Here is what Billie told Vanity Fair: “When I was 12, I saw Aurora’s ‘Runaway’ music video,” “Something inside me clicked, like, that is what I want to do, no matter whether it goes anywhere or not.”

Daniel, Helene here. I discovered Aurora almost three years ago, at the age of 72, and she was one of the artists who convinced me that there was much creativity and beauty in modern music. You just had to look for it. Her catalogue contains many gorgeous songs…..she is in the tradition of Joni Mitchell…whom I have always loved. If you are familiar with David Bowie’s song Life on Mars, Aurora does an amazing cover. She also is breathtaking in her cover of Teardrops by Massive Attack. For more of her own songwriting, I would suggest The Eyes of a Child, live at Niderosdomen.

Wow, great reaction!! Love how you go deep into understanding the lyrics and the respect and wisdom you show. Aurora is an artist that goes deeep. Her lyrics are unmatched, her voice as well. Along with that she is bery unique and has maybe the loveliest personality of them all. I really hope you continue on this journey. Aurora is so incredibly rewarding to discover. You will not be bored for an instance. BTW Aurora is usually best live. You have to see her and how she embodies the songs when she sings them. Seeing her live doubles the experience, at least.

I flippin live Aurora! I was so curious about the ethereal voice from that famous Frozen 2 song. Then I found running with the wolves and the river. Her covers are amazing- she did God is a woman, life on Mars, and across the universe ✨ 💖. She is so otherworldly in interviews and communicates in love!

Watch any interview with Aurora, Daniel. She’s an absolute wonder. Purely authentic. Her live performances have to be seen. Runaway and Murder Song 5,4,3,2 1 are musts seen live. She also has a song called The Seed, which is powerful and very emotive. The young lady is a breath of fresh air.

Aurora is a musical genius from Norway. She is 25 now. She has great videos, but shines in her live performances. Check out her 3 performances from the Nobel Peace Prize concert. She is touring with a new album currently, which is great, but I suggest starting with her previous albums, videos and live performances. You will be blown away. Every song is so different. She is a wonderful human being with a great love for people and nature.

Yes! You've finally discovered Aurora. Lovely reaction - I especially liked your deep dive into the lyrics (her lyrics are always thought-provoking). You really need to watch some of her live performances - they are a whole other level of amazing.
Aurora is the total package - singer, songwriter, musician, dancer, producer/arranger, choreographer, and an absolutely lovely human being (and she’s just 25 years old!). She will often perform her songs quite differently - sometimes with her band, other times stripped down to just her and one instrument, a cappella, with full orchestra, etc. - so it is definitely worth listening to different versions of the same song. Also, her videos are mini-masterpieces as well.
A short list of original songs:
Runaway - Nobel Peace Prize concert and her music video
Through the Eyes of a Child - Nidarosdomen concert, my recommendation Live Stripped - VIVO UK Lift
It Happened Quiet - Nidarosdomen concert, but I'd recommend the live at The Current version as well
    Churchyard - Live on KEXP
Winter Bird - Nidarosdomen concert and her music video
Murder Song 5,4,3,2,1 - Nobel Peace Prize Concert
    Lucky - Nidarosdomen concert
Little Boy in the Grass - Nidarosdomen concert
The Seed - Music Video, HAIK Concert
The River - Music video, Live in Bergen 2020
Exist For Love - Music video,
    Daydreamer - Music video
She also does some awesome covers:
Life on Mars - David Bowie
    Believer - Imagine Dragons
God is a Woman - Ariana Grande
Across the Universe - John Lennon
    Teardrop - Massive Attack
    Rasputin - Boney M
And of course there is her recently released album which is pure gold!

Daniel, it is about time you got around to Aurora!! Another incredible Norwegian artist, along with Angelina Jordan, Sissel and Sigrid who I just learned about. Aurora is such a free spirit and provides entertainment beyond her singing. No doubt she fully embodies each song she sings.

Fun facts about the Runaway Music Video:
It was shot late autumn 2014 and winter 2014/2015. She was 18 at this time. She wrote Runaway at the age of 11-12 and finalized it at the age of 14 (That was for the school project, she mentioned in the interview).
The parts, where she wears the furry top are shot at the west coast of the Drange peninsula, less than a mile away from her parents house.
The parts in the forest were shot in the same forest where she played as a kid, less than half a mile away from her parents house.
The parts, in which she wears a thin white cardigan and with some trees in the near background and the island of Lysøya in the background, are shot actually in the backyard of her parents house in Drange.

You should watch how the music seems to take over her body in her live performances, like the version of this song from the Nobel Peace Prize Concert. Also from that concert "Murder Song 5,4,3,2,1" , which goes into those dark areas which were mentioned to you. Another good one is "It Happened Quiet" (Live at the Current).

