    I am looking at going and setting some like this up the only problem I have is where I am off to has little electricity and lots of brounouts so I am looking no pumps I could use a hand with that issue

    • @thehealthawakening
      @thehealthawakening  ปีที่แล้ว

      Having electrical issues will be extremely difficult to run a system. You will need to look into an alternate source such as solar or wind.

    How many hours per day should the grow bed be irrigated in an aquaponics system?

    • @thehealthawakening
      @thehealthawakening  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can put it on a timer and shut it off at night, but we kept ours running all day. Make sure you keep the water oxygenated during the night for your fish by using an aerator.

    • @thehealthawakening

      I don't see why not, but you my have issues to plumb it. The system water flows by gravitation. Also, having them up waist high is nice for planting or harvesting.

    You go to great lengths to use Ibc totes but for the grow beds would it not be easier to build two big grow beds and only 2 bell siphons less pipe and fittings

    • @thehealthawakening
      @thehealthawakening  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sure, but you have to build according to the materials that are available to you. I live in Honduras, we are limit to what we have.

  • @MrBinumathai

    Hi
    May i know why are you adding biofilter in spite of you have grow bed? What is the maximum stocking density you are advising?

    • @thehealthawakening
      @thehealthawakening  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can use your grow beds to do that. A biofilter is a place for beneficial bacteria to grow. A biofilter is cheap to build, why not do so? Also, I do everything I can to prevent any fish fecal matter from getting into the grow beds. For my systems and with tilapia, max is 64 tilapia in each IBC tank.

    • @MrBinumathai
      @MrBinumathai 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thehealthawakening Hi Shawn, Thank you for your reply, will you please explain what is the maximum stocking density in AP we can keep?

    • @thehealthawakening
      @thehealthawakening  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For tilapia in my systems, I calculate for a 1 lb fish for every 4 gallons of water. The IBC tote will have approximately 250 gallons of water. All fish species have different stocking density and water quality tolerance.

    What can I do for a sump if I cannot dig thru dirt? My backyard is completely cemented. Thnx

    • @thehealthawakening
      @thehealthawakening  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You would have to build your grow beds up higher and make your sump more shallow. I would avoid bell siphons because they make the water go up and down dramatically. You would need to go with the constant flood method and consider a ball float valve in the sump to ensure proper water level at all times. Make sure you check out my Ebook at www.morningstaraquaponics.com

      @robbycast 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @chukwow5738
      @chukwow5738 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      robbycast
      You can still use grow beds with flood & drain if you put the sump (as big as you possibly can do) on the ground and pump water from there to the second sump (full size) also above ground. You than put a sensor/switch (like in the toilet) that activate the pump when water level is high, and stops when water level is low.
      This does not interfere with the rest of the system due to that water is pumped up from the sump. It can therefore be placed practically where ever you want as long as it is under the grow beds and under the fish tank.
      Cheers mate

      Revelation 22:16 (KJV) I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
