Fun fact: This Michael Jackson performance is often considered to be the first time anyone did this style of the "robot" dance routine. Also, I wish you had reacted to the version of Dancing Machine that included Cher from her "Cher Show" XD
Years before he would actually join the Jacksons -- he had to be about 12 years old here. Not many clips of all six Jackson brothers onstage in the 1970s. Once they left Motown and Jermaine stayed with the company, Randy took his place in the group.
The little guy is Randy he was the youngest and later on joined the group when they became the Jackson’s when they moved to epic records ,and he also replaced Jermaine when he stayed at Motown and went solo
MJ loved the late great Fred Astaire who was a beast on the dance floor! He watched his style of dancing! Before Astaire passed away he complimented The King of Pop! He said “Oh, God! That boy moves in a very exceptional way. That’s the greatest dancer 🕺of the century”. - Fred Astaire on seeing Michael Jackson dancing.
Dancing Machine was released September 1973, so Michael would have been just turned 15 in late August. I was five years old, and my kid brain thought they were saying "washing machine" as that was the only machine I knew. lol
The iconic robot part of performance marked a transition for Michael with serious vocal power and distinctive style 🕺In rehearsal footage (during adult Michael era lol) I notice how engaged Michael was in the process , even guiding his dancers on particular movements and steps. Watching this show again, his visionary approach to choreography always ahead of his time and unafraid to push boundaries 🥰 Michael, you are deeply missed by billions of fans around the globe. 💕
You should do a video of young Michael singing live and dancing at the same time:) Michael was always known as a good dancer, and an incredible impersonator, even as a very small child. Check out the J5 audition tape where Michael impersonates James Brown at the age of 10. But I guess the moment you are talking about is the Motown 25 special in 1983 where he did the moonwalk for the first time on TV. That is the beginning of cementing Michael as one of the greatest dancers of all time:) Unfortunately, as you can see and hear, this is not live, like most TV performances of the era.
The young one on the bngo drums is Randy Jackson ( Not the Randy Jackson from American Idol, no relation) . He is the second youngest Jackson and is now Janet Jacksons manager.
Michael first showed off the Moonwalk at the Motown 25th Anniversary Special. He performed with all his brothers for the first time since he went solo. Jermaine also performed with the brothers since he left the group years before. After the performance with his brothers, he performed Billie Jean where he showed off his skills as a seasoned performer
The “Unbelievable Dancer” moment was MOTOWN 25. That’s was his real shift into MJ the King of Pop. The music, the dance, the iconography, and the pure talent and drive are all on display in that performance. Y’all have to watch the whole thing though!! The medley with his brothers AND Billie Jean ❤️
Such an underrated song 💃🏾the robot dancing was 🔥🔥 you guys should watch the mini series of their life Jackson 5 An American Dream its one of the best autobiography films till this day it came out in 1992 it gives you a really good insight on their life before and during fame their relationship with their father Joe.
If you haven't watched it, please watch the live version of them performing 'Never Can Say Goodbye '. It's soooo good! Probably the same episode as this performance because they were wearing the same outfits.
In interviews, Janet has said that they were close - until "Thriller" changed everything. Michael's ridiculous level of fame forced him to insulate himself - unfortunately from his own family too - because there were so many layers of people involved just to talk to him. Things only got more complicated once he developed a dependency on drugs (all leading back to when his hair caught on fire) because the family wanted to have interventions and MJ had the resources and security to prevent it. Janet is on camera in her docuseries saying that she wasn't "allowed" to spend time with her own brother unless they were shooting together on the "Scream" video, and that's just sad.
@@KB-xp6dq Plus I’m sure it didn’t help that Janet had that man following her around recording every second of her life. From what I understand, the entire family got tired of it pretty quickly but she ignored their complaints and kept bringing him with her everywhere. She wouldn’t even make him stop for her mom apparently.
The little guy is Randy Jackson. He’s the youngest brother and Janet is the youngest of all 9 siblings of Joe and Katherine Jackson. Joe had another daughter out of wedlock that you don’t hear much about.
i would gather MJ is about 15-17 age range i think. He still has that soprano of his younger self with a little tenor of his future voice. I will always say that MJ's spin in his dance started POP MUSIC! you guys gotta see when they performed this at MJ's 30th anniversary special with NSYNC! matter of fact, why not react to that special in its entirety, if you have about 2 hours lol :)
I would guess this was from 1974. I thought he was born in Sept ?< of 58 so Michael would have been 15 or 16. The Brady kids ALL wore shirts with the collars at their longest in the last year of the show. Kind of like tail fins. 😄
No one commenting how insane and incredible that robot dance was? That's impressive now 50 years later, but can you imagine seeing that first hand?
💯🙌🏾
The little guy on the end playing the congos, is the youngest brother, Randy.
Legendary!!! Rip MJ & Tito 🙏🏾❤️

