    Someone should build a time machine so we can loop this entire decade or so we could all pick up and move to an all 80's parallel dimension.

      I’ll be 50 (!!!) in six months and nothing takes me back in such a “right there” flush than a commercial I’ve not seen in YEARS. I was glued to tv on Saturday mornings in the 80s. I was 13 in 87 but watched Pee Wees Playhouse with my then 4 year old brother and 10 year old sister. It’s like, “oh God, that frigging song was in my head all day in school”. 😅

    The late 1980's was such an iconic time, and I think many of us knew it. The clothing fashions, the neon colors, the hair styles - it all seemed fresh, exciting, and new at the time. The general carefree attitude of the decade is captured pretty accurately in these commercials. The 1980's is one of those decades those of us who were alive at that time and remember its iconic charm. Not every decade has its own flair like the 80's did. For instance, you can't look back at 2000-2010 and think of anything terribly iconic, and I don't think anybody ever will. It was an unforeseen privilege having grown up in the 70's and 80's. Wonderful decade to be alive.

    • @erin8205
      @erin8205 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      All the commercials have a cheerful, optimistic tone. See also Glass Tiger’s 1986 video (USA version) Don’t Forget Me When I’m Gone. Very fast and abundant with whimsy and imagination. Hope. Like, “this is new and welcome to a new modern, only getting better”. I was 13 in 87 and it was a strikingly different era. I’ve been teaching since 01 and I fear for my students, born in the aughts and later. Glued to screens. 😢 They’ll be middle aged mid century 🌍🔥and there is so much anxiety. We WERE indeed very lucky. 🍀

      It is depressing to an extent. More because we were fairly innocent kids who naively enjoyed what we were seeing in the TV. The reality was it was just cheap brainwashing from an early age. I used to love the M.A.S.K. action figures and vehicles. Definitely my favorite toys back then, they all came with their own helmet and the vehicles all did different things, like the truck opened up had these things that popped out. So awesome.
    I'll never forget the sad day though. When I took them along with me on this family trip, stayed at hotels and I passed time playing with them. But I got home and tore through everything looking for them. Gone. Somehow left behind who knows where. That feeling was like, the opposite of Christmas morning. By this time they were harder to find too. I mean the show was only on 2 season's and barely even.

    • @wesrm1
      @wesrm1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's true! So much is stored away in our memories and it can't be accessed until something triggers it. As soon as I saw these commercials, I remembered all of them but I could not have just decided to go into my memory archives and browse and pull up old memories. I wish I could! Maybe neuroscience will one day figure out a way to make that happen.

    There was a commercial when I was a little kid... Probably around 1980 -82, it was a Levi's jeans commercial where a kid about my age was going through his day wearing these super tough jeans.... I remember the kid had a wooden sword he was playing with... He reminded me of me because he was alone. I lived in a rural area and didn't have anyone to play with. There was a song to it that went something like Levi's hard washed jeans for little men like you, tough but soft cause you've got your soft side too... I have searched for that commercial and so help me, I can't find it. Maybe I dreamed up my own commercial.

    I think that’s Billy Jayne in the Macca’s commercial. I always got him and that McDreamy guy confused...but I had crushes on both😂💗 I’m dying at that Monster Mash game😂-now it would be millennials taking him to the QuietRoom talk out his feels, and monster sensitivity training for all those kids🤦🏼‍♀️😂 When did people become butthurt all the time over nothing???

      You would actually need to be born around '73 to have vivid memories of the 80's due to what's known as childhood amnesia.
