- Throwback to December 2021 when we found an evil witch staff in the yard. Figured we'd see what Apollo thought about it before destroying it. He was scared, but didn't flee like he normally does when scared of something, instead choosing to confront it and then celebrate it's destruction.
Apollo is our 4 year-old African Grey parrot we've had since December 2020.

Dalton showed him that stick and Apollo went straight to default mode

Someone threw that stick in their yard, and Apollo was scared, so Dalton helped him by showing him the stick going away.

Is there a back story of the evil stick?
from what i'm reading he was specifically upset about the stick because someone threw it into their yard without warning, so dalton made sure to show it to him before destroying it so that he wouldn't be afraid of it anymore. i think it's a similar thing to destroying a parrot's old cage so that they'll accept a new one. i think parrots have a little bit TOO much object permanence

@@girzarro I think there might be a bit of "thrill-seeking" behaviour here too, as he didn't fly away and stuck around for the burning. Sort of the same way people will intentionally watch things they know will scare them.

What I was young i got drunk with a guy and he said we could go back to his flat, but there was a problem...his grey African parrot , it didn't like some people, and drove them out , with noise .. it was kind of funny he was obviously selecting people to visit his flat ..based on his parrot, i made sure to talk to the parrot etc, ffs i was so nervous I treated it like it was another person , and everything was fine , lesson i learnt is parrots are smart and can be difficult , what an easy life get a f****** canary

He said “Stop it” and sorry neither of you two really listened to him (Dalton came back with it & Tori his fear/extreme reaction just seemed to go over your compassion. Still love this channel and as a trauma survivor who often gets triggered by invalidation, Apollo was not feeling safe and believed when he flat out expresses a clear boundary.

@@sherylottaway1840huh? No, no. That's not what happened! Someone threw this odd stick with the count on it into their yard. Apollo was already scared of the stick. Dalton helped Apollo face his fear of the stick and showed him the stick was really gone. That's why Apollo was so interested and actually probably pretty happy that Dalton was getting rid of the strange new stick. Greys process new items differently, like they are new risks. This was actually really cool of Dalton and Tori to notice that Apollo was scared of this object, help him see that it couldn't harm him, and get rid of it.
And if Dalton hadn't shown Apollo the stick going away, Apollo might have continued to worry about it being in the yard, even if it had been removed out of sight. They let him know they were aware of the offending object, too, and got rid of it. It's not for channel views, but I'm glad they shared it on the channel because people should know that greys can get scared of ANY new items in their environment. Desensitizing them to objects is a large part of training them to not feel constant anxiety.
I can say with 100% certainty that Apollo watching him burn the scary thing was his choice and he continued to play while doing so. He was very brave.
You guys are being very cruel to the bird. You obviously don’t own the bird. I hope the mom or dad see this. You’re teaching this beautiful bird to be fearful. Go take out your cruelty out on each other. I can’t even believe I’m seeing this. Birds are terrified of fire. Oh….Jesus
First of all, this is completely wrong. Dalton and Tori got Apollo in December 2020. They fully own the bird. Apollo doesn't have a mom or dad, Well, basically he does, but that's the other African Grey that laid one of the eggs that Apollo was inside of. And they are not teaching him to be fearful, he was already scared of it, and they were trying to get him to overcome that fear. They were never abusing him, they were never commiting animal cruelty. One video, they were showing him a lighter behind the window. He was just staring at it, he wasn't flying away and screaming. Dalton and Tori are good bird parents, and they treat Apollo and the girls right. Get your sensitive asses on mind.
