I felt so bad for the mom. His son was obviously going through depression during his school years, and the change of scenery did really well for him. But he left his mom in the dust and all she could do was worry about him because he would never tell her anything. He never even calls her to wish her happy birthday.... I really hope he talks to her more... he will really regret not talking to her more once she passes.

I think people are being nice because there's nothing to really fault him on. He was depressed over his dad's passing and then his injury ended his track career. One of the symptoms of depression is irritability and seclusion. Luckily he got out of his comfort zone and changed for the better. Most people who sit in the hot seat on this show, are assholes and always say "I don't see this as a concern" "I don't remember this happening" but he apologized, was polite, and realized what he did wrong. I don't think he had ill intentions by ignoring his mom. Alot of us take out parents for granted because we assume they're always going to be there. He seems like a good guy, i'm sure now he realizes how much she loves him, and will try better with communication. They just needed to have this heart to heart❤

I felt so bad for the mom, and the father has passed away too. How lonely she must be. I do think the son understood the situation though and I have hope he really will change. I wish this program did updates on guests.
People with good looks has it better, it's facts. Most people in the comments actually cares if it doesn't involve a good looking person but now literally 90% of the comments are ppl talking bout all their looks. Although this boy is different than the others because he knows he's not acting like the best son and he does have a reason to be sad and depressed but the mother is most likely 2x more hurt than he is cause think about not having 2 loved one by ur side at all times.
It hurts to see that his mom was the only one making effort to keep the conversation going . I hope he'll communicate more with his mom in the future .

I like the idea of sending a selfie to his mom each week, either with friends or at different location. That would be a way to say a lot without having to speak much.

Even though I understand his side of the story, I feel bad for his mom. She’s such a sweetheart, she cares for him, she’s worried and for as far as we know hasn’t done anything wrong. Moms like this are so important, if he keeps this up he’ll regret it so much if anything happens to her. I can sense the love she has for him.

I don't think you should say you find your parents messages annoying on tv shows to the public no matter how annoyed you are. You're embarassing your parents and making them sad when they just love you so much and care about it. Wait until your parents is gone you will regret everything and feel lonely and wish that your parents can "annoy" you again.

A boy/man that loves his mother is a man that could love his wife very well. Your mother cares about you because she loves you. She did not carry you for 9 months to burden you.. Some people wish to have a mother figure in life but unfortunately they don’t. You should never take the things you have for granted, time goes very fast. He should talk to his mother, because we don’t know when she’ll send her last text to him. For sure he will regret not being able to speak to his mother one day.

i really relate to the son, i kinda get the feeling that he's exactly like me. i see a lot of people in the comment saying that the son is at fault and how he should be grateful that he still has a mother and such. sometimes, it's not that we don't want to talk to our parents, it's just really awkward. i'm also an introvert and while i do get loud with friends i'm close with, it doesn't change the fact that i'm an introvert. my mom worries over everything and keeps forcing me to go outside and be more extrovert as if being an introvert is such a bad thing. thing like this makes it really annoying because she keeps trying to force me into something i'm not.
my mom also views me as a child so she forbids from doing anything, now i became a 20 year old with not much real life experience with no passion for anything and no idea of what i wanted to be because i always followed what my mother told me to do. in addition, while it seemed like the mother is really caring as she keeps wondering what her son was up to, the son might not feel what the mother was trying to show. my mom always asked me how i was doing, but then when i actually told her how i'm feeling and such, she just ignored it or turned it into a session of nagging. sometimes, she would do the same thing as the guy's mother (saying that there must be something wrong when there wasn't or forcing what she believed had happened onto me) and it made me felt unappreciated and so i decided to just stop telling her and it created a distance.
i know i should try to repair my relationship, but i don't know what to do or say to her because i don't have any example to learn from and i was never affectionate from the start anyway. i think the son might be feeling the same thing i did.
well this turned into a long ranting session, but my point is that before concluding that the son is bad and ungrateful, we should think and consider what the son might be feeling. there's always two sides of a coin.
I was like that too, but being a bit older now and living on my own I look back and definitely regret how harsh I was to her at times. For me our relationship definitely got better when I moved away from my parents (I hope you find a good balance within your relationship too :)).
Although the mom should probably learn to give her son some space and not push her narrative on him (I hated that the most) I do think she would find that a lot easier to do if he just let her know he was doing well every once in a while (with more than one sentence). For her to find out he's achieving/doing all these great things without her knowing is unnecessarily harsh in my eyes. And it doesn't help stop his mother from overworrying either.
But you're right she definitely has to respect his boundaries and personality more. I think it's good he went out on his own and started undertaking things that he liked and decided on himself.