Maybe the first time on tv but def not the first time.
The little one is Randy Jackson the youngest brother. The stylist was their mother. Motown 25th anniversary performance is when Mj was a superstar

Probably the most successful child music star in music history period 🎉
He is. By far
What's not to love? The hype was REAL!!!!
The moment everyone realized he was MICHAEL JACKSON was Motown 25.
Yeah. After that other dancers started calling. They were always impressed but that did it
White people took notice. He didn't create his dance moves. Black dance clubs is where he learned the robot and moonwalk.
The kids these days would say that it’s AI.😂
Pure talent and finesse and greatness.
The little guy is Randy he was the youngest and later on joined the group when they became the Jackson’s when they moved to epic records ,and he also replaced Jermaine when he stayed at Motown and went solo
We all knew before this but he has had a few moments in his career when we realized he was different
Everyone realized when he performed at Motown 25 Anniversary special Billie Jean when he debuted the moonwalk for the 1st time. A must watch

😂
Funny enough when MJ was a Toddler he used to dance to the rhythm of the washing machine when it was on lol! One of his moms fave memories of him!
🤣
mj has been singing and dancing since he was 5 :3 you guys can watch " i want you back" jackson 5 live its amazing
The moment was he did the moonwalk on the Motown 25 celebration.
I was about 6 or 7, and it was amazing watching it “live”.
❤Jackson 5
but Michael was the golden child
i was 4 at the time, so these styles are some of my first memories of the world.
The robot is still seriously good. They were so smooth and fluid. I think he’s one of the only pop stars in the dancers hall of fame. For good reason.

Yeeesss he was giving them miniature James Brown on that audition tape.
Oh, my childhood is flashing before my eyes! Michael was my childhood boyfriend! Oh, and the first time he unleashed the moonwalk...mind blown!😱
This is who all the boy bands try to be... The Jackson 5....
The Sylvers were another family that was very talented. They rivaled the Jackson 5 for years. Both families had immense talent!
The FUNK!
💯🙌🏾

That’s their little brother randy (the little guy)….and their mom made their outfits and MJ been performing since 5 not 9!
Katherine only made their outfits in their early years up until they signed with Motown. The wardrobe department put together these outfits.
More JACKSON 5!!!
Thanks Chantae! ♥️

Oooh! Ooh! Y’all should watch the Jabawockeez do a Jackson 5 tribute with this song. They killed it! Truly made the performance their own.
Their mother was their stylist and did the alterations for their costumes “stage clothes”
More of the Jackson 5!! 😅
Someone send them the Motown 25 “Billie Jean” performance!
I think it's the first time seeing this performance. This song, Jackson 6❤
billie jean motown 25 is where his dancing became world famous. it went from world famous singer and dancer, to Singer and DANCER in 24 hours 1983!
Please react to Blame it on the boogie video. It's the Jacksons brother's a little older, but the song is one of my favorites from them.❤
If you haven't watched it, please watch the live version of them performing 'Never Can Say Goodbye '. It's soooo good! Probably the same episode as this performance because they were wearing the same outfits.
Their Mom Katherine Jackson mainly designed and made the outfits herself 🥹
Look at little Michael. I forgot about Dancing Machine. At this time he was just Michael Jackson.
The little guy on the bongos is there little brother Randy who would end up being a full-time member until the mid-80s
Michael and Janet were close and drifted apart around the time of the Scream video. Janet is now closer to Randy, from her recent social media posts.

Michael was also a Tap dancer. There are a few videos of him tapping on TH-cam.
I would guess this was from 1974. I thought he was born in Sept ?< of 58 so Michael would have been 15 or 16. The Brady kids ALL wore shirts with the collars at their longest in the last year of the show. Kind of like tail fins. 😄
Maybe in the beginning TH-cam premium was $6😂 but now it's $13.99/a month
Mike was about 15 years old here (he turned 16 in August 1974).
Randy Jackson is on the left playing the bongos!
This is very amazing dance 2024
That is little Randy 👍🏼
There is all kinds of dancing machine
U should definitely react to Motown 25, but PLS react to the WHOLE performance. That is, if you have not reacted to that one yet. 😊
It was 6 brothers Randy is the youngest playing the bongos
The little boy is Randy Jackson
He was maybe 16?
