- Come along for the ride as I get to race one of the best super touring cars of all time. the 1999 British Touring Car Championship winning Nissan Primera at super touring power at brands hatch.
Also a full walk around the car in detail.
Huge thank you to Motorsport Classic Media for some footage and help filming this video.
Happy memories of Toca on the PS1
I was always a Laguna boy. 😊
@@leccybadger absolutely!
@@samuelgarrod8327 same lol loved the look of the laguna and the sound but primera was just as good also it was nice to see some of the toca cars in grand turismo 1
Toca was awesome game❤
I built these engines for Anthony Reids car when at AER all those years ago. What an engine 💪
Always loved that era of BTCC. Primeras,Accords,etc.etc. Thanks for sharing,Jake!
1990's BTCC cars were truly special. They looked like extremely lowered versions of their road going variants. The cars that came later weren't as interesting! My fav cars of the era were the Audi A4 and Renault Laguna. Was lucky enough to see an ex works Renault Laguna BTCC car at Mosport in Ontario Canada in the early 2000's that had been purchased by a local collector. It was impeccably prepared. Even the interior carbon door skins were done beautifully. Believe the car was prepared by Williams and you can tell it was a no expense spared development! Awesome upload by the way!
That car at the time was the most expensive BTCC car made and an absolute spaceship compared to the rest of the grid..................then Ford and prodrive turned up with a 2 million pound Mondeo.
The sound immediately bringing back memories of playing Toca Touring Cars 2 on PS1. Bloody lovely!
Great video Jake. It's like my childhood coming back watching the Primera out front winning. Congratulations on the wins and shame about day 2. Keep up the great work hopefully you win the BTCC title
that is one good-looking, well-built racecar and what an outstanding crew behind it. great wins out there Jake!
Thanks 👍
the nissan primera gt underrated car i owned one a great handling car strut braced as standard and classic p6000 tyres, i had a straight through exhaust no boxes it was loud and sounded just as good as the supertourer. also a solid engine sr20de
Wow that on onboard lap! What a car!
I wish modern race series organisers would take note of what makes these 'classic' events so popular and restructure some of their regulations accordingly.
I went to see a '97 btcc round at Croft when I was a kid and was beside myself with excitement for a week beforehand. Nowadays I only live 45mins from Silverstone and have never wanted to go to a btcc round, except I got my ticket to the Silverstone Festival again this year just because of the touring cars!
Great memories of that era, yes I’m old!
Was great to catch up with yourself and Simon on that weekend - always a pleasure to see you sending these beauties around a track too.
2 Litre Super Touring was the best ever, super competitive and with loads of Factory Teams involved. It ended up way too expensive, the last year of Supertouring was crazy, an example was Ford. The 2 Factory Ford Mondeos cost over 1 million Pounds each.
Great Video 💥💥💥
great video, thanks for sharing the behind the scenes. Love the super touring content mate. Cheers
Good to see some footage of the Saturday, me and my dad have been fans of the super tourers and touring cars for years, so been loving your content on them as of recently. Wanted to go to super touring power 2023 as it looked like it was going to be a great event with no real plans if it was going to be held again in the future, but we ended up not being able to make it. Roll on last weekend, I got him tickets for the Sunday for a fathers day present. Tried to stay off of social media as I wanted to take it all in on the day with no spoilers. Ended up being abit disappointed with the supertourers as not many were running at all. Shame really as none of it could be helped and was just shite luck. The e36 and nissan incident is just a shame, but thats racing after all, hopefully it hasn't jeopardised anything in the future and a completely understandable response to not risk anything further on Sunday. But thanks for showing your face in the pitlane on Sunday, I did point you out to Dad who was none the wiser! We both loved the Mini Racing and the mustang battle, all made for great racing, just a shame it felt like the main event fell short of the mark. The Fact they were also giving out tamiya models with every podium was a classy touch too, I think everyone still had a good day out, the racing all day was ace to watch. Looking forward to hopefully next year, we'll probably go on the Saturday that time! What happened to the Dc5 for Sunday? Cheers Jake 🍻 top work 👏 👍
I love that we can see how much fun you were having racing steve in race 1. Great video and great driving!
