    Interesting video guys! Now we are using a pair of Olymphic Graphiteleader rods, concretely the Nuovo Remoto (GONRS-972XH and GONRS-1002H) up to 150g and 120g... and we are very happy with them, with the 150g (max PE5) we cast a 120g popper at +80m using the 39kg WTF Strong braid and a Stella 18000.
    Cheers!

    Hi guys, another fun film. You will find that technique rather than height should help you cast further, even if you are vertically challenged. We have a guy in the UK called Terry Edmund's who gives casting lessons and I think he has some you tube tutorials.

    Some really really good tips ........ great casting too guys !!!!!
    And YES, Tall can and should cast further, unless a whimmpy !!!!!

    Truth on the long rod and back pain.Used to hump the 10'6"Salmon rod up and down the rivers when I was younger.End of the day sharp pain right between the shoulder blades.You get used to it.Thank god my back does not hurt at work like it does fishing or I would not be able to afford fishing..

    Interesting stuff. I have a 10.5' Loomis IMX Surf (12-25 line weight - the light one) to fish salmon off the rocks here on Vancouver Island in Canada, and it's as long as I'd want to go. I think if I were buying again I'd go 10' but one I have is brilliant. I agree that weight and general comfort is far more important over a day of spinning than absolute casting distance. My rod is really light, so I can get away with the longer one. Distance does matter where I am as the bigger fish tend to hold further out and deeper, and the ones we get are chasing bait into shallower water. Almost all my hookups are right after the lure hits the water. Still, I'd go with comfort any day. Time in the water = hookups in my view.
    I'm typically chucking 1.5oz or ~45g with 30lb braid, and reckon I cast as far as you guys in the vids but would like to do a field test with different lure weights. The rod is rated to 80g but whenever I chuck something that heavy it feels like I'm gonna do the rod damage! Probably not.

    Good test everything you all said was right on the money. When I buy a rod I'll take a reel to the store to load up the rod I'm interested in.

    Another great video also if you get a rod custom built get a longer handle on it ie from the bottom of the reel seat to the butt it allows you to move the tip quicker and load the rod up better in the uk all the top end casting rods we use for carp have a longer handle than standard which with the right technique allows some to the top names to cast a weight in excess of 200yards

    How much drag do you guys use when you are targeting those GTs and Tunas of the rocks?

    • @MorningTideFishing
      @MorningTideFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Tuna 2kg - 3kg for a lot of the fight but if big fish more like 5kg. We play them light and once they've done their run tighten up a bit and bring em in.
      GT are a totally different game. 10kg + drag to start and once they hit, crank it up to locked drag (30kg) and even grab the spool. If you let them take line you're over in seconds. If you were on sand bottom you could let them run but if there's any structure around it's gotta be 100% locked (always structure where we're fishing). Only reason we don't lock from the get go is so we don't get pulled in and don't pop something. Building up to full lock even if it's over just a few seconds is much better then the jolt of a hit full drag. We're new to the GT game but have already learnt that full lock on 100lb + line, 150lb + leader is your only chance off the rocks!

    how did you guys find the WFT braid? I see your not using it now I got the 22kg and the 10kg the 10kg kept breaking and I threw 5 lures away so gave up on it. still have the 22kg on my BG 5000 but havnt used it much at all but im not confident in it.

  • @Catch202
    @Catch202 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Love these tests fellas .... couple of questions ... What was the weight of the lure ? Are you going to pick up the new Demon Blood which is due to be released over next couple of months ?

    • @MorningTideFishing
      @MorningTideFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This one was the smaller version 75g - www.motackle.com.au/nomad-madscad-150mm-75g.html
      These are our Tuna/Mackerel rods so we're casting 30g - 100g in general on them. Sweet spots maybe heavier than what we use them for but they still cast light lures OK and main reason we use em is once on the fish they're amazing
      I'll suss out the DB had no idea they were making a new one!

    Hey. Very interesting comparison. And what is this black hole? Who produces it? Jc? Or is it standard? You can tell a little about him. Thank you in advance.

    • @MorningTideFishing
      @MorningTideFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      facebook.com/jccustomrods/ He's an Aussie rod builder who made that stick specifically for my 8000 size dogfight. So the main difference to a standard version of that rod is the guides are spaced for a big reel and I think are oversized as well.

    You guys are a blast to watch and hardcore to the bone. What you guys pull off the rocks is incredible. Look up the unitech cast (i know you can't lay the plug down on the ground). IF you start cast with the plug on the inside of the rod tip you'll load the rod much more with less effort and cast further for some baits. I do this when on the rocks and waist deep and can get big distance while flat footed with almost no effort

    Hey guys great video, keep up the good work. Questions what's the prices of the different rods and why don't you give a personal rating on the feel like 1-5 stars. Means you we could average out distance / feel / price when making a choice on a rod, just an idea. Well done again love all your videos.

