Love it. Such solid points, Gary. I'm really glad you shared this. I listened to a negative person that kind of threw me off my game for a bit. And then I realized that I didn't think I had to create to someone else's standards. Maybe I could just do what I wanted to do and work towards making the work better from that POV.
    Thanks for this post!

Well said! There’s a time and place for criticism and it needs to be done in the right way. Thanks for sharing your experience

"I listened to a negative person that kind of threw me off my game for a bit." What I've often found is...often that is EXACTLY their intent. It's not to offer helpful criticism, it's not to express an honest opinion, it's to make you feel like crap, because that's what makes them feel better.

I've seen groups of photographers (both online and offline) that are very supportive of each other and it's a wonderful thing. It's a shame some people find the need to bring others down, like you said.

I just saw Joker 2 and it's a brilliant movie. It's as good as the original. Don't rely on reviews or people's comments. The point being you don't need validation, just have fun and enjoy your photography... ignore them all.

I think you've touched on an interesting point? If creators (photographers, film makers, artists) put our work out there for people to have a paid experience (i.e. we've paid to see a movie, or paid to enter an art exhibition), does that give us the right as consumers to criticise the work?
As an analogy, I wouldn't criticise how someone wants to make a coffee to enjoy themselves, but if I paid for a coffee then I'm within my rights to say if I don't like it.
      What do you think?

Anyone can say whatever they like. It's their right. You should not let it affect you.