I think after this the son and the mom will definitely be able to mend their relationship, the son just didn't know how to start first and i think coming to hello counselor gave him the chance to start.

My mom ignored me when I was 12 (because at that time my cousin moved into our house and she paid all attention to her) so I started felt lonely. She favor my little cousin. I hope less from my mom because I don't want to be dissapointed. She never asked me how I'm doing at school. Until now even when I'm facing a hard time I always keep it in myself because it's too awkward to tell her. It's been a long time since my cousin moved out from our house and our relationship is getting better. Maybe because she feel guilty? Idk😥 my darkest past
@@kinseybae2450 have you tried talking about it with your mom? while my case isn't really the same as yours, but i told my mom that i felt like she is unfair and that she loved my siblings more than me a few times, both directly and indirectly through letters and such. it helped a little bit
I cried when he sang to her... she seems like such a sweet woman who tries her best for her son, and he seems like he's struggled with depression and doesn't know how to express his feelings well. I hope he calls her more and does more to boost her self-esteem. I hope their relationship improved after this... I can't even imagine how lonely she must be.
Seeing as she lost her husband 8 years ago and now her son lives very far from her and doesn't contact her, I think she must be really lonely. I would have thought that they'd be closer seeing as there's just the 2 of them specially with his mom being handicapped due to having polio.
I think the mom may have been a bit overbearing with her worrying because she's trying to over compensate for being a single mom and for not being able to do more for her son or give her son more things since she's not financially stable because she can't work with her disability.
I do hope that they'll be able to cultivate a closer relationship now that at least they've learned each other's side, and hopefully understand why they act the way they do.

I love that he owned up to his mistakes because it takes courage to do so. He is really a good singer and a jack of all trades. I understand his moms feelings especially since she's handicapped and lost her husband and has only him. He should try to make the effort to take his mom into consideration. Yes, parents can sometimes be overbearing but I know his mom is just worried about him, she loves him. I think if he explained her how he feels or be in touch with her more often she wouldn't worry that much.
I understand both sides though. The mom just wants to know more about her son, but he just wants to be more to himself. I also get annoyed when my mom asks too many questions LOL I think that he's at that age (and situation, considering that he lives away from her) that he'll start to LEARN that his mom just loves and cares for him. He should try to bond with her more before it's too late. I know that it can be annoying, especially when personalities clash, but if you love someone you should sacrifice a little bit. Like let's say you like staying in and hanging out at home, but your mom, who you haven't seen in a few weeks, wants to go out for lunch or go to a festival or something. Just go for a little bit!
This situation is a little different from mine because my mom is sociable and has friends (and my other siblings) that she can go to when I'm busy with school or work, but this mom doesn't seem to have anyone else. Just her son. I hope that he realizes that. He seems like a good kid and he seems to know what he's done wrong in the past, so I think it won't be too hard for him to open up a bit
Another thing that I can relate to, is that I'm more silly and talkative around my friends. I'm sometimes goofy and funny at home but my mom doesn't see it much so she's always like "You're always so grumpy and quiet, you should joke and sing and dance more" and I'm like "..... I do, you just don't see me when I do" 😂

They both don't have any malicious intent. The mum is lonely and needs affection, the son was depressed, going through puberty and became independent. They still care about it each other, it's a matter of how he expresses it now.

I really respect him for how he still talks to his mom. Mostly, unless he's aggravated, he respects her as someone whom he's indebted to and has just not learnt how to communicate and express his emotions to his mom. This, I could understand as well as I didn't learn how to share my problems to my parents and didn't. I didn't want them to constantly ask me if I'm ok, which sometimes I'm not but I don't want to burden them, so I avoid. I was much ruder to my dad and my mum so that they won't feel the need to understand me and leave me alone. How wrong was I, my parents tried to constantly understand me and reach out where I ran away.
I really thought my problems would just burden them. I'm lucky that I saw a counselor and things are so much better, but I know these two care for the other the most and want to be the best parent/child they think they can be. Good luck guys, your pure hearts will pave the way for a better relationship.

Yeah, I'm introverted, too, but to me, introverted doesn't necessarily denote only shyness and aloofness like they imply.
