This has made me remember not only how much I miss their dynamic but also this crazy crack theory I used to have that Rory was originally supposed to play the role of Clara in series 7.
He died once for the Doctor in series 5, he has a father but his mother is never mentioned to my memory, and it would’ve been a nice conclusion to his relationship with the Doctor as he goes from being not his biggest fan to the one who saves his life, plus it somewhat nicely relates back to his profession as a nurse.
No hate to Clara though, love her, this was just a dumb theory I used to have lol. Point is I love the more minimal and subtle friendship between the Doctor and Rory.
