I have a shih tzu mix dog, I adopted her at 10 (she’s 13 now) and I keep her short as I live in Australia and it is usually very hot, but when it’s winter I let her hair grow out and she’s completely fine with brushing, I could do anything to her and she wouldn’t get upset. The only time she’s been matted was when I first got her and she was really bad, she was the first dog I ever had and I didn’t realise how small her ears actually where until I tried brushing them and discovered it was matted (her ears were down to her knees) so I carefully observed her ears, and started snipping I couldn’t get over how short her ears where once I was done ( it took like an hour as I was being very cautious) then I took her to the groomer, got a full shave down and she’s had perfect hair ever since :D

I brush my dog almost every day I have all the tools and my dogs hair still gets tangled and matted his undercoat is a beast. He is super huge and his dematting process is a 2-3 day event. Sometimes he sits still others he’s like nah’. Only down side of having a BRT cute and fun but def high maintenance with hair 😖😖😖

Make sure you invest in a metal comb and a slicker brush. Get in between the legs and hind legs, back of ears and muzzle. That's where they get most matted.
Brush every day. Get a rake comb and slicker brush and metal straight comb and detangling spray. Most dogs enjoy it. It’s relaxing to do at night to wind down. 🐶🥱😴

I wish all groomers were as gentle. Poor baby has so much junk on his eyes and face. But I know how quickly it accumulates we have shihtzu mixes. We need groomers like you in our area.

The groom is fantastic, very skilled.

I’ve been brushing him everyday, bathing him regularly trying to get him to adjust. (He hasn’t been hurt or anything, he’s just scared.) he was so difficult last time, my groomer said she wouldn’t do him anymore. He’s getting pretty matted because his hair is so long, I’ve got to figure out a way to groom him myself. Any tips? Thank you!
