- I have restored dozens of Thonet chairs, but this time I wanted to do it differently....
LAZER : amzn.to/3k63wbD
Thonet chairs are most iconic chairs of all times. They started making them since 1850 and they are still made today. Their design is one of the best that has been ever invented. The chair is made out of beech that is steamed for 5 hours and then formed into metal molding. This method gives very durable structure. Rumor has it, that Thonet chair was allegedly thrown down from the Eiffel Tower to show how well made its structure is and it survived.

The man with a 1000 g-clamps! What craftsmanship, what integrity, what an eye for detail and also a sense of humour. I could never do any thing like this, I'm in awe of your work, bravo.
There's a saying among quilters that she who dies with the most fabric wins. I wonder if the same is true for woodworkers and clamps.
@@freethebirds3578 That would be too easy :)
I always notice the number of clamps being used! Glad I’m not the only one!

I love watching these videos and seeing a real top craftsman at work.
It looks like an original that is in impeccable shape.
Hahahaha cool. The classic outro music is back. It just feels wrong without that cheesy riff
Very pretty chair! Im happy you restored it back to period appearance! It looks so much nicer!❤
Imagine have these chairs in the dining room, and every one of them had a different one of those beautiful patterns they came in!
Absolutely Fabulous restoration ! Came out looking like new, as strong as when it was made, and
with an improved design on the chair seat. This is where Craftsmanship meets Artistry !
I’d never seen one of these with anything but the drilled hole pattern. This ended up very lovely
I've got one with a relief seat but it's very badly worn and barely recogniseable in some areas. The wood is stained a very dark red. My aunt wanted to get rid of the chair and gave it to me, telling me it was completely worthless. Considering she's a professional art restorer I tend to trust her.
The Thonet chair No. 14 was the first model built in the new bentwood technic (in 1850). The seat came with viennese braid. Later the seat also was built out of plywood, blank, drilled or with embossed ornament. I love the Thonet furniture. The classics as the modern ones.
@@Ragnar8504 A genuine Thonet is never worthless.
Gorgeous and such craftsmanship. I actually just bought this laser yesterday for my husband’s birthday. He does woodworking strictly as a hobby and I saw someone else I follow (who does woodworking/furniture restoration as hobby as well) use it, so I’m excited to give it to him. Just loving your channel, I’ve binge watched your videos this week and am in just awe at your work.
Beautiful chair-I love the design on the seat. Tested sitting down….not a single creak. 👍🏻. Excellent job-as always.
I love the design you chose for the chair seat and the lazer was fun to watch. I am curious how the patterns were originally done as I am sure they did not have lazers when the chairs were made. Thanks for showing the old catalogue of patterns that were available, I do like the one you used, great job as usual.
My guess is that they had a big iron plate with the pattern raised above the surface, and they basically used this as a big branding iron in a press to burn the pattern into the flat seat before forming it. I've seen that sort of thing done in a lot of old films where they were making furniture, boxes, or even fancy cakes where they wanted a label on it. I don't know for a fact it was done this way here, but it seems like a reasonable guess.
OMG! Amazing timing! I have two of these I need to restore and I've never attempted it before.THANK YOU!
A true craftsman. Beautiful work. Thanks for letting us watch.
Gorgeous! Another job very well done sir.
Also, "crunchy woodwork ASMR"- LOL Love it! 😆
What does ASMR stand for?
From Wikipedia: Autonomous sensory meridian response, sometimes auto sensory meridian response, is a tingling sensation that usually begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine. A pleasant form of paresthesia, it has been compared with auditory-tactile synesthesia and may overlap with frisson.
From Oxford Languages: noun
a feeling of well-being combined with a tingling sensation in the scalp and down the back of the neck, as experienced by some people in response to a specific gentle stimulus, often a particular sound.
"ASMR is triggered by things like whispering voices, paper tearing, and scalp massage"
Your videos are excellent and thank you for teaching me so much. I am self taught and learning. I recently restored 100 year old sash windows and thanks to your videos rebuilt sections, repaired sp.its, secured mortices. Thanks a million.
Windows are good way to start as a restorer.
Ahhh yes, much better than before.
Beautiful restoration. Would love a chair like that, especially after you have restored it so amazingly well!
Wonderful video!! Great work. And no talking… what a treat!

Thanks for the history of the chair, I have never heard of them and appreciated the new knowledge! Great job! God bless you and yours.👏👏👏👏👏😊
Since I first saw your videos it became the most interesting way to spend my leisure time. Not only watching . I started to restore old pieces of furniture of our family. God, its so interesting! Thank you - you have changed my life. I am an amature oil painter, people say not the bad one, but restoring old things seems more interesting for me.
It is good to see a Master at work.
Thanks for your video. I also enjoy restoring old furniture!
Beautiful day. I admire your work. You have no idea how much I would like to meet you here in Slovakia. I have a chest of drawers over 100 years old from my dear old mother, it is damaged and I have no one to restore it.
Wow. Just, wow! I’m so very jealous of your delicious tools! Beautifully done.

