Not every N64 came with the Jumper Pak, when Donkey Kong 64 came out, there was also a Donkey Kong 64 Set which contained the Jungle Green N64 and it came with the Expansion Pak instead of the Jumper Pak bc DK64 came with it and is an Expansion Pak required game

This is the first time I’ve ever seen someone review a jumper. Lol it’s just a jumper what more do you want it to do
It would be pretty cool if the Jumper Pak could do a cartwheel 😅
Honestly though, someone learns about these older systems for the first time every day so I looked to cover all the basics without prejudice or gatekeeping. Around the N64 is when memory cards started and I often get people asking me the difference between this, an Expansion Pak and the Controller Pak and their functions. I'm always happy to provide an answer 😊

The Jumper Pak *exists* - without it, thr N64 will not run.
The Expansion Pak can replace the Jumper Pak, but also increeases the system's RAM 👍

Hi! Expansion Pak will only help game resolution, the Controller Pak is for game saves. That said, GoldenEye saves to the cartridge but Turok 2 requires a Controller Pak for saving 👍

Thank you! The Expansion Pak provides more RAM - the Jumper Pak is basically just a circuit connector. Absence of either and the N64 won't load a game.
The Expansion Pak is required to run Donkey Kong 64 and Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, as well as play the campaign portion of Perfect Dark. Other games support it (better textures etc) but otherwise it's not a requirement. If you only have a Jumper Pak you can essentially play about 99% of the N64 library 😊

So you can have more enemies on screen without the drop of frame rate, I know that’s one reason
can the Jumper pak save the unlockable characters on Mario Smash Bros? I have the Expansion pak but it won't save any of it, I tried 2 times to unlock the characters then restart my N64 to check those characters and they ain't there
Neither the Jumper Pak or Expansion Pak save, you will need a Controller Pak my friend 👍

@@jauzeph You can't save Super Smash bros with a n64 memory card. The game itself has a battery in it that allows for saves. Your battery needs to be replaced.

That's correct, it won't work at all until you install either a Jumper Pak or Expansion Pak in there
u made my day brother there is absolutely nobody talking about this problem on nintendo and people actually sell their consoles thinking its broken
or if the jumper pack does not work, the console will not jump even though it is in it ?

Correct - either the Jumper Pak *OR* the Expansion Pak must be in that port for the N64 to function

....so why didn’t they just make it internal since it doesn’t really have any use by taking it out?
The port allows the Expansion Pak to go in - leaving the port empty essentially breaks the circuit.
Why didn't they just include the Expansion Pak then? Likely due to cost savings.
@@SvennyMcG I’m just baffled they couldn’t find another solution to keep the circuit balanced without needing a jumper pak, but then again It was the 90’s. Also liked how it was child proof 😂, as I kid I couldn’t remove it, now I know why.
I see your point - the from the SNES, PS1, hexk, even the ColecoVision had expansion ports accessible without "chips" in place. True that they kept it well in place but yes, a shame that it can otherwise render the system useless

I wonder if someone can make an upgraded memory pak with even more memory for the N64, so games can run faster, smoother, with better fps? LOL!
I've wondered this too, but then questioned if the RAM would be recognized by the hardware and likely require a firmware update. Definitely be cool to see the N64 tuned up though!