    What blank is your Black Hole based off of? I am looking to get a rod for GT's off the rocks and am trying to decide if I want to use a cheaper blank or pony up for something Japanese or CTS. Thanks!

    • @MorningTideFishing
      @MorningTideFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cape Cod Special Nano Heavy... Definitely not good for GT, it might stand a chance on smaller fish but it's the most parabolic thing i've ever used. Once I tried the high end Japanese stuff for GT I never looked back. You might like to watch this GT tackle talk film - th-cam.com/video/uPMiSw_2Snk/w-d-xo.html

      @MorningTideFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Casting isn't everything, you should just go feel them at tackle shops I pretty much guarantee that you'll love one or the other and your decision will be made just from your personal vibe/feel you get from the reels.

    Please guys. Tell me what gloves to buy. My finger would appreciate very much!

    • @joshuajenkins
      @joshuajenkins 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can get some thin sports tape for your finger tip also.

    • @MorningTideFishing
      @MorningTideFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tape is a good cheap option.
      We have Nomad, Zenaq and Shimano gloves they're all different but all good. Best thing is to go into a good tackle shop that stock a few different brands and try them on, some are light and thin others thicker and more heavy duty. Knowing your exact size is super important, too big or too small and it will just be annoying so really gotta get that right or you won't wear it.

      Just did then and the "Samaki Vanquish SVQ-862SH 8'6" 2pce 40-60lb Spin" looks like it might be suitable for what we do off the rocks. It would be rad to have the money to just order every rod that looks good to test it out! Haha maybe one day.

      @lelson86 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      haha yeh fellas i feel your pain every time i walk into the local i wished i had an endless bank account, that episode where you at fish head is a perfect example haha. I got the samaki Vanquish SVQ-762SH 40-50lb its a nice rod and casts like a dream but haven't had it properly buckled yet. I'm mainly casting off the beach and sometimes from the rocks so its a happy medium i guess. keep the vids coming too my eldest son and i sit down and watch them all the time. can't wait to chase some big rigs with my boys when there older. yeew

  • @AlejandroGonzalez-we6md

    What do you think about yamaga blank bluesniper? Thats better than zenaq or its more and less the same? Thank you !!

    • @MorningTideFishing
      @MorningTideFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are other models from each brand that would be a closer match than the two in this film (this sniper is a more power stick) but just in general Zenaq vs Yamaga is tricky, they're both really really good and it's like comparing a Stella to a Saltiga, Lambo to Ferrari, some people will just love the feel of one, some will love the other.
      These specific rods are both powerful, cast well and are light, but they don't feel the same. First thing you'd notice is the Zenaq has this angular grip, also has all those guides (11 to the snipers 7 i think). The sniper is a bit thicker but also more powerful and has a super crisp feel to it. Both brands and rods really good but you might prefer one over the other so try and get your hands on em to feel for yourself!

    if u guys had one setup to spin for barries and longtail what would it be and how heavy would u fish?

    • @MorningTideFishing
      @MorningTideFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      4k Saltiga or 8k Stella and your pick of PE3-4 sticks from any of the highend Japanese brands, Ripplefisher, Zenaq, FCL, Carpenter, Yamaga, etc. The feel of those brands is out of this world! Rod length we all like different stuff but personal 8 to 9 foot, think that's the same for Cavy and Jonny might prefer something a bit longer.

    • @MorningTideFishing
      @MorningTideFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think because you say 30kg Amberjack you want the HH. Might not be as fun on the lighter fish but I think you'd want as much power as you can get on those 30kg fellas!

      I mean like what species/size of fish and off headland or estuary etc. That rod on fish under 5kg will be chilled, 5-10kg prolly really fun and anything over 15kg you'll struggle a lot. It's about half to one-third as strong as the rods we're using but that doesn't mean you can't land good fish on it, just that it will be really intense and you prolly lose some of the bigger fish because you can't control them as well.

