If Julie Andrews was a 10 while playing this iconic role than Emily Blunt was a 9.9, less luminescent and luminous by this mere smidgen of a smidgen of a smidgen. Emily Blunt more than held her own, as she shined very brightly and amazingly, oozed much charismatic appeal and magnetic wonder, nailed all the finer points and personality quirks seamlessly, and gave Julie Andrews this outstanding run for her money, otherworldly and divine as both were/are👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
You can’t compare the two, and you don’t have to be negative. Julie was pleased that Emily was chosen. It’s 25 years in the future. There are no comparisons.
"I was flying a kite and it got caught on a nanny!" "We are still not a Codfish." Yes, it is, isn't it. No, I couldn't possibly. D flat major. You too. Nothing's gone forever, only out of place.
I'm squeeing and gushing and giggling in the middle of a crowded food court and i don't even care. Mary Poppins telling Michael to "close your mouth; we are still not a codfish" had me rolling. Love it!!!
Mary Poppins Returns is the very first Disney movie sequel/Disney animated movies that I've seen that risked their old graphic animations. I mean, without the 3D anymore. I missed the old style cartoons, I just havent seen Disney making these old graphic cartoons for a long time now, thanks to the Disney Marshal magic.........
Emily Blunt is a beautiful and charming English actress, however no one could ever replace Julie Andrews who was ultra stunning, a natural performer and epitomizes an English rose. Her other roles in the Sound of Music are timeless and unforgetful.
I agree. This one strikes the wrong tone to me. Julie was competent and efficient. This one is haughty. She just lacks Julie's natural charm. I think she has the better voice, but the character is all wrong. She does not match the original, which is what she is supposed to be.
@@natromcom9646 Yes I read that. But the movie references the original Mary Poppinns. Therefore she should have been like her. If they were going to stay true to the book that is fine. But they should have just had her appear as a fresh new character, not say she is the former one.
@@natromcom9646 you were not rude...I thought I was rude. I think I just like the original better. You were right about Blunt being more like the book character. She has to portray it as directed. I just wish they had made her more like the Julie Andrews one. BTW Do you know about Julie Andrews early life? Very poor and chaotic.
I love Lin Manuel-Miranda he's got the cockney accent down pat!! This movie looks great. I remember my grandfather taking my 7 year old self to see the original MP and I loved it so much. I never missed a chance to watch whenever it comes on. I hope it does well.
I love Emily and cannot wait to see this. But I cannot help myself but wish they had made this sequel long ago with Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. In my minds eye I plug them in to the delivery of these lines and songs. Julie Andrews, tried not to overshadow this production by refusing to be in it, she cannot help it, her shadow falls all over it. Her Oscar was well won. While Emily is delightful but her characterization pales in comparison to Ms Andrews who lit up the screen an WAS Mary Poppins, and always will be
kennetpon , Your right Julie Andrews refused to be in the new Movie she didn't want fans to expect her to be in it even if as a new character or a brief cameo. she didn't want to take anything away from Emily's version of Mary Poppins. Julie Andrews is happy for her but if she was in the movie the focus would be on her and not Emily and she didn't want that.
I hope you'll amend your opinion after seeing this movie. The original started me on a girl-crush for Julie Andrews (I still have the soundtrack LP). I just saw the new version and LOVED it.
My girlfriend and I lost it when Angela Lansbury came on the screen. Neither of us knew she would be in the movie and the tears were flowing, we both LOVE her.
Quite a number liked what I said. This is very good. Thank you for that! This is probably the story that Julie Andrews would have loved to have done. I think that she'll be seeing this film too. Again thank you for that.
I saw this as a kid many decades ago like many of you. This sequel looks to be just as good as the original. I'm so excited to see it. I normally don't like things like this either. I'm not a big musical guy. But this is going to be incredible, I just have that feeling.
And it lived up to everything. Wow. Thank you Rob Marshall and Emily Blunt. It was more than I expected. Thank you for making me feel like a kid again.
I remember Mother taking us to the premiere back in 1964. We were in the station wagon ready to pull out of the driveway and I smarted off to Mother. BIG MISTAKE. She simply turned off the ignition and went in the house. My sisters asked why she did that. Mother said “We’re not going and you can thank your brother for it”. It took a whole week of best behavior to redeem myself. I’m now 65. I’m going on opening day provided I don’t smart off to myself. 😂

If so, since the first Mary Poppins book was published in the 1930s and Doctor Who didn't start until the 1960s, she's kind of the original Time Lady. Or at least the first one known to Earth.
John and Annabel were the names of two of the five (yes, five) Banks children in the Mary Poppins books. Don’t know where they got Georgie from. The remaining Banks child was a girl named Barbara.
@@ruthhayler4783 Yeah, probably. I imagine that since his story was such a big part of the first movie the writers decided to give another nod to the character.
Mary Poppins: "my goodness, Annabel what have you done to your clothes? You could grow a garden in that much soil and John you are just as filthy." Georgie: "I was flying a kite and it got caught in a nanny." Mary Poppins: "close your mouth please, Michael, we are still not a catfish!" Jane giggles.... Mary Poppins: "Jane Banks still rather inclined to giggle I see."
CURIOUS??? WHY, at 5:26, is she looking grim out a darkened window??? I'm really happy to see a really good follow up to this movie with rich imagination and thought. These clips look fantastic. 👍💓🎈👌🏻🎈🎈🎈🎈

Most of the "captions" in English are not right at all. For example: "Paddu" (??) doesn't mean anything, What she actually says is "And you too". The child with the kite says "I found it in the park", not the pot. Mary Poppins says "Close your mouth please Michael", Jack says " C'mon, have a gull" Mary Poppins does not say "Knew I couldn't possibly" but "No, I couldn't possibly", Jack (when Mary Poppins arrives) doesn't say My living break" (this dos not make any sense); what hs says is an English idiom: "As I live and breathe", Annabelle says "Us", not "Oh" When Mary Poppins says "I've come to look after the Banks' children", Michael does not say "few things fall into pieces" but he says "Everythin is falling to pieces", Georgie says "I miss mother" not "famous mother" (this woudn't make any sense at all), Jack says: "It's good that you came along when you did Mary Poppins" and not It's good thing..., the balloon lady says "you've forgotten what it's like" and not "You forgot what it's like", In the final part of the clip Mary Poppins responds to Anabelle "Even the imposiible", not "if it be impossible" (sense and grammar are wrong there).
