I am glad to see that I am not the only one that does not change the adjustable razor setting when I shave.
Nice list! I had no idea that the Timeless has an opposite twist! I have the Icon DLC along with the X and the DLC head is more efficient with more blade feel. Well, I'll give you the list I have; Homelike Shaving slant, All metal Fasan, Krect Spiral Twist, Yaqi adjustable slope razor. The Yaqi is probably the most intriguing because they've done something different from the traditional slants and the adjustment works a little different too. Also the Krect prices have finally gone down some and are in the more reasonable zone. Have a great weekend Brother!
I will agree the alpha ecliptic razor is the best out of the ones you showed. Great video!
Thanks Matthew!
@@Tobins_throwbacks I heard PAA also made a black one
Your shave den has to be the best in shavedom! Great top 10 Tobin!
I'm a lucky SOB for so many reasons! Thanks man!!!
The "slanted throwback" intro was/is a great touch 🙏👍👍
Thanks 🙏👍👍
Yaqi has a 3-piece adjustable slant, it's called the Ultima Slope and it's made of Stainless Steel.
I was looking at that, do you own it? The Price tag of $145 will likely prevent me from buying it anytime soon.
Have a good one and thanks!
Another fantastic video Tobin! Keep them coming! 🍻
Thanks, will do! Have a good one🙏
Great slanted video, Tobin 😊
Thanks Robert! I hope you had a slanted Saturday 😅
@@Tobins_throwbacks 😂😂😂 yes. Especially with my Kdenlive on Linux! Long story it's my editor!
Great list of slants. The only slant I have is the Merkur 37c. It’s a great shaver. On my next to buy/try slants is the PAA alpha and the timeless slant. Have a great weekend Tobin!
Thanks Manny!
For $54 and free shipping that Timeless is a great deal.
Have a great week!
Hell yeah, great top 10 vid! Thanks Tobin!
You bet!
Nice, I did not know that the Hoffritz was made by Merkur, great info! I have the HB SR-71, I got fairly early into my journey with DE razors, I don’t care for it at first, almost got rid of it. I’m glad I didn’t! There is a bit of a learning curve but once you learn to let the weight of the razor do the work, it’s a great shave!
Yeah, Merkur made razors for a handful of Department Stores back in the day. Hoffritz is the main one that it talked about today and I think that is due in part to the sheer volume that Hoffritz ordered.
I love the Sr-71, I agree it does have a curve. It looks badass and shaves like a dream!
Have a good one
Great list of razors, I've seen most of these used by many. I have yet to try a slant razor. I also like all materials for razors. After trying a few aluminum ones I really like the reduced weight which helps out when my carpal tunnel is acting up. Have a great weekend
Thanks Mike, consider grabbing the Timeless sometime. Or any of the ones from PAA. I seriously recommend giving slants a shot.
Hope you're having a great Saturday!
Thanks Tobin!
Thank you!
Another great topic and video Tobin. I cannot find to buy some of American slant razors that you listed here in Türkiye🇹🇷, but I noted them. Hopefully someday I can try them too. And also thanks for your informative and joyful videos, keep them coming... 👏👏👏
Thank you!
Man, sorry to hear that. What about the European pr Australian vendors?
Have a great week!
What's crazy is that just today I got a Filament from PAA as my first slant, just to try it, and you come out with this video. I'll have to see about the aggressiveness because now I'm a bit worried, but then again, I might be okay. I'll test this and see how it is. If it's too aggressive, I'll try the Phantom Blue Slant later.
It's not too aggressive, it's just more than the monsters. The Double Slant and the name of the Monster series sounds scary 😊
Let me know how that first shave goes Dev!
Have a good one!
Great top 10! I can feel your passion for the hobby!
Thanks! 👍
Informative & comprehensive.. thank you
Glad it was helpful! Thank you!
Your number one is the only slant that ever made me say "oooh"😂
😂 man I love it!
@@Tobins_throwbacks it is aesthetically stunning
I have most of those still need to get the SR 71. You should also try the slope stainless steel from Yaqi in the adjustable from Yaqi
Thanks Cedric, I haven't tried it. I'll check it out 🙏 hope you have a great Saturday 👍👍
Great lineup, Tobin! I was leaning towards a slant (see what I did there?🤣) and maybe the Parker because of the affordability and Amazon's return policy. Also the sign looks great!
😅 definitely give it a go, especially if you've never tried one.
Thanks Sam, hope you have a great Saturday!
Excellent video sir!
Thank you kindly!
Great looking razors I have tried slants and just don’t get along with them. The one I really liked was the timeless slant. My son liked the timeless more and permanently borrowed it. I found for me a standard razor is a better shave. I have not tried a slant adjustable though, although I just got the Rex ambassador and love it. Great list.
I have the Rex Envoy and love it! What setting do you use your Ambassador on?
And thanks Dan!
Hello Tobin, Do you have a Gratiot Krekt-Shave Razor, made in Portland OR from the late 1930s to the mid 1950s? The early ones were made of chrome plated brass and had a very unique cam style handle that used the thickness of the blade to secure the handle to the baseplate. The later ones were made of zamac and had a standard screw on handle. There was also a middle model that was part brass and part zamac. The early ones are my favorite vintage slant, and can more easily be found in the Portland area than anywhere else.
No, I WISH! I need to look for them! I travel to Portland for work.
I had forgotten all about that razor.
Thank you!
Do you know of any that are available?
@@Tobins_throwbacks There are a couple of the later zamac models on eBay now for too much money.
Interesting video and I only have one slant and it's Parker Semi Slant but might go to PAA and look at their slant razors.
Thanks! Do you enjoy the Parker? What do you like or dislike about it?
Have a good one!