    Great reaction 🤗
This is Aurora alright, she’s amazing 😍
You will see that she’s even better live
“Runaway” live at the Nobel Peace Prize concert is amazing, much better than the music video 👍
But she has some music videos that are a must to watch 😊
She wrote this song when she was 11 years old, and at that age she didn’t quite understand the meaning of the song. But as she grew older she knew that “home” meant home to her parents ❤️
The music video is filmed on her parents property and in the forest she spent a lot of time alone in growing up
During an interview with Vanity Fair, Billie Eilish discussed her influences. “I find a lot of inspiration through visuals,” Eilish revealed. “When I was 12, I saw Aurora’s ‘Runaway’ music video. Something inside me clicked, like, that is what I want to do, no matter whether it goes anywhere or not.”
AURORA (Aksnes) is a Norwegian singer/songwriter/dancer and music producer.
She plays several instruments like piano, guitar, mandolin and harp (what I know of).
She’s born on the 15 of June 1996, she’s from a small place in Os outside of Bergen, and is currently living in her apartment in Bergen 😍
When she was 6 years old she found an electric piano in the attic after her older sister.
Because the power button was broken she had to play with only one hand, and she did that for years.
She began writing music without lyrics at the age of 6, and with English lyrics at the age of 9. A couple of her songs that she wrote at the age of 9 is some of her most popular songs.
They are “Lucky” and “I went too far”
Her family didn’t know about her talent until she was about 13 - 14 years old.
She’s self taught when it comes to singing and playing piano.🤩😍
Could you please react to AURORA with:
“Through the eyes of a child” live from Nidarosdomen (cathedral in Norway) 2017
This is, among with “Runaway”, one of her most important songs
“Murder Song (5,4,3,2,1)” live at the Nobel Peace Prize concert 2015
    “The Seed” official video
This is a powerful song and music video
    A cry for Mother Earth
The music video is a masterpiece 😍
    “Lucky” live from Nidarosdomen 2017
She wrote this when she was 9 years old, it’s her anti - suicide song

Billie's connection to Aurora was what she saw in Aurora's music video - it wasn't about wanting to sound like Aurora - Aurora inspired Billie's desire to express herself artistically through music and music videos.

Very good reaction. I do like you going a bit deeper into the song :) I can recommenced you looking into her LIVE performances, example the Haik-consert and the Nidarosdomen-concert. Think both these concert shows a good part of the essence of what Aurora is about :)

Aurora is a fairy come to spend awhile with us. Her voice is angelic! She moves to her inner muse with secret flows of emotion. Please react to her live concerts as she is just so breathtaking amazing live! My favorite song is Through the Eyes of a Child sung in the oldest cathedral in Norway Nidarosoman. That entire concert is like nothing you have ever heard or imagined!❤❤❤

  • @Geralt26
    @Geralt26 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Cool reaction.
Love Aurora's music and lyrics. Hard to go wrong with her music - only personal taste can tell you what you will like particular songs more or less.
If you listened a song she wrote at 11, I would recommend great performance of song she wrote (at last partialy) at a age of 9. It is Lucky (live in Nidarosdomen).
I like how you checked meaning of the song. I also like this subtle difference/detail, that at first she just saw a face in a sand, she did not try to actively remember it she just remember it but it was not true (as this person is not absent anymore) and vanished from her hands (f.e. someone who is missing, maybe someone who passed away and it can be about fresh grief).:
"I saw a face in the sand
But when I picked it up
Then it vanished away from my hands"
    Then it is again:
    " I was painting a picture
The picture was a painting of you
And for a moment I thought you were here
But then again, it wasn't true"
This time she is actively try to remember this person and to paint this picture. It is like a later phase of grief. In this phase you want to remember but some details fade from your memories. But anyway it was not true again, as this person is no more.

I love Aurora and have for quite a few years. Just as I had said I was so sad to miss Joe Jackson end of April in NYC due to medical reasons, I also had to miss Aurora who played last Sat in Central Park. The difference is I have seen JJ many times; I’ve never seen Aurora. Oh well, she’ll be back. Everyone’s spirited fairy... it’s amazing how many fans think of her this way and are so protective of her.
She does a terrific cover of David Bowie’s “Is There Life On Mars.”

Aurora wrote Runaway at age 11-12 and in another interview a few years ago, she said she lost her godfather at age 11, so I think it is likely that it is him she was missing when writing "saw a face in the sand" and "The picture was a painting of you".
In the Genius video she made last year when it went viral, she said the line "I saw a piece of Heaven, waiting in patience for me", was about a branch breaking when she climbed the tree, and it made her think that she could have died and what that would mean.
Here is the original quote from Billie Eilish about the music video inspiring her: youtu . be / y9tyECALPps&t=133s
"Was there a particular artist or song that you listened to growing up, that you like: 'Thats it! I have to do music, because that just spoke to me'."
Billie: "OMG, I grew up on so many, so many artists, but I feel like the moment...Actually I was like sitting on my bed, and I was like 12, and I had already started writing music, I just did it for no reason, kind of random, I have a lot of things I need to say, and I did not know how to say them.
But I remember sitting on my bed when I was like 12 or 11, and just like surfing TH-cam as you do, and there was this little video and it was called 'Runaway' by Aurora, and I had no idea who that was, and I had no idea what the song was, but the thumbnail looked cool, so I clicked on it. And I remember just sitting there and the intro played, and I just was like: 'Oh! That's what I wanna do', and then it just like, immediately I was just like in love with that whole idea."
Aurora has made 20+ amazing cover songs besides "Scarborough Fair", like "Life On Mars", "Teardrop", "Across The Universe", "God Is A Woman" etc. etc.

I *_really_* hope you take a deep dive down the Aurora rabbit hole.
Runaway is far and away her biggest song....but nowhere _near_ her best. For starters, you gotta check out Lucky at Nidarosdomen, Under the Water at the Honda Stage, and It Happened Quiet at The Current. After that, there's SO MUCH MORE great stuff. Also....Aurora is a legit amazing human being. AND she's a huge Tool fan! I know you are too. She's a metal fan in general, and often talks about her love for Gojira, Tool, and System of a Down in particular.
Her favorite Tool album is Aenima. Her favorite smell is people who just had a cigarette....and lavender. She's friends with Brian Eno. And she had a pet algae ball named Igor Septimus...RIP 2016 - 2019.
I know WAY too much Aurora trivia.
I discovered her almost 3 years ago....and her music, and her humanity, legit changed my life in some pretty profound ways. She's the best....