Loved seeing you and the other 2 run on the Saturday. The sounds was amazing brings back great memories of being 15 at croft. ❤
We were there all weekend, we got to meet you briefly to and have a quick nose around the skyline which was cool. I was the one that suggested we need a classic group A Japanese touring car class!
I do feel it would have been a disappointment for anyone that just came for sunday, as the lack of cars were quite apparent. 17 cars lined up for quali on Saturday, and only 4 crossed the line in the final race on sunday!! Under no illusion that these cars are very expensive to keep running, i guess which is why there were another 5 plus cars that were on display only.
Great video, every time I watch videos from the BTCC era I think: are there better looking racing cars today? I think not.
I think they should have a guest race on the touring car calendar.
Thanks for these videos its great to get such an up-close look at these cars and to see them looking so good. The second meeting at Donington 1999 was the first event I attended as a kid.
My all time favourite Super Tourer!
Great vlog jake! .... Many years ago I had the facelift primera. I Would have loved the livery of the time on it. But in the NPOC ( nissan primera owners club) there was a road going with this livery on. Not sure if it still exists.
I was sitting right beside the crash at druids when it happened it nearly made me cry.
@@David-uq4ns I couldn’t believe what I was seeing in my mirror also
As always Jake... Another cracking video. Primera looks epic. I've always wanted to drive around and visit Brands Hatch. Living in North Wales Oulton Park is my local circuit which I have driven my old Alfa Romeo 156 on in 2009 and done a supercar experience in 2021. But Brands is a circuit I would love to try. One day.. May see you there fella. 😎👍
This is the best video i've watched for ages. Brings back some very happy memories. Try and get your hands on a 1994 Alfa 155 ;-)
Crazy awesome true touring car. Fantastic
So cool to see Jake, well done putting her on pole🎉
This was "my" era of BTCC growing up, when I discovered the series as a kid. I also think that the stance of these cars inspired the Max Power generation at least as much as any influence from Japanese tuning ever did. Freaky that this car won the title *25 years ago* though!
me being a huge BTCC fan from them days . thruxton is deffo the best track . seeing these go round church
Awesome jake, what a beast 😁👍
Love these videos, thank you for showing us these cars up close! Would love to see you have a go in the Volvo S40 so you can show us around that too!
And this is why slammed cars look so cool
Beautiful !
Loving this channel !, such a sad outcome for such iconic cars
It's better to race them and have incidents than for them to sit in a shed or museum.
@@torquecars2338 thank you 🙏🏻 I agree. Such a shame
Anyone else remember Nissan's tv ad at the end of this season? "Sorry sponsors, we were so quick your logos were barely visible"
Jake also I would like to add, it would be amazing to see you in GT's, I think you would smash it such a quick and talented driver always fun to watch : ). If you get the chance to drive the primera again you must put a box of tissues on the back window shelf and video it , the primera was a common car to use a taxi back in the day lol
Great to see you race on Saturday! Such a shame about the crash and that you couldn't race on Sunday.
造り込みが非常に綺麗ですね。
5と6がめっちゃ近いですね。
Has to be said Jake, loving this kind of content. The mechanic at age 22 working on a Super Tourer must be fun job too
I love the Nissan Primera it related to the Nissan Almera series if I am thinking this correctly
This is the content I need to be seeing. Went to dono earlier in the year to see some super tourers, only for them all to either break or crash the day before 🤦
Trying to bring as much cool content as I can! We all love the super tourers
Looks really easy to drive, it probably isn't but testament to the car and how it's put together
You know what it actually is. The steering is very strong ( lots of feedback ) but the chassis is just an absolute joy. Pure heaven to drive
@@jakehillracing well you look super comfortable = quick . Great video thanks 👍
Did they leave the Indy circuit 6th gear in by mistake? Banging that limiter at the bottom of the hill. Awesome to see my era of btcc going wheel to wheel still!
You and the Primera made it look so easy. Mr Soper can’t help but push hard, shame he pushed a bit too hard into your team mate.
