have to but he actually got the British soldiers hat back

Nico Gallos didn’t he execute a prisoner?
Yes he ordered an execution of a French officer who refused couple times to cooperate, but being debated whether it's legal or not because the officer didn't act as a PoW.
Yeah i believe he even paid the occupied country's people that constructed his trenches, and that he never let his men fire upon retreating forces
there were actually a couple of instances where this happened, most notably when Rommel refused to turn over one British SAS officer who was Jewish. Nothing below the board, Rommel simply refused to do so, knowing that Hitler couldn't really do anything to him because of his status to the German people and importance to the war effort. of course, this made Hitler want to kill him, really since long before the attempt on his life. Thus, When the possibility of his involvement came up, Hitler jumped on the opportunity to get rid of him as he had become too popular while holding a position opposing Hitler's own, thus making him the potential leader of any major rebellion

And finally ended with nuclear strikes in in 1950's on Emu Field under the guise nuclear test operation Totum.
You frgot to mention that during D-Day Rommel was at his home visiting his wife...
Also not mentioned was his success in Africa had a lot to do with having cracked the codes and reading Fellers' daily messages back to US.

I wish he was captured by the allies (so he could survive) or he just survived one more year
Yeah, wished he was captured in mid of France so the Allies could talk with him and such
Men that will sit beside him will probably be Eisenhower, Montgomery, Patton and Bradley.
he likes his family and country the first option would be a tragic destiny
This was in my recommended section under "sabaton - ghost division"...

Rommel should've been allowed to see the end of the war.
Um, his death sadly, is what happens when you serve a monster named Hitler...
@@largol33t1 Um, This was a honourable man not serving Hitler but his country?
@@largol33t1 he’s not serving on hitler ideology he’s serving for germany even his own men loves him
@@largol33t1 wasnt the thing here if the assasins never spoke to rommel or rommel reported the conversation to hitler right away he would still be alive *maybe*
@@largol33t1 Rommel wanna kill Hitler actually
They should name a tank after Rommel
We don't have tanks we just export them.. And they are busy with banning old Wehrmacht songs anyway so..
Minimon you're German?
Lets come up with one piece by piece, shall we?
yes
Who should the company be? We could try and bring back the Panzer name, using Mercadies-Benz, seeing how the Mercs are part of the defunct Daimler-Benz, responsible for the Panzers. Or bring back Krupp and Rheinmetall, possible for the Leichttraktor. We could also try Porsche.
Rommel was a perfect example of “A good soldier fights not because he hates what’s in front of him, but because he loves what’s behind him.” Rommel loved his homeland and was gonna fight for it, even if he clearly disagreed with who was running it.
4:42 german army coffin dance lol
Lol
Make a video of it
NOOOO DON’T 😭
FFS
Rommel was known to be very Chivalrous to his enemies, and allies. Montgomery and other allied generals respected Rommel, even on the battlefield.
Erwin Rommel never agreed with Hitler policies btw. He was a brilliant soldier/commander thats all. Very much like Ernst Jünger.

Simple History, please do a video about the Franz Stigler and Charlie Brown incident where a German fighter ace spared a cripple US B17 bomber and escorted it back to The English Channel. It's an amazing story that should be heard by more people.
