I’ve been catching up on your videos after finding your channel last week, and you have some amazing stuff! It blows my mind that your channel is so small at the minute, but there’s no doubt your channel will explode. 1k by Friday easily. Looking forward to seeing more from you, if you ever find yourself in the eastern US, feel free to give us a shout. Cheers! - Harrison
@@barnydillarstone They're one of my top animals so I can imagine how you must have felt! Hopefully one day I too will get the experience of witnessing a bow mouth guitarfish in person
Holy moly! I'm in awe and jealous at the same time. What an awesome encounter. It saddens me to think that the generations after us may never even have the opportunity to see one of these amazing creatures. Magnificent!
Yeeeh man!! There are some very impressive groups working in the area to help bring these guys back. Luckily, they can be bred in captivity and released - they're already doing it with zebra sharks in the area. Would be awesome to see some little bowmouths swimming around. When are you heading over to Indonesia?
Thanks man!! Easily the coolest thing I've ever seen. Who knows what else is down there (but I'm going to drop some cameras to find out!!). Have you ever seen one?
@@barnydillarstone Mate, I haven't seen that species but around Queensland there's the related guitar fish which is relatively common in our waters. We did see a similar one in Komodo but didn't get close enough to know exactly what type, so who knows, maybe we did!? The shape was similar. Look forward to the new footage to come.
Amazing finds! lol at the cow fish having a poo right in front of you. The nerve 😅But yes, the guitarfish was a treat for sure. Disheartening to hear about it's status in the fin trade 😥😢 A cruel and unnessesary practice indeed. Thank you for bringing attention to it.
I couldn't believe it! I was looking at a small crab at the time, and turned around to see it swimming towards me. I'd only been chatting with a friend the day before about the possibility of seeing one in the area 🤯 the cowfish are hilarious - I also found one about an inch long that's coming up in a video soon!!
what a lovely interaction with the guitar shark. Last year, I encounter a guitar shark and her baby in similan island. But they swim away quickly when we try to get closer to them.
Oh that's awesome! I was really lucky with this one - I stayed with it for over 15 minutes and it wasn't bothered by me at all. Is the diving in the Similan Islands good? I'd love to go.
I don't think it is a mimic. There are a lot of mimics at this site but there's this other species (the one in the vid) that looks and behaves very similarly. They don't have the white tentacle edging, or the eye tufts, or the right colouration, and they're much more secretive. I might investigate further next time I'm in the area. Have you seen a mimic before? I've got a video coming out on the mimic soon.
@@ysukharenko I need to investigate further! I must admit, when I first saw it I thought it was a mimic. I'm sure there's lots of undocumented species in the area - this could be a weird localised population.
Oh another question! Just curious. Are the lionfish considered invasive where you are? I heard in the Carribean, they actually incentivize people to catch them as much as they can due to their invasive nature there, however in other places like In places like the Indo-Pacific region where they are native, they pose no threat, or I could be wrong?
Nope the lionfish in Indonesia are supposed to be there, although I was having a conversation the other day with a friend about whether their numbers are getting too big in certain places with lots of divers given they use divers' lights at night to make catching food easier! There are a lot of big ones. The main issue with them is that they just don't stop eating. They're actually pretty tasty! Would you try one?

Yes i think quite good especially the richelieu rock.
Octopus looks like Mimic Octopus. Not sure for 100%, but most likely.
Same!

@@barnydillarstone Yes, I saw mimic once, that why I think it's mimic. For me looks the same and hide in hole in same way.

Looks like Melasti Amed, we spotted this guitarfish month ago in area, so cool it is still here
checked the photos - yes, it is actually same guitar fish (same small triangle damage on dorsal fin)
