always good to hear good old british songs as old as this, this song is 43 years old from 1979 to 2022, i remember when this was in record shops so i bought it in 7 inch record,
this song is my awakening in music, played in the GDR from a woman in my kindergarden that i was crying for days since my parents sticking me into it.... i was crying again today... but not for sadness :D
Memories of the late 70's discos and fun fares with the roller boots on the girls and us boys on our skateboards or choppers.. Long hot summers and yes that was here in the UK. Quality song thats still got a great beat to it now all these years on. 70'S and 80's music rules .
I didn't hear this song for roundabout ten years. While having a walk in the park with my dad today, he started singing this and I felt like being a child again for a moment.
35 years after I first heard this, I came back to Google, Nick Straker Band, 'A Walk in the Park'. Why this was never a hit, when it managed to burn its way into my memory for that length of a time having first heard it as an 11 year old schoolboy, is a mystery to me. Along with Landscape's 'Einstein A Go Go' and Tenpole Tudor's 'Swords of a 1000 men' they were a couple of other songs I heard and never forgot from my coach tuned to Radio 1 on the way to and from school.
A walk in the park. I've got to get some sense Back into my head. I`m in the dark. And I can`t see Where I`m being led. I`d give the world To set the clock back And act like a man. Where can I turn To save myself from this confusion. A walk in the park, a step in the dark. A walk in the park, a trip in the dark. I`m getting away, escaping today. A walk in the park. Away from all The busy streets of my mind. I seek a straighter path. I seek a shady clay in which to unwind. But why do we go on. In spite of mistakes. In spite of destruction. Life can be fun Depending on the situation. A walk in the park, a step in the dark. A walk in the park, a trip in the dark. I`m getting away, escaping today. A walk in the park, a step in the dark. A walk in the park. [Repeat] I`m getting away. A walk in the park. [Repeat] I`m getting away. from Nicholas Charles Bailey
Ausgezeichnetes Lied, gute Stimme, feiner Rythmus, dezenter Bass und ein halbwegs sinnvoller Text, mehr braucht ein guter Song nicht. Fazit: Sehr empfehlenswert !
As someone else mentioned, mostly the single or the inferior 80’s remixes on Spotify. Finally, someone posts the original 79 extended version. Cheers 🥂❤️
I was just serving in the German Bundeswehr at that time. Everytime when I listen to this song, I still see the grinning mugs of corporals and sergeants in the garrisons pub.
Reminds me of the endless parties during the year I graduated from High School. Most of the time I didn't even know whether I was stoned or drunk... Or both. XD
A wonderful preview of the English romantic movement (Duran Duran, Pete Shelley, Thompson Twins, Heaven 17, etc.) who along with Prince would dominate early-80s post-disco.
This was a hit in Europe in 79. In March 1980 BBC Radio 1 put it on their rotation playlist, three times a day, but it failed to chart significantly. The UK's loss...
Tuesday 12th November 2002 I was listening to this song on the Brig VS repeater frequency of DRS3 (now SRF3) and the Inter Regio train that I was riding at the time, was pulling into Siders / Sierre, about the end of the song. The train's next-stop announcement was in German, not in French. It was crossing the Röstigraben heading west to Sion / Setten and further to Geneva. When the train left Siders / Sierre, DRS3 played "Häbs güet" by Plüsch just afterwards.

Einfach immer wieder geil
I like this song, memories of my childhood
A walk in the park.
I've got to get some sense
Back into my head.
I`m in the dark.
And I can`t see
Where I`m being led.
I`d give the world
To set the clock back
And act like a man.
Where can I turn
To save myself from this confusion.

A walk in the park, a trip in the dark.
I`m getting away, escaping today.
A walk in the park.
Away from all
The busy streets of my mind.
I seek a straighter path.
I seek a shady clay in which to unwind.
But why do we go on.
In spite of mistakes.
In spite of destruction.
Life can be fun
Depending on the situation.
A walk in the park, a step in the dark.
A walk in the park, a trip in the dark.
I`m getting away, escaping today.
A walk in the park, a step in the dark.
A walk in the park. [Repeat]
I`m getting away.
A walk in the park. [Repeat]
I`m getting away.
