Dylan Streibig her career was one injury after another it’s amazing she lasted as long as she did I miss her
Your right, but look at what she was able to accomplish in spite of the injuries. Just incredible. Such a competitor. I miss her on the court too, but am glad she is no longer putting her body through hell.

Henine was such a brilliant player. Great defense, so fundamentally sound, incredible mental composure, that bonkers one-handed backhand, and the best volleyer on the WTA tour of her era. Sharapova was a better version of Kvitova and Sabalenka.
Just looking at her record. I didn't realize that she has a career slam. To do that from just 5 slams is remarkable and shows her versatility.
Compare this to today's wta matches. Jesus Christ they look like two different categories.
WTA is literally a Challenger Tour.

@@AoDk673Is true, the WTA at moment is a joke. The 2024 Australian Open final was a joke too. Apparently the girl that lost in the final, in the tournament she didn't face anyone in the top 50 en route to the final.
Problem is slowing down courts has made players play with just spin. So u don't see risky shotmaking anymore. Flat hitting is there but it doesn't win slams..every tournament plays like clay. That's why iga is dominant. Her spin game won't have won her slams in 2000,s

Henin was doping too. Clijsters tried to get the authorities to take action but they wouldn’t. It’s speculated that’s why she had an immediate ‘retirement’ that lasted the same length as a suspension.

Less screaming (sometimes even completely silent), more good hitting and better point construction than usual, better net play, no bad glances at her opponent with even a nice final kiss, and winning against a great player... this was by far the best Sharapova ever, focused into producing great tennis and not in wasting energies with screams and pumping fists. Not the best day for Justine, who usually handled Sharapova well, but Maria played great.

wait wait she barely makes noise in the early part of this match, so mostly her grunts have been to try and intimidate...no surprise
it’s more physically exhausting towards the end of the match. on very few occasions does maria not grunt. serena chooses when she wants to grunt. and can be just as loud as maria. serena will stay quiet for the first set and scream the second. or only grunt for the later part of sets or even only grunt during the later parts of long points. consistent grunts are less of a distraction then players choosing when to grunt. if you hate maria for grunting then have that same energy for the rest of the players.
cue the insipid “so much better than today” comments. i can name 5 matches this year already as exciting as this one.

I loved women's tennis back then. I could name every Wimbledon and US Open ladies' champion from 1925 to 2019. Nowadays, I can't even be bothered to read the results. All dinglydonglypinglypongly with nothing exciting to watch, let alone talk about.