This is awesome! I have two of these chairs. I found them at a beach in the sand as a place hold er for a car. Scooped them up. Love the idea.
I admire your work, I watch movies with great curiosity and inspiration. Soon the old bedside tables and the dressing table were renovated with a wooden mirror from before the 1st World War
Night and day transformation!! This chair is gorgeous!
Beauty-full chairs. Great job.!
Greetings from México City 🇲🇽
Your finishing skills are amazing 👍
My great aunt used to have these chairs in her small kitchen
Brings back wonderful memories
Not sure if my aunt has them stored in her loft now x
Day and night difference,,,,,well done!
8:56 These oval head screws are quite hard to find! I needed one to complete a restoration of a pair of Thonet 233 style chairs. Could only find them in stainless steel so used it on the underside where it wouldn't easily be seen, and hand coloured the head with a marker pen to match the others. Your video has given me some useful tips - thanks!
8:45 Can't see whether you used glue - should the legs be glued into the seat base or press-fit? Thanks.
Nice! Yet again I learned quite a few things, even about this chair I thought I knew well…
The vice grip on the screwdriver trick you used is amazing, and I can’t believe I never thought of that! My day job is signage at a zoo, and we get a lot of stuck screws, and I’m totally using that! Beautiful work!!
Beautiful restoration! So glad i found your channel! 💙👍
Another nice restoration friend, looks good, now you can sit down and have yourself a cup of coffee, have a nice day !!!.
Very nice restoration and video 👍
A man with a new toy. Couldn’t be happier
Excellent. Now I know I love thonet chairs
Wow! Love the fancy printer machine thing 😃
That is just stunning! What a beautiful piece of art, and so beautifully restored. So glad I found your channel, you are a master craftsman.
Thank you!
Absolutely top notch start to finish. Very well done !
Another wonderful restoration. Great job!!
What a lovely chair & that seat detail!
What a beautiful chair! I think it’s so sad that they are not being made for people to own today
They are still produced today, they cost around 150€.
Looks like it was made that way. Good choice!
How beautiful became the chair with that ornament on the seat! You delight us with your videos! Congratulations, it is very pleasant to watch your work!⚘
I had to close my eyes for most of the laser engraving. Just to be safe 🤣 Amazing work once again dude 😎
Beautiful as usual. I like that the videos you post are so varied with what you choose to restore. Thank you for sharing your talent!
Beautiful job! Cheers from Minnesota, USA.
I love Art nouveau. Thanks Ahti for another beautiful restauration.
It could be the diabetes, but I felt myself swooning a little bit when I watched you work. You are poetry in motion.
I love that press. Lol. It must be really old. Love the chair too.👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺
Nice restoration. Crunchy woodwork ASMR.
Beautiful. This chair brought back so many happy memories of my life. Thank you.
Such a beautiful chair. You sir are good at what you do.
Hello mister beautiful restoration good job well done my friend
I love the design you gave it. The laser burners are terrific I been checking into them for doll house wood working. Thinking about giving one of my doll houses transoms above the doors, and the laser seems to be the best route to go. You do such great work on the pieces that I have seen. You have a wonderful day
The laser is very cool, beautiful work!
That looks so beautiful once your skilled hands touched it after another's attempt at restoration. When you first showed it and I cringed when seeing the brush streaks on the seat. It is always enjoyable to watch you restore things to make them beautiful again. Thank you. 😊
Having a laser machine for a project like this is a definite plus, but then so is having all those other skills which you have. Beautiful outcome! 🙂👍
That is simply beautiful. Another masterful repair.
that was great- like a perfect cup of coffee in the morning. nice timing- and really interesting!

Yeah, I like this a lot better than all the holes. Looks great!
Perfection achieved as usual. Congrats! 😊
Another brilliant piece of work. Some people get start off with the intention of restoration and end up with inadvertent destruction. Thank goodness you were there to save it.
Excellent workmanship! 👍
You are the best of the best. Sara
The original (before) finish was similar to work done by my late uncle. A dairyman and electrician he could prep the surface, however, finishes were not his forte. Thanks for another excellent video. Narragansett Bay
Before: "Hey that looks alright. What's the big deal?"
After: "WOW! What a difference. A TRUE restoration.
4:38 I like that you have framed artwork in your workshop.
I do like the original seat with the punched holes, but the new design is very nice. 😀
Sooooo much better! You set the standard for the furniture repair and restoration I watch on TH-cam. Beautiful new toy you’ve got for yourself, too. Look forward to your next job/miracle/masterpiece.
