    I've been in New York the past few months and March and April were indeed dead. I heard ambulance sirens around the clock it was honestly scary. Though our numbers are on the decline things are not "normal". It's important we are still socially distanced. at this point every new yorker knows someone who was sick or who has died. Unfortunately i have had quite a few friends confirmed with Covid and recovered and those whose parents/grandparents have passed away. Its been hell for many people experiencing this not being able to mourn and be with their loves ones. I haven't seen any of my friends living in the city for months and we continue to socially distance ourselves. Stay safe. I love new york the city has gone through A LOT and people are having cabin fever so that is why people are out, not that its necessarily safer we still need to be cautious.

      Yeahhh she said something to the effect of "people make it seem like it's a ghosttown but it's not like that." Like yeah, it's mid May. The weather is beautiful now. Of course it's not a ghosttown anymore. The privilege is strong with this video. She wasn't here late March/early April when there was no one here. I live a few blocks from a public hospital in Brooklyn and I remember the ~2-3 weeks of constant. ambulance. sirens. She can say that seeing people wearing masks is sad, but she wasn't here for the sirens and seeing bodies being loaded into refrigerated trucks with a forklift like what we had to walk past any time we needed to go outside. It's surreal.

    • @christinefrazier
      @christinefrazier 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      M belanich Sorry you have been through it too.. I have family members working in the hospitals... Showing NYC now does not represent what has happened in NYC and is misrepresentative of most New Yorkers experience. For all of us that have been here we have experienced a lot it has NOT been "normal" if you were here March/April when there were very dark times. The curve is down so its a little better now than it was. But at the time there more than 7,000 ambulance calls a day at certain points like it was 9/11 times. It was horrible I could hear sirens all day. New Yorkers who have actually been here have a very different experience. People need to understand New York has SUFFERED. New Yorkers have SUFFERED. Over 15,000 deaths in NYC alone. That is 5 times more than 9/11. It's important to acknowledge we are a city and people who have suffered. That is why we take it seriously. Conditions have changed over the weeks so it is better Thank God. it is different now then in March & April when it was so bad. Also wearing a mask in NYC is a sign of respect to others around you!

    Honestly it sounds weird but everyone wearing masks brings me a little bit of joy. You wear a mask to protect your neighbor, not yourself. Everyone collectively wearing masks to keep their community healthy even though wearing a mask sucks reminds me that there’s still selflessness and compassion alive in today’s society.

    I'm in Boston - one of the top 5 states in terms of COVID related deaths and it was pretty eerie the first month I would say and then as the weather started getting nicer more people are out and about but with masks on! Or they'll have it off and quickly put it up again when they see people approaching. But yeah its the same case here, most places won't allow you inside if you don't have a mask on. It does feel "normal" but It's just super sad not being able to socialize, hang out at coffee shops and grab drinks at the bars. :/

    I guess it makes sense that there are more people on the streets of New York, because of higher population density. Here in the suburbs of SF Bay Area it's almost a ghost town. (I've seen about a dozen people and half a dozen cars while walking my dog for half an hour. Although these suburban streets aren't busy even in normal times.)
    Do the stores in New York also make people line up outside 6 feet apart to avoid crowds inside the stores? (Here every large store has an employee outside letting people in only when other customers exit.)
