What's it like to live in a tiny home that's not so tiny? This week we explore The Cutting, a project from designer Nick Lane and builder Aaron Shields, who came together to shift the idea of living within your means and to show that living smaller - actually allows for better interaction with each other and with nature. The Cutting was designed and built in collaboration between Small and Ample co. Since the completion of this project Aaron has started a new business specialising in the design and manufacture of bespoke transportable spaces.

Wonderful. Very pleased to see a home better suited to Australia’s climate with shade from the roof and which isn’t stupidly coloured black on the outside.
Awesome creation and loved what you did with utilizing the space well. This is what needs to be done all over the retail world instead of building mansions. Keep it simple. Thank you sharing this creation of yours.

what don't i love about this home!!! OMG it is beautiful and so calming. The dish rack idea and the hide away in the kitchen are both brilliant ideas. What is also so impressive is the high ceiling as it gives the home a bigger feeling. LOVE all colors warm and natural

Lucy and Johno. Absolutely love this! Seen elsewhere... So clever and beautifully designed. Eco, sustainable and full of character. Off grid. Without doubt for a single person or couple, proves that living in a compact, eco way is very possible. Literally from the practical entrance using old concrete blocks from a farm sets the tone. I would move in in a heartbeat! Thank You for sharing.

I love this, it's really beautiful and like you said, cocoon like and that follows throughout the house. Love the ventilation points too and the doors. The views are so beautiful. Love the light in this place. The colors are really rich and I love that sliding door for the bathroom and the kitchen. I don't think I've seen a small house like this that is this beautiful inside. While I don't care for the home-office setup, I absolutely love the design of this house. It's exactly what I would build for myself if the cost of building even a small house in Canada wasn't so squirrelly right now. I'd probably have to increase the exterior dimensions a little to allow for greater insulation, as our winters are quite cold and lengthy compared to what they are in Australia.

the quiet is awesome ! the dripping of dishes into sink in the quiet would drive me nuts ! and I HATE the little fridge! You need room to stock-up especially living out in the country who ever did that is dumb !
I am in love with this style and floorplan. The more I look, I see small things I'd change for a permanent home. This is perfect for a single. One, a tub, even one of those copper ones. A place for a washer dryer. I love the kitchen but would need a bigger refrigerator. Maybe a Smeg. And changing the door at the end of the room to French folding ones, to open the whole wall to the outside. Sadly, I won't get a chance to wonder. The contact information for Small seems to be down. How much is the starting price?

Did they move it? It used to be on a big, round concrete plinth in a flood plain.
Still my favorite. You didn't review the 2nd story wall panels that fold in/out allowing the roof to be raised.
Also, iirc, it was clad in wood, something like larch. I wonder why they changed?

Looks a bit taller than other tiny houses I've seen. Never seen any with a bedroom and en suite upstairs before.

Nice, but I can't understand why people buy these , and put them on huge blocks , who wants to live on acerage in a shoe box , you could build a huge shed for half the price ...

I love it so fucking much I've never loved anything more this is perfect I wish I had this house for myself and my cats how many square feet is this is a fucking beautiful the only thing I would change I think okay the glasses grade in the living area but I would like it better if I could close it off I don't know how I don't know how comfortable I am with having a glass window behind me as I'm sitting on the couch I think and and all that light might make it hot as hell in that house so might be beneficial like what they did with the bathroom door and the and the cabinet to Hidden cabinet they should do that with the glass that goes all the way around the living room you know I do love it though I love the whole house
So 36 square meters is 390 Square ft so you're telling me this place is less than 390 square feet I can't believe that it seems so much larger than it is
