  • In the 51st Into The Lair, Dave Pensado how he tackles mixing multiple elements in a mix that are fighting for the same frequency space. In the example, Dave shows how he mixes 3 similar sounding synthesizes together while leaving space for each one to exist happily in the mix!

    Finally I’m ready at the stage in my career where I can begin to understand Daves’ teachings. So blessed! Thanks for your dedication and still “raising” us youngun’s in the mixing world. 2 years ago this was Greek! 🙏

    What a great tip. I layer a fair few synth tracks, this tip has helped glue them together.

    Some ppl obviously don't understand the point of this vid. Daves awesomeness has showed ways to clean up a muddy track with several different sounds in the same mid frequency range. Making yours tracks clear. Thats real audio engineering. Thanks Dave! We used to have to pay universities thousands to gain this information

    I've been dying to know if that sign that says CLOCK! is something significant or if it is just to remind you to start a timer for billing purposes?

    the CLOCK stands for setting up the sample-clock rate. if you setup the clock wrong in a project , to the files you got to mix, tracks getting faster / slower ;)
    44.1 -> 48khz for example.
    hope you did understand my german english ;)

    I believe it's there to remind him to take breaks when working on music. Simply a reminder to check the time so his ears are refreshed and working.

    If you're syncing to an external clock then you really want to be cognitive of what rate that clock is and if it has changed. Using an external clock can be very helpful, especially at high sampling rates. ProTool's (HD/TDM) internal clock is ok, but there are some awesome aftermarket units that can improve the quality of your audio due to jitter errors.

    I'm guessing it's to remind him to start the clock for billing purposes. You sure wouldn't find a sign like that in a lawyer's office.
