That tells you that if the Note 9 could run 1300p like the XS, it would beat it again. XS also can't run video higher than 1080p, so that's another handicap against the Note that is not being communicated. The Note 9 is clearly more well optimized.

I have a few recommendations regarding your drain test: 1. The brightness scale is not the same for all phones, therefore I would recommend using a luxmeter (it doesn't have to be the best if you set the settings with the same calibration). 2. Same goes for sound, you could use a decibel meter. 3. I would like to see a second test, where all phones do only one task (like streaming video, making calls or play music), just to get better comparison between the phones.
Let me point out something here. You should had set the Note 9 at FHD+ cause that's so much more battery efficient than the QHD+. By setting it to QHD+ you aren't testing the battery lifes of each phone but rather their optimisations. In my opinion, you should test phones as a package, testing their real potential, rather than what you did here. That's what i would consider as fair. Awesome video anyways as always!
Tech Chap said the sony is above the average when he carried out his typical battery drain test. But here, it's upside down. Battery drain depends on what apps reviewer takes to drain the battery 🔋 But I don't trust reviewers at all, when I bought Xz2, I watched some videos on battery drain test and they all said that iPhone X has a better battery life. But my friends having iPhone X couldn't keep their battery above 50% when I have about 60-65% battery in the middle of the day. What a joke

Wow the optimization on iOS 12 is really effecting the battery life, for it to have the smallest battery size on this test and winning it, it's pretty amazing
He also forgot the fact that the XZ3's display is around 600 nits in manual 100% brightness (unless Adaptive Brightness is turned on, which also affects the battery life as the proximity sensor is being used the whole time).

This is what I don’t get about people emphasising 1440p displays: The difference is so minimal that you’d need a side-by-side comparison and look really closely to see any noticeable differences, but in return for that minor upgrade, you get significantly worse battery life
I'm on 21 hours with 66% battery life left.. I didn't turn on battery saver but I will on my next charge to see how well it does. I'm using the note 9 512gb... phones real bad ass.
What firmware version was used for the test? My Xperia XZ3 has received an update to 52.0.A.3.27. After that the battery life has really improved. I've tested it with the Pc Mark battery benchmark and the new firmware gives more than 1 hour extended battery life compared with the previous firmware version.
The 120hz display and the Chroma effect on the back logo will likely play effect in the results... Unless it can be lowered to 60hz and the Razer logo turned off
Setting all the phones the same brightness percentage doesn't mean a thing. I would suggest getting a proper colorimeter like a Spyder5 to get accurate brightness levels.

I don’t know what’s the hype with the pixel 3 xl is all about. The note 9 is $100 more has 50% more ram a bigger battery and stylus with no notch and smaller chin. It’s display is also a bit better in my opinion and it has expendable storage with a standard 128gb vs 64gb. People keep comparing it to iPhones instead of comparing it to other androids. The s9+ is much better. Optimization on android is overrated. On iPhone it’s different apple makes their own chips. But google just offers a little bit better software. I would like to see what this would be with the note 9 on 9.0

The test isn't quite a big deal. The xs can't run 1080p and it does around 1000. The first of the 2 minutes where he swipes up on the iPhone just look at the brightness, around 80-90% yet not 100. Also look at the notifications on Xperia as it hits 15%. Something missing? Yes. The stamina mode and also let's not forget the trilumionous screen and the bravia tech on the Sony. Of course it drains

That’s a pretty fair test, it’s impossible to get all phones to be exactly on the same settings otherwise if all phone manufacturers made the exactly same specs, people would rather just buy one phone. That was the best test for the means he had to work with for those phones.
One of them is pushing far less pixels (do the maths, 4262400 or 4147200 vs 3338496) than the others. That's a lot of computing power to do when playing games.
IOS doesn't run nearly as many processes on background as android does So not a fair comparison in the first place However for almost 1000 less Mah battery, XS Max did really well
The Reason why battery is draining because xz3 display is set at super vivid mode and above and with quad display it consumes more battery as it owns best oled battery in the world and xz3 pixel density is high and brighter also I don't believe in this speed test not at all
in phonebuff's test, Note 9 lasted 2.3 hours longer than iphone max, of course it was on default resolution, but i don't think resolution can make such a massive difference it has to be something else, i assume it was the processor that made the difference.

Not really. It's more like measuring the distance you can expect to travel. More isn't guaranteed to get you further, but there's going to be some strong correlation.
I just got a Pixel 3 XL coming from an iPhone X. Not the Max. Just a regular X. And I can already feel the difference in battery effeciency between the 2. The iPhone has much better battery management over the Pixel. This video still proves with even the Max has a smaller battery that apple chips are much more efficient.
It's biased as it doesn't show a representation of how the phone would run on auto brightness, These screens are all different and turning the brightness all the way up would make the bigger screens with higher brightness drain much faster.....

Not all those things are even active 100% of the time.. Even when they are, they don't even draw a lot of power. With almost 1000 mAh more battery, the Note 9 should still be able to beat the iPhone at 1440p resolution. Samsung just has horrible optimization, that's why it lost.

You really think the heart beat sensor, fingerprint sensor, and s pen are on 100% of the time? There's such a thing known as hibernation. Those aren't even big factors either. If you want to name factors, I can bring up 3D touch, which affects the whole screen, not some little spot on the back of the phone, taptic feedback, true tone, etc. If you think the Note 9 draining 900 more mAh battery faster than the iphone is good optimization than you're crazy. Nothing sounds more like an excuse than claiming the fingerprint reader, s pen, and heart beat sensor are contributing in the Note 9's lost.

