Nedra and Estelle took over lead singing duties when Ronnie could not go on tour with the Ronettes as the opening act for the Beatles back in 1966. Another girl was recruited to be the Ronettes' third girl on the Beatles' tour. It appeared that the audience (though there to see the Beatles) did not seem to notice that Ronnie was not there or the audience did not care one way or the other.

@@margotalmanzar5210 Some footage of the Ronettes as the opening act of the Beatles 1966 USA tour may exist. I say this because there is footage of the Beatles performing at their 1966 USA tour right here on TH-cam. In fact there is an entire documentary featuring the Beatles performing at the 1966 USA tour which I saw in a movie theatre about three years ago. The whole documentary was the Beatles 1966 performance at this tour. So it seems that the Beatles 1966 tour was filmed by someone.

I was 57 in 65. It’s amazing wat music I’m across & never heard nor seen videos. Talent all one stage. Gotta bd honest it’s bit bubblegum but knowing the grps & those that no longer are here, I can’t deny they were a legend of grps you’ll never see originals again.Haven grown up with a big family of siblings all ages I was familiar & loved what I call the real doowop sound all abt love. It wasn’t until going thru my husbands vinyls getting a record player that I’ve been listening to EVERY song on these albums plus what I hear on utube. Blown away, for my husband 4 yrs older than me passed recently & all I do is cry listening to lyrics missing him, his love for doowop-such good taste for I was a classic rocker though heard frm siblings just abt all of doowop frm them but mostly John-my husband who was not just familiar with the grps, lyrics, but entire history of ea individual. When his bench arrives where his ashes will go into along with mine when gone, he asked to have printed on the bench the song he sang to me upon meeting me 46 yrs ago. 😭 My gosh!, classic rock I luv but doowop can’t compare! There’s a feeling in it you get that goes beyond any song I no frm my era.Day & night I’m glued to all I listen to brging me even closer to John as if he were still here singing to me, :(

Even then this would still be considered a little schmaltzy. Speaking of vocals, this is one of the few times all three Ronettes can be heard. Phil Spector had a way of layering tracks, and it is difficult to tell who is singing what. Across the industry similar things were done. Session singers recorded backgrounds because it was faster/cheaper. The Andantes "ghosted" backgrounds for The Supremes, The Vandellas etc.

Really rare moment of Darlene Love , who sang alot of the Phil Spector sessions . Glen Campbell is rockin out - not his usual sad stuff !

The music of the 1960's was indeed fun but the deceptive appearance of simplicity was an illusion.
