IN THIS TIME and even to a older time period the country's old refineries needs to maintained to have at least some enery sources supplied. So the latter expense happens to a much longer time and budget period. Moreover the new refinery is a private investment with private credits. I hear you people shouting here that if the FG would not have done enough in maintaining the old refineries and let them rotten with a logical energy shortage on the market. I'm afraid you shouldn't expect much. The government is planning on removing fuel subsidies which while good will drastically increase the price of oil. The dangote refinery is part of FG's effort to more or less maintain the current price.
There is really no normal price.....The price of PMS, kerosine, and AGO across the world is determined by the price of crude, the price of crude fluctuates between 60-120 USD dollars. On a normal level, we should be paying a lot more than what we are currently paying. Before the refinery, we use dollars to buy these products abroad, ship them into the country and then pay other landing fees. The only difference I see is Dangote refinery will take away the cost of shipping, landing fees and the need to be buying dollars to pay for these things abroad. However, he is also a businessman, so we have to wait and see how much he will sell his products. unless nnpc will be giving him the crude at a discounted rate, i don't see any fall in price.

He said at that session that he's ready to turn the NNPC into a private enterprise where he doesn't mind private investors can own 60% and Nigeria can own 40% of the new NNPC if that's what would make it super efficient to make thunderous revenues like Saudi Aramco while creating millions of jobs for his people and impacting foreign investment in other areas of the economy.