      Jonny is part of the Zenaq field staff now, so he gets his for free! Me and Cavy both just search the net for the cheapest price and go with it. Fish Head, Jig n pop, Plat co, Ray & Annes, motackle, anglers hut. We've got gear from all of those sites but just make sure you check shipping, somtimes it's better to buy a more expensive rod but shippings half the price from that location so it's better.

    zenaq accura is the best i think.. its my dream to own the accura 100HH There in malta its cost 870 euros but i have a shimano stellla 10000pg and rod i have major craft skyroad up to 120g but its not giving me good results .. so i think that the rod its not giving the right action for the jigs i use mostly 80 to 100g jigs and my targets are amberjacks even up to 30/40kg but mostly that we have in malta are 10kg but if a big on hits i want to be ready with the perfect set up so that i have a better chance of landing it .. we have even groupers and nice ones to and tuna !!! Soo for my heavy set up Accura 100HH i think would go well with my Stella 10000pg field with 22mm WFT braid line and i have like 450/550m in it. but you know how we are on our hobby of fishing we have what we have we always want more thats why i was thinking of buying the Saltiga 5000 or even more bigger but i think its the right size ...guys well done for all the info in the videos hope that one day you can come to fish in malta and meet up :) Thankyou guys hope to see you soon :D

      We get it off Dennis Verreet. He tells us it should be coming to Aus, or in Aus already through Jarvis Walker but we still are getting a lot of questions on where people can find it so I don't know if it's here yet.

      If you buy it get the 39kg or above (the 22kg and 32kg are both 4 strand i think, 39kg and up is like 8 so it's nice and smooth). Pretty sure these guys ship world wide - www.fishingtackle24.de/store-search-result.php?language=en&keywords=wft%20kg%20strong

    Gday boys have you noticed much of a difference between the black hole v the yamaga for the price difference?

    • @MorningTideFishing
      @MorningTideFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We kinda got them at the same price (around $650), but the Yamaga is a stiffer rod, the Black Hole is very, VERY parabolic. I think if you like parabolic rods go the Black Hole if you want a crisper rod go the Yamaga.

      I'm not your nigga. Im white. Jeez. If your in Florida premium tackle shops have it. Look at the last live show black tip h did. He spooled a reel with it and another with ball buster. If not order it from Japan. eBay JDM sites have it all. And get some duo lures at the same time. They are amazing

    Why would you guys prefer something like Stella or Saltiga rather than van staal especially you guys are going into water a lot?

    • @MorningTideFishing
      @MorningTideFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi mate, Van Staals we've felt before and they were super heavy duty, kinda rough and had a low line capacity. Saltiga/Stella are both super smooth and are a dream to spin with, like to the point of you feel happy just casting and winding with no hook ups at all haha. So yeah we just love the feel of them and that ensures we put in the time needed to connect with these fish, we end up spinning for like 10 hours + a day on our trips and if we don't love our setup we won't feel like putting in that time. Services are around $100 -$200AUD each year.

    • @vsonic86
      @vsonic86 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      $100-$200 just to services your reel?

    • @MorningTideFishing
      @MorningTideFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah sometimes more but that is prolly about average, after a year there is usually something pretty major wrong, like anti-reverse or drag or something cracked haha we try to take care of them but they get pretty pumped!

    Hey guys, this question is a bit more targeted towards Cavy, but a general opinion would be good as well. How do the older Saltiga rods compare to the likes of the Yamaga/NS/Zenaq rods? I happened to find myself at a tackle store over the weekend (as you do) and picked up the new Saltiga 7'4" rod that's rated to pe 3-4 and casts a 30-70g lure. It felt like a soft plastic rod as it was super thin and light, but when the sales guy held the tip to load it up, it felt unreal all the way from the butt. I've never played with any of the Yamaga/NS/Zenaq rods and was wondering if those rods are the next level above that of the previous saltiga rods or are they pretty much on par, but have better lengths or something. Cheers!

    • @MorningTideFishing
      @MorningTideFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Saltiga rods are up there but I think Yamaga/Zenaq/Ripplefisher are on another level of feel (carpenter prolly as well but haven't felt one). Saltigas are much nicer than your average Daiwa/Shimano rod though.

    • @nid07
      @nid07 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I could cast over 100m with a 6'10 rod with a 21g jig. But the line and lure u use makes a massive difference. Try casting with PE6 line and a big swimbait and see if it's easy to hit 70m

  • @hazza196

    Great video guys! Just a question, what's the minimum rod length you guys think for fishing off ledges? guys reckon

    • @MorningTideFishing
      @MorningTideFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      8' - 10' is the good range, longer or shorter you'll start getting into a bit of trouble.

    • @hazza196
      @hazza196 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh Ok, I was looking at a Shimano T curve Bluewater spin 7'6, 10-15kg, 40-120gram or a Shimano Revolution offshore stickbait 8', 10-24kg, 60-170gram and really can't decide on either and I have felt both of them aswell. Thanks for the advice.

      Hey mate our next trip's not till June! We all have to save coin for each trip so can only really do them every few months. Maybe in a couple years we'll be making some money from our films and be able to do this full time but until then we're at the mercy of our not so highly paid jobs haha.
