This is the exact type of guide I needed. When I look for Leo guide idc about moves and their properties I can look them up in the movelist. I want to know how to play this character without getting spammed the hell out of me. Now we need a Leo pressure game video and defensive game vs aggressive players.
Oh thank god. No joke, using these three moves far more often finally broke my plateau at Fujin and let me rise up 2 ranks tonight. It seriously cannot be understated how valuable they are to Leo's neutral game. *Especially* df+3, IMO; if you don't make ample use of this, it becomes incredibly difficult to properly keep good players in check in the higher ranks, and no other move gives you more time to safely process the enemy's next move like this one. You're doing awesome work, Richie!
As someone new to leo that struggles with the neutral this video is gold. Id be interested in more videos like this as you find more neutral tools as well if thats something youd be into.
Df3 is really slept on. The range it has plus alleviating one of Leo's only weaknesses (which is sidestepping since Bajiquan has a lot of linear movement) just goes hard.
17f for a homing mid that knockdowns and wallsplats is quite fast usually most are slower than 17f. But yeah if the opponent knows how to ssr block vs Leo then your df3 is gonna blocked and they are still able to avoid your other other main mids and jab. @@neopolitan9156
I've never slept on it, that been my go to since t7. Keep you honest moves like that forces people to eat your mix from it's threat. If you can get people to play 2d in Tekken Leo will melt you.
Ayoouu.💖 I love what you just explained about Leo's b1, but one thing I'd like about her df,3 is that on block, it pushes the opponent away in comparison to T7 where it used to leave her face to face with the opponent which made it completely useless. You could also do df3 from a tip range which will push the opponent even further. Glad other properties of this move were untouched such as being a homing move, wallsplat, and knocks the opponent away on CH. Cheers💖
Good to know i've been doing things at least half right! I think my biggest fault is I do usually let B1 rip into either 1+2 bok or 4 and let the stance be my mix up option alone, and rely on it too much to get into pressure. With just doing B1 though, it's basically a mix on top of a mix, but in a different way. Very good tip! I'll have to utilize that. Two i'd like to add myself is I love throwing out sway 3+4 to either get in or meet an approaching opponent, and I find it catches people all the time. Then also, as I play more defensive, throwing out F3+4 has been working out great for me too! Think of it almost like Bryan's standing 3+4. That, combined with D2, i've had pretty good success on defense when frustrating my opponent and forcing them to get impatient and make mistakes, just to blow them up.
The reason why I picked up Leo( aside from always wanting to play Leo) was due to the fact it takes skill to play Leo at a high Level. THIS. Is a perfect example of what I mean.
I dont know about “skill” but I know that Leo does not need perfect execution. The inputs are not that hard, the combo for optimal damage does need execution, leo has many tools including that 11 frame WS 4, 1+2, and now that 1,4 puts them into a 50/50? He have plenty of insane pressure tools and that DF 2 still launches on crouch. Only IWS 3 after UF 2, 1 back in tekken 7, but now we have heat engager and KnK Cancel is not necessary. I think leo is pretty easy compare to character like King, Kazuya, Jin, Steve (with his infamous shiro combo)
@@darrylhesatama3366 uhhh skill as in putting your basic fundamentals to the test and not being able to be saved by character specific things. I would know I’m a Jin main.

Im a new Tekken/fighting game player coming from smash, so I barely understand anything in terms of Tekken language. I still can't do super technical stuff like the pick up from one of your recent videos but i am slowly improving and i reached purple ranks only thanks to you so please keep going you are an amazing Leo and Tekken player! One thing i would like to learn is better combos without depending on heat, at the moment i do :launcher:>b1,1+2,1,f3,BOK1,2 and end with b1+2,1+2 d,df,f2 for damage when there's no wall and for wall carry i do :launcher: b1 f4KNK,crouchdash WS3, f4KNK crouchdash WS 2,1 (and if they hit the wall) i do b4 KNK4,3 tornado, now if they end up on the top part of the wall i go for BOK power crush , d3+4 (the stomp). if they end up on the lower part of the wall i just go WS 1,4,1. The biggest problem is when i hit someone after a sidestep and i launch them from behind/their side, i can't find a consisent way to keep them in the air because the normal combos drop them. Thank you again for all your videos they teached this newbie so much and i still have a lot to learn! i can't wait to see more
Bt punishers are b1,1+2 into df2 or 3,2,4 knk3 or b1+2,1+2,qcf2 combo I go for is 2,3 uf1,1 dash 3,2,3 and heat after the tornado can be an option too if it will kill
When doing b3+4 it's best to do it from at least 1 backdash away or farther. Lots of new Leo players make the mistake of trying to do it from range 0 and they get hit. At point blank it will only evade stubby i20 or slower moves so it's not worth it.
Hey Richie im a hard stuck eliminator orange rank, I’ve used all your tactics and watched your videos religiously. By chance could you possibly make a video about how us Leo mains can take what we learned from you and make a video simply on how to play Leo at a basic rank standard? Simply because I take what you teach us but it’s hard to use it online, especially that I’m a new tekken 8 player. And if not you still helped me excel and keep doing what your doing!!
At that rank you need to work on basic defense and match-up knowledge. The easiest way to clear orange and red rank is to simply punish knowledge checks and break throws.
I play leo a lot and im 10 dan but i dont play much. I enjoy him but sometimes i forget those simple moves like df3 so to get this really helps. Plus i kinda forgot how creative Leo can actually be.
Oh yeah random tech too. If you go into KNK stance and heat smash you can get a guaranteed F1+2, even at the wall 😂! But try it and with the way the opponent is in the air do you think you can find a way to get a combo from that? I’ve been looking but I’m going to lab it when I get off work later on.
the combo i use is pretty reliable, which is df2 b1-1+2 1 f3-d 1-2 dash forward 1+2 1+2 qcf2, you hold down during forward 3 to go into bok stance. ive been using it since i started playing them it does 67 to 70 damage depending if u get the qcf at the end right
Yh it makes sense, df3 may sacrifice frames in a lot of scenarios but keeping your opponent in check more often then not will prove beneficial in the long run
Let them mash, Leo has great panic buttons and CH tools but like Richie says back kenpo b3+4 will also help create space as well. Relax, you can do this!
I agree with the above moment, I had a victor push not stop against me, I just fought fire with fire. I would create space and if you don’t see a whiff, just close the distance with ff+2, b1,4
if they have lazy offence (mashing) learn the parries and it'll do wonders. if they're mashing on defence try to notice what they're mashing and take advantage of it. make them block a jab and then you have tons of options. you can duck and ws2, df2+3, db41, d1+2, side step, cr1, and if they're mashing out a string you can probably get them with db3. if they're mashing after blocking knk you can frame trap with 1 or 2. leo does very well when the opponent over extends so take advantage of it.
I’ve always been a Lee/Raven main but I wanted to play someone different. I’ve loosely played Leo since T6 but I’ve been literally destroying players with leo I’m currently a Mighty Ruler. However I’m still doing the df1, d1, wr141 wall combo 😂
Hey bro can you help me understand when to use 2,2 instead of 1,2 staggers up close? I notice when im getting staggered to death by Lily or Nina i have much better luck breaking their pressure with 2,2 for the fast mid even though its slower and negative.
22 is unsafe on block and slower than 12. If you want to interrupt then 12 would be the better option. Or a single 1 jab would be better since even when whiffed from a duck or step it is still hard to punish, due to the fast recovery.
