  • Note that, despite its name, mongolicus does not occur in Mongolia. Inhabits the valley of the Chu River, Balkhash-Alakol and Zaisan depressions (in the latter it was found in the middle of the 19th century and was re-climatized here only in 1983). In recent years, it has settled to the west (Chu-Ili mountains, Zhetyzhol ridge), and since 1998 has again begun to meet at the Chokpak pass and in the upper reaches of the Arys (Syr Darya basin), where it has become common.

    Well this explains the different feather colours on some of the Common Ringed-neck pheasants near where I live....(Eastern Canada....and wild)
