- Here is day 9-11 of my jaw surgery recovery. I'm much less swollen, still pretty tired and numb, still pretty difficult to talk but overall feeling a lot better than week one.

Bless your heart! My son is around your age, and I just want to give you a hug. We had a rough recovery after his tonsillectomy (so much harder at 24). I know your parents had to be torn when they left. It’s hard to see your children in pain. I’m glad you’ve got Monica and Oliver with you. You are doing so well! You look and sound better in every video. The tears are so normal after anesthesia and all the pain and interrupted rest. It’s going to get so much better! Big hugs to you and your family! I hope you’re feeling 100 percent very soon! ❤️

I've got braces and am getting this surgery sometime next year. I'm so glad you're vlogging this since all the other TH-cam videos haven't documented the recovery in this much detail.
Even though you said you won’t get the surgery for a while, I hope it goes well for you. I thought Clara Daos video was a pretty good explanation too, at least of mouth surgery in general.

I was suppose to get this done, and I chickened out last minute tbh. Once it got down to it I just couldn't make myself go through with it. I commend anyone who is brave enough to do this surgery, it's so intense.
I chickened out as well. Again, nothing truly documented this well enough for me to trust it 100%. But the braces have been taken off, cannot be reversed back for the surgery, but overall I am 99% happy with the result. It's good. No regrets.
My Son went through it. its a bad month or so, but worth it. His smile is perfect, no more head-aches / jaw pain due to misalignment, no long-term issues (it was 5 years ago) and he is very glad he did it.

Amazing the progress Shelby has made, in such a short time! After all she has gone thru, she has stayed so positive, though a little impatient with the healing process. I was imagining that the best Shelby could do was to mumble sentences, but her speech is so coherent!

I had this exact same surgery done a couple years ago. Recovery was the toughest for me in so many aspects, but the results were literally life changing for me and I don’t regret it one bit. You got this girl! 💕 it’s so worth it 😊

Hey Shelby! I couldn't help but watch your video from my Occupational Therapy lens and as someone who recently had to take pain medication every 4-5 hours (even in the middle of the night) w. food. I would highly encourage you to prepare a snack that you can keep ideally at your bedside with the medication and a glass of water or in the fridge, so you can take the medication, and eat/drink your snack in a few minutes and then go back to bed (and hopefully) sleep within a few minutes. The few times I did that when recovering from my finger surgery, it made a huge difference in my sleep! Some suggestions of snacks could be applesauce, peanut butter or pre-packaged pudding that can be stored at room temperature or yogurt, smoothie, milkshake or cottage cheese. I dunno just some ideas!
Another tip regarding managing your energy is ensuring that as you slowly participate in more activities and for longer times, try to do so in smaller bouts and incorporate rest breaks and ideally changing positions, where if you're standing or walking, you should sit down for a few minutes. If you know ahead of time, that you'll be going on a walk with Monica and Oliver, take it easy a few hours before to conserve more energy for that activity. Prioritize your energy where you want to use it the most, and sometimes that may require not doing some tasks like dishes, or washing your hair every day. Lastly, while it is important to upload content and edit your videos, you should know that that will take up quite a bit of your energy and you may have less energy for other activities. So just take that into consideration, whether it means posting less often (we would all understand!), asking someone to help edit or just having editing as a priority and knowing that it may require you not doing another activity. Just be kind to yourself, be gentle and forgiving. Your health is the most important at the end of the day! Get better soon!!!

I'm so nosy as a nurse about your recovery, but so thankful I get to watch your journey! You look amazing, considering what your face and jaw went through trauma wise with the surgery!! I cried when you cried in most of the recovery vlogs, totally get where you are coming from... I see it a lot with my patients post any surgery! You can do this! And you are amazing getting through this! keep doing your exercises and soon, this will all be over... I mean, the dreading months before it are over and so are the days after! It soon will be a distant memory! I mean, you even freaking closed on a house and VOTED while recovering!! You are AMAZING!!!

When you teared up over your parents leaving... boy could I relate to that. My parents don’t live next to me either so when they leave after a long visit it’s absolutely heartbreaking. I can’t imagine on top of that not feeling well. You were really brave Shelby and I look forward to watching your videos and seeing you get better. Personally bad enough just having a wisdom tooth out and i gave it a miss having the other two out for the inconvenience, you have been so brave and have a nice approach to the experience in comparison. i gotta say-your surgery and healing vlogs REALLY bringing me back in time to 2014 when i had my buttom jaw surgery[orthogenetic surgey,where your buttom jaw is really out and you have like 2-11 mm gap between the jaws!] i had to had a 8 hours surgery,be in the hospital for 11 days,eat from a syringe from 30-40 days because both of them are wired up and closed completely,practice opening my jaw with wood sticks that you put in your mouth each time one more to open it,sound kinda different[my voice is a bit deeper but my vocal range now is insane! love it!] and you look like a totally different person!
you got this pretty wasy compare to how my journey went but i gotta say-you're a strong woman! even though mine was hell compare to yours-it's still a pretty tough surgery and recovery process to go through!

I work for an oral surgeon in Canada and we recommend taking extra strength tylenol inbetween the doses of ibuprofen. That may help.
I had this surgery myself, it does! You can interchange ibuprofen and acetaminophen. She also definitely shouldn’t be eating solid food at this stage, liquids (even ensure) are the best! I chewed food can bother your stomach.