If what you are saying is true, the iPhone should have won the 1080p test as well considering that the Note is still powering the same hardware, well the only thing iPhone had to push was 300p extra pixels. 300p in pixels is not going to be more costly on energy then 2 gigs of RAM, and all of the sensors that I just named. Yet it still failed. It still lost by 37%. Now even with the Note running more resolution, the same increases and hardware and the Note also running a SIM card that the other devices are not running, and the iPhone still could only manage to equal that. That's not impressive to me. It had every hardware advantage as far as energy cost, yet it still failed a convincing lead even with that advantage. Devices have larger batteries because the hardware takes more energy. Manufacturers don't just spend that money for no reason. Which this test just proved. If that were the case, I'm sure the iPhone could do what it does with 2,000 milliamp hours considering how efficient it is correct?
The Note 9 for life hopefully for me, it is my favorite phone still and some upgrades in some newer phones are not worth the price I think. I actually use the spen for art sometimes and some games are good with it including a ds emulator ahaha. I also put the remote setting on sometimes which can help in a car.

Big Smoke It wouldn’t. Since you can’t change the resolution on the iPhone, it would end up with higher value, compared to, let’s say, Note’s 1080p (43% higher pixel count, to be exact). Unless you could change the resolution of those Android phones to match exactly iPhone’s, it’s actually fairer to run them at the highest possible res as that’s what iPhones does. Saying that, putting 1440p (or even iPhone’s 1242p) display on the 6 inch screen is absolutely pointless. It’s nothing but number flexing.

I have a few recommendations regarding your drain test:
1. The brightness scale is not the same for all phones, therefore I would recommend using a luxmeter (it doesn't have to be the best if you set the settings with the same calibration).
2. Same goes for sound, you could use a decibel meter.
3. I would like to see a second test, where all phones do only one task (like streaming video, making calls or play music), just to get better comparison between the phones.

Let me point out something here. You should had set the Note 9 at FHD+ cause that's so much more battery efficient than the QHD+. By setting it to QHD+ you aren't testing the battery lifes of each phone but rather their optimisations. In my opinion, you should test phones as a package, testing their real potential, rather than what you did here. That's what i would consider as fair. Awesome video anyways as always!

What firmware version was used for the test? My Xperia XZ3 has received an update to 52.0.A.3.27.
After that the battery life has really improved. I've tested it with the Pc Mark battery benchmark and the new firmware gives more than 1 hour extended battery life compared with the previous firmware version.

I don’t know what’s the hype with the pixel 3 xl is all about. The note 9 is $100 more has 50% more ram a bigger battery and stylus with no notch and smaller chin. It’s display is also a bit better in my opinion and it has expendable storage with a standard 128gb vs 64gb. People keep comparing it to iPhones instead of comparing it to other androids. The test isn't quite a big deal. The xs can't run 1080p and it does around 1000. The first of the 2 minutes where he swipes up on the iPhone just look at the brightness, around 80-90% yet not 100. Also look at the notifications on Xperia as it hits 15%. Something missing? Yes. The stamina mode and also let's not forget the trilumionous screen and the bravia tech on the Sony. Of course it drains

That’s a pretty fair test, it’s impossible to get all phones to be exactly on the same settings otherwise if all phone manufacturers made the exactly same specs, people would rather just buy one phone. That was the best test for the means he had to work with for those phones.

I just got a Pixel 3 XL coming from an iPhone X. Not the Max. Just a regular X. And I can already feel the difference in battery effeciency between the 2. The iPhone has much better battery management over the Pixel.
This video still proves with even the Max has a smaller battery that apple chips are much more efficient.

You really think the heart beat sensor, fingerprint sensor, and s pen are on 100% of the time? There's such a thing known as hibernation. Those aren't even big factors either. If you want to name factors, I can bring up 3D touch, which affects the whole screen, not some little spot on the back of the phone, taptic feedback, true tone, etc. If you think the Note 9 draining 900 more mAh battery faster than the iphone is good optimization than you're crazy. Nothing sounds more like an excuse than claiming the fingerprint reader, s pen, and heart beat sensor are contributing in the Note 9's lost.

If what you are saying is true, the iPhone should have won the 1080p test as well considering that the Note is still powering the same hardware, well the only thing iPhone had to push was 300p extra pixels. 300p in pixels is not going to be more costly on energy then 2 gigs of RAM, and all of the sensors that I just named.
Yet it still failed. It still lost by 37%. Now even with the Note running more resolution, the same increases and hardware and the Note also running a SIM card that the other devices are not running, and the iPhone still could only manage to equal that. That's not impressive to me.
It had every hardware advantage as far as energy cost, yet it still failed a convincing lead even with that advantage.
Devices have larger batteries because the hardware takes more energy. Manufacturers don't just spend that money for no reason. Which this test just proved. If that were the case, I'm sure the iPhone could do what it does with 2,000 milliamp hours considering how efficient it is correct?

The Note 9 for life hopefully for me, it is my favorite phone still and some upgrades in some newer phones are not worth the price I think. I actually use the spen for art sometimes and some games are good with it including a ds emulator ahaha. I also put the remote setting on sometimes which can help in a car.

Big Smoke It wouldn’t. Since you can’t change the resolution on the iPhone, it would end up with higher value, compared to, let’s say, Note’s 1080p (43% higher pixel count, to be exact). Unless you could change the resolution of those Android phones to match exactly iPhone’s, it’s actually fairer to run them at the highest possible res as that’s what iPhones does. Saying that, putting 1440p (or even iPhone’s 1242p) display on the 6 inch screen is absolutely pointless. It’s nothing but number flexing.

I got rid of iPhone was trash, totally regretted getting it, the camera was very grainy and I moved from a Samsung and believe it or not iPhone was much slower!! Glad I returned it and got the note 9, now that phone is a beast!