@@Tobins_throwbacks it's good razor and not too aggressive but it might depend on which blade I use in it like Astra or Nacet but did try Feather and it makes it more aggressive than other blade in it.
🙏 thanks!
You're welcome!
Nice list. I also like slants. My 1st. was the 37c. To me it was not very efficient and the knurling on the handle stinks. Then went Parker Unsemi slant. Recently I got a Yaqi Adjustable Slant. It was less than half the price of the Consul. It shaves nice. I don't think that I should buy any more razors. Taking bets ? Take care
I agree about the 37c I wish it was more efficient like the vintage. And the knurling does need to be a little better.
I'll take the bet! I bet that you will 😅
Have a good one!
That thing is not normal aluminum tho, it's aluminum 7075 which is used in avionics which is one of the toughest alloys of aluminum out there.
Exactly! Super rugged! And, I think the post is stronger than that of many others.
Have a good one!
I have the Parker and I agree 👍 I don't see or feel the difference
I'm convinced the "semi" was/is a marketing thing
Hi Tobin, I have never shaved with a slant. My next PAA order will rectify that! Best regards, Glenn
Curious to hear your thoughts on both when they get there Glenn.
Hope you guys have a great Saturday!
Love the energy level & the tin foil hat clown😂😂
Didn’t realize you were such a slant razor fan. Interesting lineup & order!
You didn’t say you didn’t try it or if it just didn’t make this top 10 but for me the best slant & adjustable in general for me is the newer yaqi Ultima slope slant razor. The Rex Konsul was too much blade feel for me. I used your same settings to tame it but for me the yaqi is way more adjustable, smoother, less blade feel.
The fatip Lo storto was too mild for me. So is the new timless slant.
The timeless slant is the smoothest slant I’ve ever used but even with a feather I can only get a DFS.
I have my father’s vintage hoffritz which is what started all this hobby for me. Pops used that razor as a boy & I often watched him. One day he took the blade out and let me shave with it 😂.
For me the top slants are the yaqi ultimate slope, Parker semi slant, hoffritz.
Very interesting too me the Parker was #10 for you. Try a Gillette 7 o’clock yellow in the Parker. It’s a smooth combo!
I’ve been tempted by the PAA abs razors and the ecliptic but heard/saw many reviews of ppl saying they are very aggressive and that was by slant users so I was reluctant…..
The Alpha is very efficient, but the abs razors are on the mild side, especially the Monster Series. Grab a glow-in-the-dark Monster sometime, I think you'll be surprised by how mild it is.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Parker. I rearranged the order like 5 times before finally making myself commit to an order lok
The opposite twist is a trip!
Of your slants which is your favorite?
Hi Tobin, once again I appreciate the review of the slant razors. I have had some thought on trying one of the slants from PAA and wanted to verify that the monster series are all the same in design, just different colors- right?
Thank you, yes sir that is correct. They are the same. Two of them glow in the dark.
But they all shave exactly the same.
If you buy one curious to know how it goes if you have any questions don't hesitate to reach out with a DM
Have a good one!
@@Tobins_throwbacks you’ll have to forgive my stupidity on this one, but how do I dm you? The only other contact I have is the email address I reached out to you on originally.
I have the filament and the ikon x3 and for me the filament feels better than the ikon. I don’t know why.
I agree, I prefer the way the Filament shaves and with it being an homage to the Fasan it add a touch of fun to the shave.
Have a good one!
What's a FASAN, Tobin?
🤔 😂
Have you tried the razorock superslant?
I have not, I would love to at some point.
Do you have one? It has different head options correct? Like plates?
Have a good one!
@@Tobins_throwbacks yea I just got it and it’s great, I messaged them at Razorock, asking them which plate would they recommend to someone who likes using the Gamechanger .84 and they recommended I’d try the L2++. So I bought the L2, L2+, L2++ and L3; and they were correct, I do prefer the L2++. Seems to me to feel just like the GC .84 In blade feel but more efficient!
@@Tobins_throwbacks yes I just got one a couple weeks ago and the shaves have been really good, if not the best. I have the L3, L2++, L2+ and L2 base plates. Personally I like the L3 and the L2++ base plates the best, very efficient and smooth!
Merkur 37c (newer version) and 39c heads are not the same. 37c is milder and better.
How is it milder? The gap?
Not sure where you heard that. I wanted to double check so I emailed Merkur.
Below is there response.
Hi ,
Yes, models 37 and 39 are both the same slant head. Please let us know if you need any further assistance.
Jim
Merkur Shave
merkurshave.com
@@Tobins_throwbacks where I heard that? Nowhere. I have both in my hands right now, 37c and 39c, and the heads are different, the comb and cap are not the same. The comb teeth in the 39c are slimer and have a different shape than the 37c ones, and the space between them, bigger. And the 37c guides in the cap are smaller than the 39c ones. I only use 37c, 39c is more agressive but not better.
@davep.7737 Good deal, I was wondering if it's what people are saying in forums. Merkur has always maintained that they were the same. Makes me wonder what's going on with yours. Everything about them should (according to Merkur) be the same except for the handle.
I wonder if it has something to do with the mold for the Zamak head.
You are officially being called out for referring to a razor setting as "aggressive ".
Stop. You said so.
I cringed when I watched this. Oh brother....I'm going to need an intervention 😅
@@Tobins_throwbacks I will be passive-aggressively tutting at you each and every time😋
Merci pour cette vidéo ! Slant for ever !🫶 tout à fait d’accord pour les PAA ils sont simple et efface
Et en old school j’aime mon Valencia ! Bonjour a vous de France 🇫🇷
Merci ! J'adore ces petits rasoirs PAA. J'aime vraiment que je puisse avoir l'équivalent du Fasan vintage pour une fraction du prix !
Bonne semaine !