It looks so fast on the lap
I think the electronic control unit is not more the original, at that time, the blip of the throttle was by pilot "foot" and in this car is evident it is related to the touch of the gear knob, saw this in the other super tourer driven in this channes (peugeot 406) in that car, you can see clearly the presence of the load cell in the gear knob and modern Dash (motec), I work in racing car electronics here il Italy, and I know how hard is to mantain working those original ECUs and many times, after a motor refresh, is needed a new ECU. For me, Those cars are the pinnacle of motorsport on saloon cars.
I have a bit of an undertray off one of these, Leslies car I think.
How does it compare to modern btcc car? I would really like to hear your impressions in terms of engine power, braking, handling, and overall how it compares to a modern btcc car. Thanks
so then , a great day for you and a not so great day for matt
nonetheless still an awesome weekend
ROLL ON FOS
Go jakey boy hope everyone is ok 👍🏽
Love the retro sweater, where can i grab one? 😍
A shame soper was driving like verstappen on Saturday.
Any update on the Primera involved in the crash Jake? Write off or fixable? Hopefully not write off ,the Primera chassis have been faithful runners over here for many years
🔥🔥
What a motor, what lap times are they doing compared to btcc 2024 on that track?
Good question!! So…..
BTCC pole times
2024 47.9
1999 / 2023 49.9
So actually pretty close. Plus this year we were on Michelins so if I had the chance I recon 48.5 in the Primera
@@jakehillracing very close then given all those years of technology
2024?
Just watched the crash footage, Soper still driving the same.
Hey Guys what are the specs of this super Touring machine?
These cars was a menacer..no matter the weight they were given
Any videos of the crash?
How do you find it compares to your modern BTCC car?
I was at the top of the hill when the BMW and Nissan came together! So sad!!!
💯🔥😍😍😍
What could BTCC get back from these cars to improve the spectacle? Weight is first thing that springs to mind, not to mention a normally aspirated engine although I know that won’t happen!
Super tourers just seem to dance that much more on the limit
@@SprowstonRipper hard to say. I mean in an ideal world you would go back to what we had but the budget isn’t there, nor is the manufactures and the world is in a different place now. But I do believe electric isn’t the way to go and synthetic fuel is. That way we can keep the noise and the things we love about it all.
@@jakehillracing how would current btcc cars be on skinnier tyres?
Im guessing not as nice to drive but maybe might make them a bit more lairy in the corners?
Whats you favourite touring car you have driven.
These cars are an absolute work of art. The fabrication of it all
@@Manic-172 these are very pure, very light, nimble and lovely to drive, however for me the Group A era is my favourite, R32 GTR’s, RS500, E30 M3 etc
@jakehillracing
If you like fabrication. Have a watch of this bloke he is building a r32 race car based on the Australian version. But he is fabricating every thing. th-cam.com/video/u4kyp3Zr3Rk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=aGVNpfN7x8R_-xv3
They put millions into developing these cars.
Those rear brake discs look a lot like brake discs from a motorcycle.
It's bonkers to me that it's under a thousand kg. 😮
F u think about it these cars were doing stance and slammed way back then but only diff was its a fill on race car so it has function and form u can't beat the look of these touring cars man
6th gear was really short
Make sure you put enough fuel in it next time 😅 wink wink .
There's no way they could have put all the blame on the primera driver for that crash, went into druid ahead, came out with a half car overlap still and Soper just drove like he wasn't there
Could have used the extra space and the kerb but still, he doesn't have to
It’s a shame all the blame was put on Richard as for sure it wasn’t his fault. Just a shame, both lost beautiful cars
Do you need to blip on downshift or is there an autoblipper?
This car or the bmw?
For me, this. Although my BMW is still great just very different
@@jakehillracing both sound amazing.
How does the Nissan compare to your bad ass BMW BTCC?
Very different cars. But ultimately these cars from the “ super touring “ era you can’t beat. They had 10m £ in 99’ they are a dream to drive and over 400kg lighter then current cars
@@jakehillracing thanks Jack
