    Not gonna lie, swimming looks like lots of fun without legs. Not that I’m swishing to be in his situation, but the way he flips around looks fun. He’s pretty amazing.

    • @ebnyhund7848

      As a training exercise in my swimming lessons, we had to do a width without using leg power. Trust me, it can be fun at times but it is extremely difficult if you’re not used to it/have little upper body strength

      @@ebnyhund7848to be fair, he doesn't have the added weight of the legs, although yes he's gotta be super strong omg!

      @@ebnyhund7848 although the difference here, and what the op was getting at, is that in that case you still have all that resistance and dead weight attached. Without legs would deff feel different, probably still a lot more exhausting if you're trying to swim laps, but from the perspective of flipping around and stuff for fun it probably isn't that much more draining.

    My great grandpa loved swimming. He had no legs and was made fun of a lot. He used to go to Coney Island after dark , mind you, this was like 1890’s , and he swam at night.

    My dad is paraplegic, and as a family, we used to go swimming recreationally at the YMCA all the time. The pool there literally was one giant ramp, so we’d push his wheelchair a few feet into the water, and he’d pick up himself out the chair and then kind of float out. He’s getting older now so I’m not sure if he could. I also have memories of him swimming in the lake, too. So, swimming with no legs, or useless legs in my dad’s case, is not impossible!

    Once i had an injured knee but I went to the lake anyway, an while sitting on the peer with my crutches taking full effort getting in there was that man in the water, cheering me on like crazy. I got in and was so proud and I said litteraly "see? I went into the water with just one leg!" In this moment the man cheering me on swam to the peer and pulled himself out laughing as crazy, revealing that he didnt had any legs. We both had a good time though.. 😂😂

      Even if you’re an adult, it’s never too late to learn to swim! There are adults-only swim lessons at my pool and we get people of all ages and experience levels, from people who’ve never swam to people relearning after an injury. A good teacher will help you learn within your comfort levels.

    • @CuriositySoup
      @CuriositySoup 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should (in my opinion of course) learn to swim in an adult course. Or maybe just learn it with a friend/family member.
      I've always hated swimming until I (somewhat) learned how to swim last year. And I also almost drowned when i was 14, so I can totally understand
      how terrifying it is to swim in the deep end. But it's an absolute blast once you're a decent swimmer.

    When I was younger I would sometimes try swimming without using my legs to better understand what someone without legs would be going through. Same thing with just using legs and not using my arms. It’s different but very doable, and especially if you didn’t have the weight of legs you can speed around and wouldn’t get as tired. I love swimming for working out.

    Even though I do have legs they're not much help when I swim. I've gained so (too) much weight over the years that my butt finds it easy to float, hence my legs do frog movements in the air. It's very fascinating. I can also stand strait up in the water without moving a fin. Think fishing bobber.
