    Hi, your video has inspire me to have this Aquaponics project during MCO3.0. Thanks !
    I have few Qs
    1. for tilapia tank, is there a minimum tank size ?
    2. Grow bed, any specific size and Height to best work with Bell Siphon ?
    3. What is the Bell Siphon measurement vs the size (height) of the grow bed ?
    4. can I cascade multiple Grow beds ? Parallel or Serial ?
    Thanks for this great video !!!

    • @DIYGARDENWITHBB
      @DIYGARDENWITHBB  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Albert thanks for watching.
      1-In my opinion 50 gallon and above, you can use plastic barrels
      Plastic Barrels A popular, low-cost option many early aquaponics gardeners have used is the 55-gallon plastic barrel, in order to use 55-gallon barrels for your system, you’ll need to cut them
      Grow beds are usually created by cutting the barrels in half lengthwise. Fish tanks can be created by cutting out the end containing the bungholes, leaving the sturdy ring in place to provide structural integrity
      Once you’ve cut the barrel, you may find the plastic begins to sag and deform. It is common to support the base of the barrel with boards. You can also screw the cut edge to something (like the half-barrel next to it) to prevent sagging
      2-A grow bed is any tray, tube, or tank in which your plants grow. However, deep grow beds will produce more vigorous plants, yielding harvests roughly 20 percent larger than shallow trays
      Aquaponics grow beds should be about 12 inches deep. This gives adequate room for almost any root system
      3-An auto-siphon is an automatic way to quickly drain a grow bed once the water level has reached the desired level. Auto-siphons don’t have any moving parts, so they don’t need electricity.
      4- both can its depend on your system design.
      Here is the system updates
      th-cam.com/video/2AXz6Oy_Zgw/w-d-xo.html.

      @fudgefudge8913 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you do hydroponics (same thing but without fish) you can grow plants without any medium at all.. they just hang out in the water. but you have to add fertilizer every couple of weeks in order to give them the nutrients since there are no fish.

    Thank you for the video
    Do you need to filter the fish water before adding it to the plants or is it ok to add it unfiltered?

      Hi there! you're welcome
      I highly recommend to filter the water and remove the solid waste before go to the grow beds.

    How often do you add the iron and seaweed to your system? And would the system work in slightly colder temperatures around 50-70 degrees?

      Hi there !
      When you see the leaves are not green and not healthy, you can add ,
      Yes can work in colder temperatures , you keep the Fish that adapt to cold water.

      I have heard that Tilapia will self regulate their population based on container size.

      Same ratio with a regular fish tank. Make sure they have plenty of swimming space.
      Even if it's an aquaponics sysyem check the nitrates. Too high means might be too many fish and could lead to death.

    I have this idea of making 3 aquaponics systems one for younger fish one for medium fish and one for mature fish
    The idea is less water is needed for younger ones if it's seperate.

    What happens to the solid waste that build up in the swirl filter? Will they get broken down completely ? Or you need to clean it occasionally? Also do you need to change the water often?

    • @DIYGARDENWITHBB
