  • In this travelmentary, trip report or review, I take the Thalys from Paris Gare du Nord to Brussels (Bruxelles-Midi) in the highest booking class called premium. But is it worth the money I paid?The train that was used on this trip is a Thalys PBA, so it's one of the older ones.
    Please note, that I only make these videos for fun and they're far from perfect. I'm not a full time TH-camr, I just film my own trips and that's it :).

      Hi, are you referring to the price of the ticket? Then I would agree, it was a rather expensive trip!

    horrible lounge and chaotic boarding (no priority!) but nice catering

      I think your comment sums up the boarding pretty well. Even besides the aspect of pure travel comfort such a process seems questionable from a safety perspective. The catering on the Thalys is good though. With regards to the lounge, I have to say that there aren’t too many good railway lounges, Eurostar’s offering at London St Pancras is an exception.
      Thank you for watching and your comment!

    Couple of thoughts: 1. The Thalys Lounge’s bizarre and inconvenient location reminds one of an outhouse. You know, like our ancestors used 200 years ago. 2. In the survey you cited regarding the many factors people identified as important for choosing a particular train, I was stunned not to see “dependability.” 3. How the hell does TH-cam know a viewer’s gender? Anyway, another excellent video and 12 minutes very well spent.

      Haha 🤣 , that lounge really was underwhelming. Yeah that study had some surprises, but a large portion of answers was merged into “other reasons”. I agree that dependability is super important and it is what train companies are struggling with the most. I think when you register on TH-cam you put a cross on the gender and that is probably what the analytics number is based on. I’m so happy that you enjoyed the video, because the footage I had was limited to the train station and the train, so I tried to enhance the video with some stats and animations. Thanks a lot for your feedback!

    Hi, great video as always! I never took a thalys but from this report I think it is way worse than Trenitalia's Frecciarossa executive class (which I think would be a fair comparison). Plus Trenitalia is cheaper for a similar length journey!

      And the main stations in Italy are awsome(Milano Centrale, Roma Termini, Bologna....)!

    • @travelmentaryTV
      @travelmentaryTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, I would also prefer the Frecciarossa. But on that route, it’s either the Thalys or the plane. I would still choose the Thalys then, because it’s quicker as you don’t need an airport transfer and there’s no check in and security which takes so much time at the airport. It’s also cheaper than a business class ticket on the plane. Thanks for watching! PS: Milano Centrale is among my favorite train stations in Italy 😀👍.

      @@travelmentaryTV yeah, I think that the fact that in Italy we have Italo and Trenitalia makes the tickets cheaper and the products better. I sincerely hope that the recent incident won't damage the market too much. I usually take Italo, because it's generally cheaper, expecially for first class tickets! From Milano to Roma the plane takes longer overall, it's more expensive and it's a worse travel experience as well!

      Yeah, the Italian system is a role model for the Europe and I think with the EU regulations on railway competition we will see more of that. The recent incident makes me very, very sad.

    Nice video! For me, a consistent and reliable product is important. They should simply deliver, what they advertise. Queues at a boarding process as shown in the video, are not attractive. Trains should not have a mandatory reservation. It's making the trip more burocratic. To take your car, no reservation is needed.

      Hi again :), yes a train service should be reliable and simple to use. With regards to reservation, I have mixed feelings. On the one hand flexibility is a good thing, but when you travel in a train where where people stand in the aisle and sit on the floor, I think one would prefer mandatory seat reservations. They should just provide more trains then.
