One of the major specialities of Tendulkar was his effortless batting. This made batting look easy, even against such legendary bowlers as Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, McGrath, Ambrose, Walsh, Donald, Steyn, Warne, Muralitharan, et al. His strike rate was phenomenal for his generation. Until he was on the crease, India was always in the driver's seat.
179 to be precise. And thus started the problem of the 170’s as for many years Sachin couldn’t get past this classic 179. I remember screaming in disbelief when he got out for 177 against Australia in Bangalore. And I’m sure there were a few more knocks in the 170’s. But this was pure blissful batting against a tough and strong WI. Thanks for sharing!
Yes .. in test he scored 5 scores in 170s.. Other 170s being: 177 vs england @trent bridge 1996 177 vs Australia @Bangalore 1998 176 vs Zimbabwe @Nagpur 2002 176 vs West Indies @Eden Gardens 2002
This WI attack wasn't necesarily strong. They were missing Ambrose and Bishop who didn't tour India due to injuries. Courtney Walsh was the only world class bowler in this attack. The likes of Kenny Benjamin was just emerging and Andy Cummings was a fast medium who didn't have much pace . The spinner Dhanraj was ordinary
Yes true he got stuck in this zone for a long time till his double hundred in 1999 in the third innings in a classic test match where India folded for 83 in the first innings against New Zealand. That match was always as Good as the Eden epic in Kolkata.
@@shanthakumark7540 I think you have dementia so go back and check the records in espncricinfo. The New Zealand series we are talking about the first test only at Mohali and Tendulkar scored 217 in the second innings after India had folded for 83 (corrected from 75- i also had to look at the records ,but my 75 was pretty close to the actual 83)in the first innings .It was the first time i saw a team score 500+ in the second innings after not scoring even a 100 in the first innings. Kiwis narrowly escaped a defeat after being 7 down in the fourth innings and game ended in a draw.I still remember even the last wicket to fall was of Stephen Fleming caught of kumbles bowling. The reason i remember is that it is unheard of that a team which fails to get to hundred in the first innings was looking to almost win that match. If you can't remember something maybe you can take brahmi saag in your diet for better memory .
What I love about this innings is Sachin dishing calypso style hooks and back foot drives against WI. And the one and only Sobers admiring the one and only Sachin.. cannot get better than thjs.
Hallmark of Quality in the Entire Innings from Defending d First Bouncer to Agrressive Hooks, Back Foot Punches by Using the Depth of the Crease & Fluent Front Foot Drives as Well.. a Typical Classic SRT Innings
This is the tipping point in a friendship. Vinod Kambli's career was being destroyed by the West Indies fast bowlers.....and Tendulkar was climbing on the road to greatness. And how did I miss this Tendulkar innings- it is easily one of his best, against REALLY good bowling. Those hook shots (including the one he got to 100) were shots no Indian could play. And Kambli was taken out & destroyed by those exact same balls.
Oh my God. This is the best thing I have seen in a while in social media or TH-cam even for that matter. Almost 25 years since I saw this last time....what a knock...a privilege. A tight slap to those who say he had nervous 90s....dude this little man conquered all even before u can mug up your formulaes in school. Moment of the video: that hook 6 off great Walsh to get to 100 and the fist punch....rare of the young man...that's what being young actually is : fearlessness. Wish he was forever young. GOLD upload
Kohli is present of India. The pressure on Kohli is enormous. However arrogance has made things tuff for him but if he is anywhere near Tendulkar then it shall show up.
What A man ❤❤no one can play straight drive in a good length ball . but this man did it so many times in this innings his ability to punch in backfoot that looks incredible . perfect placement and body balance that is the reason
What is so great about Tendulkar is his incredible technique. He gets into position so early and has plenty of time to play against world class fast bowlers. He’s fearless and he is a beautiful player who scored big hundreds on all surfaces in all countries.
With Sachin....we cant afford to forget even his dismissals....here we are talking abt his 100....proud to be part of sachin's era....as a ardent cricket fan sachin was cricket for me!!!
I am waiting to watch this match after 29 years that time I am studying 6th standard I heard lara caught sachin by taking catch in the air this is the first time I am seeing in video god have blessed me to wait for 29 years to see this catch but I am lucky to watch atleast 29 years after
Tendulkar was an extraordinary batsman in the post-1980 era in terms of technique/skill, consistency and aggression. Its sad to see that most people dont analyse his technical Skill. He was a text book style batsman, slightly more bottom -handed, natural stroke maker and could play all shots in the book. He used to make good use of the crease, improvise using wrist work and play a wide range of shots. A great player of cuts, pull/hooks and straight drive. Exceptional step out-and-charge player of spin. However, he stopped playing his aggressive cuts and step out shots after 2000/01 due to injury. A good player of spin as well as pace bowling, Tendulkar has dominated most top bowlers from across 4 generations, expect few. I would place only few contemporary batsman on par with Tendulkar in terms of technical prowess in the above areas- Graham Hick, Saeed Anwar, Damien Martyn and Daryll Cullinan (Lara was also extraordinary but his batting style was unconventional). People who watch modern era batsmen like Sharma, Kohli, De Villiers and co may feel that Tendulkar was less aggressive but the conditions and quality of bowling back then was much challenging.
Yes I dearly want to see that innings again...I watched in live in dd National in 1994 but no replay those days so never got to watch that innings again...just hoping the uploader here will be able to upload it😀

Sachin was the master of the punch 4:53. Each simple looking punch gave four no need to drive. it's a talent. See his footwork , they desire to come over the ball and to play with authority.
4:22 👌👌 Just a punchy straight drive against Walsh. Ability to hit good balls for boundary. This is what separates him from other top players. Other top players will take a single of this kind of ball.
Do you separate highlights of all three tests? This coincided with my O-Levels back in 1994 After this series, I was convinced that if I ever needed a bowler to bowl for my life, it would be Courtney Walsh
He was indeed the work horse of that WI attack. As skipper for that series the WI were also missing their regular captain Richie Richardson, also missing from that series were were Haynes, Ambrose, Bishop and Winston Benjamin. The WI were on the verge of losing a series but came back to win the 3rd test to square the series. India could have easily been 2-0 after this second test that Tendular scored the 179 not out in

He was an absolute beast during his youth.
Masterclass innings from the great man.
None has played the backfoot punch like him and it's one of the toughest shot to play against fast bowlers alongside the hook shot.
To me, that is his best shot not straight drive.
My first century of sachin.. Cant forget the six of walsh and the punch!!!!
Hi. Mine too. Was also the first match that I saw live in our TV.
At the age of 21 gets a test hundred by hooking a fast bowler for 6 . A genius god who was born to rule cricket 🙌🏻🙌🏻🔥🔥
Yes. Correct. I never saw this legend hook in most of his innings. Super excited watching this at the age 21!God of Cricket. No doubt.
Not just any fast bowler, Courtney Walsh!!!
Great innings...six against walsh was a sensation
Perfect balance n elegant batting..
Those straight drives gave grammar lessons to any cricketer learning batting. Both in backfoot and in front foot ❤❤
