      Uh oh! The new latch is in, but the door isn't opening. Could the cable be stretched?

      you might need to bend that little metal thing that you snap the cable on. it has too much play/space

    I had been putting this task off for about 3 months, and finally broke down being tired of not being able to load stuff in the back. What should have taken 30 mins or less wound up taking 45 to a hour because I couldn't find a T-27 Torx bit to take my license plate off. It had nothing to do with the instructions which worked like a charm. Kicking myself for sitting on the brand new part, and not installing it sooner. Great job!

    This is the best video on how to do this. Thank you. Only thing is all you need is a 10 mm for socket. Roll rear window down an inch or two so that you can slide window assembly down a few inches to get to the two 10 mm nuts. Great video.

    I have watched lots of videos and truth be told this is about the best that I have seen on TH-cam,what he/she did that others did not do is that he/she focuses and zooms on the particular area that he is working on so it allows for a better understanding of what is been repaired.Thanks for the wonderful job and like somebody said there is no talking which of course causes distraction and if at all there is the need to talk,I think it should be minimal.

    Extremely helpful video. Fixed my hatch and saved hundreds of dollar because of it. I was actually able to squeeze my hands behind the power window assembly so I didn't have to take it off. Really appreciate the vid.

    Great Video! i watched about 1/2 dozen and yours is the best method. For you guys trying to do this yourself, follow this video and you'll have an easy time of it. one tip - before you start, drop the rear window about an inch. you need a philips screw driver and 10MM socket.

    I just wanted to give you a HUGE THANK YOU for taking the time to record this and post this excellent video. It was a nice little repair and didn't take long to do, about an 1 1/2 hrs. I had difficulty with getting the panels back on as a few of the plastic fasteners were broken after removing. This may help some in the future, pick up a bag of these. I will replace the fasteners when I replace the rear window motor to our 2003 Sequoia.

    This video saved me around $200! I was able to replace the latch myself and I'm a woman who has never worked on a car and drank two margaritas while doing this! I was able to follow the steps but I got pretty messed up trying to reverse the steps. Maybe a series of reverse photos at the end would help. And I'm sure less margaritas would have helped. In then
    end, I did it! Thank you so much!

      +Valerie Wiens Awesome Valerie!! Maybe next time have only 1 margarita. LOL Couple years ago, I drank a 6 pack of beer while I was working on my truck and placed the fuel filter in the wrong direction. LOL Never again drinking while wrenching. lol Now you could use some of that $200 to buy more tools. I'm happy for you because you did it and you are a woman. Hey anyone out there looking to do this fix, make sure the latch you bought works well. The one I bought doesn't have enough flex to pull the cable, so still cannot open properly. My new latch's mechanism is not made to "exact" specs, so it's best to buy the more expensive one, other wise it's back to trying to jury rigging!! But for sure Angel has the best instruction!!

    This video was very well done. It is the best one out there that I have seen. One tip that might make the job even easier would be to lower the rear window an inch before you start. I had some difficulty getting the rear window mechanism removed and remounted because I started the job with the window all the way up. This made a very tight fit with the mounting holes and required a little sweat to get the threaded bolts to drop through the holes. Other than that everything worked just the way it was shown in the video.

    Thanks for the great video. While I was at it replacing the broken latch handle, I also removed the brake for the window that was preventing rear window from moving, the defroster was not working, and the rear window wiper blade was not working. removing the brake fixed all those issues and saved well over $1000 if I took it to repair shop.

    Thanks for posting this video. I was able to replace my latch handle with minimal effort. For other viewers attempting to do this, please first verify the handle is in fact broken. It will be loose. If it is still taught, you may just need to lubricate the latch (at the bottom of the door). The black cover snaps off easily. Also, if you go through with this, be VERY careful removing the panel that holds your license plate as you can break the tabs off. Additionally, when reassembling, make sure the keyed lock is sandwiched between this panel and the door panel. You can see in the video how it is positioned before you take it apart.

      hear you speaking bisaya! I have a question mego. last winter, I use the 4wd of my 03 seqouia, after turning off, its so many hours before center flashing was off. after that the operation (on and off) was working fine. This morning there was a light snow so I switch to 4wd but when I turn it off the center light keeps blinking. Hopefully just like the last it will be fine. my concern is, If I continue to drive my seqouia with the blinking light on, will it distroy my tranny. Your info will greatly appreciated Mego. Thanks Clem

    Ok, I'm Female but finally have time to learn how to do these things for myself. Well TH-cam makes it all possible and video makers make it easy. I reviewed about 5 of these and found this the best. Every step was shown, no blah blah to listen to, just plain here's how to get it done. My Mexican friends would joke to me and say: yeah the Mexican version was the best! And it was! Thanks...

    Thank you worked like a charm. Only problem I encountered is with the gold thing that lifts/lowers the window that has 4 screws. If your window is all the way up it's practically impossible to get that thing loose because the pressure the window puts on it. I lowered my window 1 inch and it wiggled free easily.

    I am having the same issue plus sometimes it will not lock the hatch at all. My concern is if bgg it's because of the door handle or the door lock/ unlock actuator. If it's the door handle that is broken, the door should not be able to open at all, since it's broken like in the video. I am leaning more toward my actuator being bad to where it does not unlock my cars at sometkmes and I end up pulling the handle but nothing happens. But if I forget it for a day or two, it'll work again. Then there are times when I can't lock my hatch at all. But again, if I wait a day or two, everything will be fine again. I will just have to open it up and see if the handle is still intact if it is, then I move onto the actuator.

    Instead of messing with the window actuator, simply pop off the lower two (of three) rubber plugs at the top-center of the lift gate. With a 6" extension, you'll have direct and easy access to the latch's nuts. If done with the lift gate open/up, the nuts will stay resting in the socket. If not, they'll fall into the lift gate--but they're quite easy to fish out.

      +Hernan Espiritu at the lock mechanism, where the cable snaps onto, you need to bend that metal to remedy the extra slack.

      +Fix It Angel, Did you mean at the Back Door Lock which is on the other end of the cable? Okay I'll do that. I decided to attach a secondary cable as an emergency release on the inside as additional modification so far that's the only option I'm using to unlock it not from the outside. But thanks for the suggestions.

    • @FixItAngel
      @FixItAngel  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, Hope it works. It is pretty hard to bend. I did it on one vehicle and it worked. Thats good you attached a secondary cable. Welcome. Please share and subscribe.

      Nicolas Roque only way is to replace the electrical plug. Go junkyard and see if they have it. That’s what I would do.

      I don't think that's what I was speaking about, it's the tool that you used to release the hatch. Kind of looks like an ice-pick, with a twist at the end.

    • @FixItAngel
      @FixItAngel  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh sorry, it's actually a pick that is curved. you can find it in amazon or ebay.

      I thought it was like an oil seal puller or something special. It looks like it has a twist on the end like in a helix/swirl shape. Appreciate you responding, I am going to have to tackle this soon. I think I can put new rubber isolators on my Mustang with that pick too. Sweet!

      You can buy picks at just about any auto parts places. Sears sells them for sure. It just looks special because of the camera angle. I also have an upholstery puller as well for pulling out those plastic retainers.

    You don't have to remove the power window assembly, there are holes drilled specifically so you can get a long socket extension through the gate to the 10mm nuts that hold the handle in.

    • @FixItAngel
      @FixItAngel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ok thank you for the comment.
      It's good then I got it done without going through those holes. There is always another way. Thank you for the comment.
