How i miss this train. I lived in Port Washington(Main St.and Manorhaven) from may 1998 to december 2009. Today i live in Brazil again. In my days off i traveled to NY by train in the morning and back after 8 PM, off-peak time. I hope to visit my friends in Port Washington this year and take the train again. Great video!!
I commute from Manhattan to Great Neck, so thanks to this video I finally know what the rest of the trip looks like, such as how the line goes from two tracks to one.
Me too, I live in Great Neck and I go to Flushing Main Street and sometimes Penn Station soon in the Future Grand Central Madison, I never knew what was the rest of the line looked like
They need to add a second track to the end. If right of way is the issue (I see some houses very close to the single track), they should just go above as the 7 train does in some parts of queens.
As a Sydneysider I think nyc subway has opportunity to be very classy like moscow or Sydney. The station platforms are very dirty and old, but it’s a big network and I’m sure the mta could probably afford to upgrade the stations and make them as nice as the ones in Sydney. Here in Sydney all of our stations have shelter and the platforms are all kept clean
I’m gonna be honest. I would enjoy it more if it was real time with the audio and maybe speed up at the train stops. Just my opinion though. Otherwise great video 👍
@Ali Muhammad i am right. 4k video files are very larger compared to 1080p, 720p,etc. Especially with 60fps. It will take hours to upload the video on TH-cam in his PC
It’s mostly because I heavily post process the footage to reduce noise. That increases the processing time to around a week, and uploading a 200GB video file takes quite a while too. I’ll do my best to get to it! Lots of videos coming up soon.
I was born train-insane. I was raised in Roslyn and when we didn't ride the Oyster Bay line into Penn Station (Change at Jamaica) we would ride the Port line. Edna St. Vincent Milay actually got this line from me: "There isn't a train I wouldn't ride, no matter where it's going". Now I'm old and near the end of the line and I live in Ecuador. I still "ride" the DJ Hammer trains to quell my train jones whenever I get the calling. The memories are too many to recount.
Love the beginning of "Travel" "the railroad track is miles away, And the day is loud with voices speaking, Yet there isn't a train goes by all day But I hear its whistle shrieking."
As a viewer of timelapse rail videos, there is one thing I have learned from watching Chicago's CTA official rail videos: Mute the music, and watch in 2x! Maximum speed, minimum distraction! Wheeeee-eeeee-eeeeeee!!!
The whole line is electrified for using third rail so there is no need for diesel trains to go through. Furthermore, there are lots of bridges on the line where a double decker car is to tall to go through.
If you did this in real time it should take you 45 minutes because my mom used to work in Port Washington Amsterdam Harborside next to the nice bus Harborside stop.
Ron Troy Yes, the line is single tracked east of Great Neck. Double tracking this section will be very difficult due to the terrain and soil condition neighboring the Manhasset Viaduct
@@kkparis Does that cause problems or bottlenecks? Seems to me far enough out to not make that much of a difference. And why some trains only go to GN. Though I'm guessing more would go all the way if it wasn't for the single tracking.
Ron Troy The single track works but is far from optimal. PW is a more or less a yard. The trains feeds into the yard (PW) at night and drains out at the morning. But that means the line will halt to a stand still during disruptions, which is why some trains turn short at GN. It’s also very wasteful for the fleets cuz many times they have to sit in the yard as there is no way out.
It is about 40 miles from Penn to East Northport. Fastest train of the day is scheduled for 62 minutes (though once I saw it do it in 50 minutes without breaking a sweat. Worst train of the day with transfer takes about 90 minutes - less than 30 MPH. I try to imagine what it would be like to have the train do it in say, 40 minutes. But for GCT travelers, it will never be decent because LIRR knowingly bought double deckers 20 plus years ago that would never fit in the 63rd Street LIRR tunnel to GCT. Oh, and LIRR does not seem to intend a viable transfer from diesels to GCT.

How GREAT that the Flushing line just happened to be going across as you came out of the tunnel.
M3 is a beast! Best train along with the M1!
Nice upload DJ, happy new year's to you
Thanks! Happy new year to you too! :D
This station is Woodside.
This is a train to Port Washington
The next station is Flushing- Main St
They need to add a second track to the end. If right of way is the issue (I see some houses very close to the single track), they should just go above as the 7 train does in some parts of queens.
This is awesome!

This isn't the New York Subway. This is the LIRR Commuter Rail. Also you've had a one line metro for like a year, of course its clean.
This was my daily - Penn Great Neck for about eight years. (Before that it was the L to the J or the A for my job in lower Manhattan)
Very nice video and so relaxing to watch, going to give it a like!!!
I love the music What’s it called
I like trains
How long is the commute?
Since this was sped up 10x, I could say 40 minutes end to end.
54 minutes
Its a 46 Minute ride from Penn Station
Cool! I want to go on this line soon!
2:03 ayy J-Mart!
I´ve been there before since 2018
I love non-peak on this branch. It really reduces the ride time.
Damn I wish the trains ran this fast in real life... maybe I get to work on time 🤷🏾♀️
I’m gonna be honest. I would enjoy it more if it was real time with the audio and maybe speed up at the train stops. Just my opinion though. Otherwise great video 👍
He will upload the normal version soon, its a very large file definitely because the route is long and its at 4k 60fps
modzel26 oh ok that’s fair
@Ali Muhammad i am right. 4k video files are very larger compared to 1080p, 720p,etc. Especially with 60fps. It will take hours to upload the video on TH-cam in his PC
@Ali Muhammad it actually takes him like 4+ months to upload the footage for him for some reason i don't know why

Fantastic video
This is my line and Great Neck is my stop!
This needs to play in Penn station
Great video!

what song is this?
I really like this video if for nothing else the music chosen if I had a copy of that I would listen to it often and on loop
Just out of curiosity, how come LIRR doesn't run diesel/bilevel trains on the Port Washington Branch?
The whole line is electrified for using third rail so there is no need for diesel trains to go through. Furthermore, there are lots of bridges on the line where a double decker car is to tall to go through.
That train handles like it's on rails!
The train is on rails
Whats the name of the song, it fits so well!
Hey this is my line! My stop is great neck!
Mines Over on the montauk branch at bridge Hampton
Finally doing LIRR
So they allow you to film?

What’s the song used for this?
Amazing!
i take this everyday to get to school!
mast video man
What is the BGM
"This train is heading to Ronkonkoma, the next station is Ronkonkoma"
It should say something like "The next and last station"
@@ihatemylife4756 It just says "the next station."
This is scary bc this was j on my yt and I used to live in Port Washington.
What day was this
If you did this in real time it should take you 45 minutes because my mom used to work in Port Washington Amsterdam Harborside next to the nice bus Harborside stop.

Is part of the line only single-tracked?
