MUSIC: Helen Miller / LYRICS: Estelle Levitt
We wrote on the corner of the table
This is the only one that will last
For you, for me, for always
Forever was made for us but
For us it went by too fast
    Don't say you don't remember
    I'll never love anyone else
If you say you don't remember
How can I go on living with myself?
When we meet you always call me "baby"
How could it be that you forgot my name?
    Before you go, be honest
    I belonged to you and
Believed that you felt the same
    Don't say you don't remember
    I'll never love anyone else
If you say you don't remember
How can I go on living with myself?
People never stay the same forever
Somebody always loves a little more
Tonight I need to love you
    Together we'll find a way
To make tomorrow worth living for
    Don't say you don't remember
    I'll never love anyone else
If you say you don't remember
How can I go on living with myself?

This 70s heartache ballad by Beverly Bremers is so good, it deserves its own video... so I made one. The photos are from Beverly's website (check it out):
    www.beverlybrem...
Released in 1971, then re-released in 1972, "Don't Say..." peaked at #15 on the charts in February 1972.
Beverly Bremers remembers composer Helen Miller on Helen's memorial Facebook page:
"Helen Miller was a genius, a lunatic, and a tough cookie, who lived life to the fullest - loud & large. It was a privilege to work with her on "Don't Say You Don't Remember". She knew what she wanted & she got it. I also recorded the demos for "Inner City" with her and the amazing Carl Hall, who later performed in the show. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to be in it because of a commitment to another show, but I sure wish I could've. Great songs in that show! What an amazing body of work she created in her life! Anyone who has ever crossed paths with this complex woman will always remember her ; - ) I miss her music, her spirit, & her dirty jokes. I even miss her yelling at me."

I think she also did a lot of work on Broadway, so her career was split between making records for the radio and doing the non-radio thing on Broadway. But you're right. It seems like her record company could have found more hits for her. This song was a "hit" and Beverly made it that much better.

Downright gorgeous and touching. Beverly's delivery is perfect and the arrangement is moving, as are the lyrics. I wish that younger people would come to see the beauty of such good music and abandon the electronica and auto-tune musical culture in which beauty, body parts and personal success seem to be the dominant considerations. As a man, I love the lyrics to this song and the valid message of a woman who says: "I value your love - where is it?" "People never stay the same forever." Such meaningful lyrics. Well done, Beverly! A song that always touches me.

Wow!! Just listening to some of the heartbreaker memory makers ........ I saw “Don’t say you don’t Remember” Tears came rolling out of my eyes. I haven’t heard that song for at least 40 years, but when it started playing I could sing the arrangement, and every single word. I loved this song! I am so happy to have it back in my life. Thank you! Thank you!
And PLEASE ......... Don’t Say You Don’t Remember!

So.... where the heck is Beverly Bremers now in 2019? At 69, she could STILL be performing at all the usual places, such as here in Las Vegas.. (We LOVE oldies performers/ singers!)
I very well remember this song when i was a pilot in the USAF in Viet Nam in 1971-1973. I could listen to it late at night with headphones and cry to myself, wishing I was back in the USA.
What a voice! What a song! I still remember the follow up "I'll make you Music" later in 1972, as well. I thought I'd find Beverly Bremers all over on TV and in live shows in 1973 when I returned from the war back to the USA...
Sadly, I couldn't find her anywhere in the USA thereafter.

Because the "oldies" stations are really superficial and formula-driven ....

    • @birdsfan57
      @birdsfan57 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Randall Webber ...And because romance and courtship have been replaced with hook-ups and hook-jobs, rap and hip hop, whose themes revolve around "gonna get it", "gotta git it", and today's generation of women willing to "prostitute" themselves for a chance to take a "selfie" with a guy to post to their Snapchat, Instagram, or Facebook accounts, to prove to their peers that they're worthy of male affection. Tattoos, piercings, using vulgarity when speaking to guys and having guys speak to you in a similar manner. Trying to "Keep up" with the Kardashians, instead of "Keeping them in your rearview mirror". The music industry and media have poisoned and brainwashed today's generation; succeeded it dumbing it down and "ghettoing it up", to the point where music like this is a lost art and will never be appreciated enough to be produced again. What a tragedy!

I remember playing this song over and over on the turntable in my bedroom back in '71 when I was 17. Even listening to it now, i can still feel the deep emotion I felt inside for the young boy I was so in love with back then. Sadly, our relationship ended (my fault) but when we reconnected on Facebook about 10 yrs ago, I learned he became a born-again minister with 10 children, so maybe it all worked out anyway : ) Thanks for recording this song. It remains one of my faves.

Still loving this song. What a beautiful, robust voice! This is what made music so great!

I have had this song stuck in my head for 40+ years, and I didn’t know the title or the artist that sang this song. But I knew if I kept at it, I would get both title and artist. I found out a couple of years ago, and wow! I’ve got my satisfaction. This song was on the radio in the Atlanta area back in the 70’s on WQXI , and I would wait patiently until the song would play again. This song ranks into my all time favorite songs, because it has such a hauntingly beautiful melody. And then the lyrics! Somebody always loves a little more. That is so true! Thank you Beverly , for giving this song to us. It’s a gift from God, sung by an angel!! Can it get any better than that?!

I'd love to return 70s when this was a hit I was in high school and so in love. I was 17 yrs old back in 1972

Interesting. I only remembered hearing the title sung, not the rest. I was 11 at the time and don't think it was played much. Had I heard the rest, I would have played it over and over, as I am doing now. On the other hand, How Can You Mend A Broken Heart was released the same month, and had tons of airplay. As good as that is, this song is even better.

If I live to be 100 I will never understand why Bremers didn't go on to enjoy hit after hit.
She had a truly wonderful voice; was actually a far better singer than many of her
contemporaries. She also certainly was easy on the eyes too. It's so sad that she didn't
go on to conquer the charts. :(
