  • I had thought this log was oak when I first got it, but it turns out to be maple.
I think maple is actually harder than oak (red oak for certain), so this represents a real good test for the worktable sawmill.
It was a challenge to load this onto the worktable due to the weight of the log, but once positioned, the worktable sawmill chewed through it, albeit quite slowly on the 15" wide part.

    Gantry crane build next? 😂
Wonderful finish from that resharpened blade!
    Garden obelisk looks great!

I was contemplating a few ways to lift the log ... gantry included ... but I think I'll hold off on that😉. The resharpened blade did a surprising amount of work, and the cuts were quite nice. I have cut through several nails and done more damage there than the lag screw seemed to do. Go figure!
      Glad you like the obelisk.

I love how sweaty you got 😂. I seam to recall picking it up with one hand and loading it into your trailer. The full log broke my trailer axle.

That log WAS heavy (at least for me). I don't think I could do anything bigger. And it is no surprise it broke the axle of your trailer. I was worried it was going to break my worktable!
